A great vacation and anniversary cruise by JamesS14

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This was our first cruise, it was also our second anniversary. Wow and unbeliveable. We really didn't expect what the ship had to offer, great food, great service, great shopping deal, and alot of activities. Two thumbs up. A must to do thing in life.

NCL mexican Riviera by PatriceC

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends

Nice ship-crowded with kids-adults could not use the jacuzzi-getting charged to use the spa-extra charges on any alternatives to the main dining room-having to walk through the buffet to get to the pool

The layout of the Star was similar to the layout of the Jewel so I was able to find my way around relatively easily.

Decent, but lots of hidden costs by CharlesD3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

The cruise was good, but there was not a lot of things to do on the ship without paying large amounts of money. Anything that was worth doing or seeing on the boat was at night and clumped together. During the day all there was do do was drink, lose money at the casino, and play $60 a game bingo. Also, the ride back was very bumpy.

The ship was beautiful . by Porlando

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

Did not like free style dining. Free resturants were hard to get into and service was ok. The first impression in the dining room service was terrible. Paid resturants service was very good. Things that are free on other lines cost you here, so over all price is higher when you take that into consideration. I'm not sure that the employees are that happy with the jobs they do, at first not that friendly until close to end of cruise not sure if that is because of the tips.

Awesome Cruise! by MarkP1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

The Crew was Awesome, the Food was amazing. We hit every restaurant (I think?) over the seven days. The onboard entertainment & Shows was surprisingly very good! Their onboard Excursion group do a great job in showing what is available, signing you up for it AND taking care of any problems that might occur! They were great! Did I mention the food was Awesome! Two negative item was the drinks. They have overly priced their bottled water @ $5 a bottle and cokes @ $2 a can, alcoholic drinks are $9+. I would recommend the Bucket O Beer (6) at ~$19 (depending on brand). You can take the unopened ones back to your fringe in your room. The 2nd overly priced item was the Internet. I needed to check on one item during the week; a $5 one-time sign up charge with 18 minutes of on-line time cost me about $25. These were minor annoyances though! Wonder time Great Job NCL!

a little disappointing by KimM2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

We had previously only cruised with Royal Caribbean- so we expected something similar. The food was definitely not as good. The buffet was quite mediocre. Although it was supposed to be freestyle dining - we had to wait over an hour for the Versailles dining room, because they seated a party of 60- rather than taking people who were waiting in line. The room steward seemed annoyed by his job. Traveling with two small children, one of the things they look forward to are the towel animals- we only saw one the entire trip. We loved our server named Heidi, (from Aqua) she was extremely helpful and considerate to our party.

Ok Cruise. by AngelaW8

I felt the staff was very pleasant. Didn't feel there was alot to do on "at sea" days--if you weren't into exercise, bingo, or groups.

Tne Norwegian Star by JimK2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

The ship was built in 2001 and has few of the features of more current ships. On cold days they had no movable roof to cover the pool, the staterooms (outside) were small compared to Holland American. Small and inadaquet dinning rooms to handle 2100 passengers

O.K., but terrible coffee in all venues. by MarvinM2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

Cabin was excellent, other than the irregular floor; the balcony was spacious and used every morning. The crew constantly offered to assist us, without exception - the gratuity fees were well deserved. The coffee, in all the restarants was uniformly unpalatable while the restaurant menus were varied and always had good choices for both of us, and this includes the Endless Summer Buffet.

Lovely ship! by BertB

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

Design and ship layout good! NIce staterooms/baths. The food was not impressive in the dining rooms, buffet and specialty restaurants. ( Husband liked Cagneys) This was our first cruise (and probably last) on NCI. Freestyle did not work that well for me. The entertainment was just OK. Many of the public areas needed repair or cleaning. None of the latches worked in the women's restroom by the Grill eating area. Much of the time the toilet paper was out. It just did not seem like the ship was getting the TLC it needs. Showroom front row had at least 4 broken seats. Staff were all great. Everyone of them greeted the guests.

Great Trip! Great People! Great Boat! by SharonH20

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Mexico

We had a wonderful experience. All of your employees were very friendly, from the room staff to the food service areas, as well as the entertainers, the cruise director and his staff. The quality and variety of food in the "free" restaurants was so good, we didn't have any desire to go to the others, even though we had planned to and heard all good comments from other guest that tried them. I was amazed at the cleanliness of the ship that had so many people on board. It reminded me of how Disney Land keeps their parks so spotless. Late at night I saw people on their hands and knees cleaning off the bottoms of the chairs and the bases of the tables! The entertainment was excellent! The juggling act of Romano and the Sean the Magician were particularly entertaining. Our ports of call were all enjoyable; I love Puerto Vallarta and the "Old Town" section the best. This was a great getaway, I travel often and I would recommend this to anyone. We met several couples with children, I thought they would get board, but their parent said they were having a ball with all their new friends and didn't even want to eat with them. (That made the parents happy!) This was the same for the young kids as well as the teens. The only change I would make would be to get rid of those 2 slides by the pool, not that many kids even used them and they take up a lot of room, plus they have the slide in the back. A bigger pool would be nice, even if it was a very shallow 3 foot one with a sitting bench all around. It may also allow for more deck chair space that was in short supply. We ended up sitting by the shuffle board a few days because of the crowds by the pool. Thanks for the good memories!
