Review summary

My second cruise, and the first one (in the Norwegian Sky (twin sister of Norwegian Sun), and the expectations were not met. The first experience seemed boring, and the food wasn't anything to remember, but it was a different time and circumstances, so I was expecting more of a 7 day cruise, but no, same thing, nothing especial. The most remarkable thing of this trip, though, was the incredible and fantastic views of the Alaskan landscape. This really made this trip worthy. What an spectacle!!

Embarkation

4 out of 5
The embarkation process was easy and fast. We found a couple of issues due to visas and such, but nothing related to the cruise itself. The staff was prompt and nice. Very easy.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
The food, buffet food, always missing something, meats too dry, bland, none salt at all, or tons of pepper. Fresh ingredients (they looked great), but poor execution. The best food we found, in the general buffet was the indian food, daal, some panner, etc. and salads. The rest, nothing to brag about. In the open restaurants the same, good meat cuts, cool dishes, but same poor execution. I tried a NY Strip, very tender, and cooked well (medium well), but the sauce had a ton of pepper, as if this ingredient was the only condiment on board. Drinks were good. We had the Ultimate Drink Package, and it's really worthy. Good selection of beers, wined and spirits. Premium spirits not included, but it was very good, still.

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
What?? Maybe because of the media of the population on board was over 60, the activities were awful, except a couple of cool things, the rest were limited to karaoke, bingo, few shows, the disco was empty most of the time... pretty poor. Especially when you are 7 days in a ship.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
Some funny guys and a some groups of musicians and singers, and such, but kind of boring. The DJ killed every song he played, and the mood was lost. My group were alone at the disco, and we were able to request some songs, and still, we spend 15-30 minutes there.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Excellent, always attentive, helpful, great!!!

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
A clean old ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Very clean, always, comfortable enough.

Ship tip

Don't expect much of this old ship.

The beauty of Alaska can overcome some weaknesses of a ship, but not all.
