Norwegian Star

7 Night Alaska & Sawyer Glacier (Seattle Roundtrip)

Sail date: September 06, 2008

Ship: Norwegian Star

Cabin type: Suite

Traveled as: Couple

Reviewed: 16 years ago

Review summary

The ship was excellent for service, food, and choice of dining. The tour was not worth the money unless you like to play BINGO and figure out when your next meal will be. There was not enough going on during cruising hours to fill the time. No daytime dancing and very little daytime entertainment, except for some silly game show stuff. The time in port was even shorter if you choose an Alaskan excursion.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Good choices on menus, good selection of restaurants to choose from, and no problems with seatings.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The ship had all the ammenities. The gym was very good, but overall, an Alaskan cruise also has weather issues, so outdoor facilities, though sufficient, were just not user friendly. The big shows were reasonably entertaining, but just not enough to get pass the full time.

If all you want to do is sit on a ship, this is a good one.

Took railway tour. The best part of my trip. 4 hours of splendid railroad history and lots of good scenery

Ketchikan, Alaska

One jewelry store after another, with tons of souvenier shops to fill out the rest of the town. Can walk whole town in less than2 hours, with a little sense of the frontier type town that it is. If you want jewelry, go to 46th st in NYC
Don't Miss: Salmon

Prince Rupert, British Columbia

Why did we stop here? Nothing to see off the ship. Saw some Mounties. Yahoo.
Don't Miss: Isn't one

Juneau, Alaska

Took whale tour for 3 hours. That was all the time basically we had before the ship sailed. Didn't look like much as far as I can tell. Hey look at it's total population. Who wants to be there?

Pros: the staterooms, service and food were generally excellent

Cons: Not enough time in ports, very little to do during long sailing hours, unless of course you play BINGO and drink
