Nice Escape by JenniferH7

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

It was a nice break from our day-to-day life, but we took a different cruise line prior to this trip, and I'd rate that one superior. I enjoyed the entertainment and found the entertainers to be talented. The cruise director's staff was having a good time, which is always nice to see. The rooms were larger, clean, well-maintained and superior to the previous cruise line we've taken. The food wasn't great, and employees constantly forgot to bring us items we asked for (like drinks). The child center was mediocre and my son was yelled at. There weren't enough "free" dining options, and the specialty restaurants were expensive.

Beatuiful Alaskan Cruise by RobertH17

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We just got back from the inside passage cruise of Alaska and it was wonderful to say the least. The dining rooms and staterooms were beautiful and the service was top of the line. The ports of call should have all benn in Alaska but one was in Prince Rupert, Canada and was terrible, It was a dowtonw are with nothing to see or do. They should have had an extra day in Juneau or another Alaskan port. We should have checked our itenerary before we booked! Even with this the cruise was wonderful. Restaurants were never crowded and no more than a 5 minute wait for a table for two at any time. The specialty restaurtants had a cover charge that was totally out of line and the food was NOT good at all in those.

Did not meet expectations by MichaelS3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This was our 4th cruise in ten years. Two on NCL. We will not be cruising with NCL again. The meals were not up to expectation. Dinner was partly left overs from lunch in a different format. It was obvious and stale. For example, the cheese platter for desert was dried out cheeses served at lunch. The specialty resturants were not worth the extra money.

My first and last cruise by BernieS

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The ship was excellent for service, food, and choice of dining. The tour was not worth the money unless you like to play BINGO and figure out when your next meal will be. There was not enough going on during cruising hours to fill the time. No daytime dancing and very little daytime entertainment, except for some silly game show stuff. The time in port was even shorter if you choose an Alaskan excursion.

Well orchestrated cruise by TerriW58172428

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This was only my second cruise and I felt the quality of the service, food, and entertainment was excellent. Everyone was very professional. Most important, the staff all seemed to enjoy their jobs and were always pleasant. Unfortunately no one can control the weather, (it rained everyday)!

A Great Trip! by TamaraJ1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Our trip to Alaska was enhanced by the Norwegian Star. The ship was very nice, our staterooms were far better than any we have had on our last 3 cruises, and the entertainment and food were great.

Just OK cruise by IengL

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

On 8/23/08, room 8002, from Seattle to Alaska. We got 5 people in the room, they provide only 4 towels and we ask for 1 extra towel they could not give to us. One day, they fold used and wet towel for us to use for next day. No bath robe for ocean view, when we ask, they said we have to move to baconie or suite room.

our recent cruise by KurtW

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We liked the ship. It was clean and comfortable. We frequently ate in the cafeteria because it was the quickest and most convenient. Did not like the mandatory $10/person room fee added on.

Not what I exspected by Toddm11

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The personal were great. The ship was clean. Dining could become an advantage in itself. They need to change the ad line from "Freestyle" to Free for all style. You needed reservation to restaurants not on the "need reservation list". They only had ONE (1) buffet open. And not 24 hours as advertised. The only other "buffet" was on top of the ship and was never open "due to weather". Our last day was sunny and it still was not open. Too many marketing shows in the bars. (Selling Paintings or jewelery). To many closed off areas for "there" club members only. At one point I could not see a movie or go into half of the bars because they were fulled with appointment only shows or classes..

Norweigen Star Cruise to Juneau by Karlas

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

As a first time cruiser we enjoyed our time on the Norweigen Star to Juneau from Seattle. Great ship, staff, restraunts and activities going on all day long. All we had to do was pick what we wanted to do - Movies, Live theater shows, Lounge Acts, Spa, Fitness Center, walks on the deck, etc.

Beautiful scenic Alaska by SandyT

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Compared to other cruise ships, overall facilities were ok. Seating was very limited in the dining rooms that did not require an additional fee and sometimes we had to eat outside in the cold. Ships that service Alaska should accomodate guests with enough inside seating for meals as well as provide a covered pool area. We could not use the outside pool or whirlpools due to the cold and rain. The ship appeared clean and in good condition but we were not happy to find upon boarding that they had issues with a virus and sprayed us continually to avoid it spreading. It must be an issue with this cruise line or ship because we have sailed on 10 previous cruises and did experience this issue.

The best ever! by Coco11

Sail date: /
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The freestyle dining was such a wonderful feature of the cruise. We ate what we wanted, where we wanted, when we wanted. The cover charge to some of the gourmet restaurants was well worth it, even though the food at all the restaurants was exceptional. I would definitely suggest buying the spa pass. We spent lots of relaxing, memorable hours there, in relative quiet conditions. But above all, every single crew and staff member was so attentive. They were very interested in each person, and I've never been tended to so much. The people are the best part of the entire experience.

A superb cruise by SushmaG

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Norwegian Star to Alaska was indeed a superb cruise. I loved the gorgeous views/scenery, the off-shore excursions, quality of food, and the entertainment on the ship. The logistics, embarkation/disembarkation procedures were excellent - even got our bags checked on to the connecting flights and received the boarding passes. We got one bag at the BWI airport and the other was left behind on the ship. Yet the staff showed its efficiency, and when I got home, there was a message saying that the missing bag will be sent in 2-3 days. The entertainment on the ship was very good - music, magician and a comedian - nice mix of events. Regarding the off-shore excursions, I liked the lumberjack show at the Ketchikan. The duck boat tour of the city could be skipped, though. Juneau was the best - wish, we had more time. We took the helicopter to the glacier and that was just out of this world - expensive but worth it. Skagway was also beautiful and the White pass train was the highlight of that visit. Price Rupert was a bit disappointing, but it could be also because we were not sure of what excursion trip to take. On return, the ship probably takes the outside passage and the sea gets a bit rough. It tends to be a long travel, but the entertainment on the ship kept us busy. Little more could be done or a better stop - perhaps, Vancouver added instead of Prince Rupert. The food was excellent - good variety and quality. The specialty restaurants are very good - we could not, however, manage to get any reservations done at the Endless Summer restaurant. Bars are very good - great locations. great views, the Spinnacher lounge was my favorite place for the views and to relax with a book. In a nutshell, a great cruise, and I would strongly recommend it to all - old and young can indeed have a great time.

Cruise Practically Perfect in Every Way by PamO2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

I was with a party of eight, and we had a blast. We could take part in anything, but could also go off on our own, or just relax on the balcony and watch the ocean. The crew made us feel welcome and special. We felt like we had friends everywhere.
