Review summary

Overall had a fantastic time and met new people to call friends! Nothing in life is perfect but although some negatives we wanted to stay on the ship and go north just to keep the rush going!

Embarkation

Easy if you are ready no issues!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
A lot of folks are critical that we were not on a super ship but sometimes smaller is better! The buffet food was good most time. If you do the sit down it's a much better quality but you have to go at their pace if that is what you want. Breakfast in bed if you enjoy cold food then go for it. Le Bistro and Cagneys were great!

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Not much to really do with a full schedule.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Overall not very good but they tried to keep you occupied if that is what you eanted

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Have island people service others in a Alaskan cruise is funny! They are dressed like eskimos and hiding so it up to you to get your own drink!

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
My biggest concern is when you go to the bathroom it sometimes swell like you are in a New York restroom as the smell is well you know! In the public areas the toilet bowls are black??? As for ship design simple and easy to get around.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Nice layout but not enough electric outlets near the bed to plug in my sleep apnea machine. Had to string a electrical extension cord across the room which meant that I could not charge my camera battery overnight. But I managed to make it work and room was very comfortable except for the bathroom smell.

Ship tip

Sit back and enjoy the rest of the trip as the views you get are wonderful. If you need to save get a inside room or window cabin as the balcony although very nice is rarely used as the ship is sailing because of the wind and temperature it just gets plain cold!

Ports of call

Seward (Anchorage), Alaska

Just a port we did not visit just boarded ship there.

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

Great little town!

Juneau, Alaska

Most disappointed by NCL! We dock at 7a, rush off the ship at 715a, and taken on our excursion! Then it's rush back to the ship to sail at 1230p Juneau is just of a name to the port as we never got to visit it! Sad planning, but I heard if you go northbound you spend a day there???

Cruise Sawyer Glacier

What beauty!

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
Another great town here are were able to visit the town and do an excursion! Mush dogs was great! But it was also here that we discovered that NCL didn't put all the excursions on line and upon boarding had others to choose by.... really NCL!!

Ketchikan, Alaska

4 out of 5
Busy city! Nice to have time to walk around after a crab boil.

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia

3 out of 5
Didn't understand why we travelled to Vancouver as it was only to drop us off and and it was the only place which requires a passport! Really which forced us to go through the 2 hour ICE Prescreen??? Geez Hey but we can say the we were there!

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
OMG what a nightmare.... okay getting off the ship was easy and picking up the luggage was also, but don't ever plan a flight and have to rely on a taxi! It took us over 1 1/2 hours to get a Cab to our hotel! Next time I'll order a car service for the trip as Uber is not legal yet in Vancouver

You may not have heard it but I am sure they told the passengers that because of the ship being registered outside of the US they must stop at a foreign port on route to satisfy US maritime laws. This dates back to the 1920"s. Another example of outdated laws still on the books. Google "Why Can't You Cruise From One U.S. Port to Another U.S. Port?"
