Never sailing Norwegian again by PhilG2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was our first cruise with Norwegian and I believe it will be our last. It all started with a 3hr wait once we got to the dock in Tampa to get on the boat. It's like they did not have a clue on how to get us through the line faster. The menu in the main dining rooms were not good at all. There were many times my wife called it mystery meat. The entertaiment or should I say the lack of entertainment was poor to say the least. I believe my kids middle school could put on a better show then they did.

A Beautiful Cruise with a Great Crew! by AaronJ

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Our cruise on the Norwegian Star was an absolutely fabulous experience. The ships crew was absolutely delightful. The onboard entertainment was of a really professional caliber, with stunning voices, beautiful dancing, and incredible performances. The most important tip I can give to anyone taking a cruise with Norwegian: DO NOT MISS THE ONBOARD SHOWS! There entertainment is an invaluable addition to your travelling experience. You'll be absolutely taken aback by the impressive displays. I had three complaints on this cruise: - One was that the wait staff in the main dining halls was really lacking. I often had to flag down a waiter for a refill, for a question, or for a problem with my food (which was rare). - Another was that the variety of food in the buffet dining and the 24/7 dining was lacking. - The last thing was the general lack of entertainment during the day. There were shopping talks and lounge music, but nothing truly entertaining. Despite the above complaints, it wasn't a bad trip. It was really excellent. Every other aspect of the trip was wonderful, we even won several raffles! We actually left the boat with more than we went on with because of that!

A fantastic trip by JamieK2

The ship itself was good. We didn't care for the fact that to get really good food, you had to pay extra at one of the specialty restaurants. Our room was excellent, but we thought for the price, more would come with it.

Great Cruise by CindyL6

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)

It's the best price I can find for the Alaska inside passage cruise. We love the daily shows they put on. The 3 stops at Alaska and the Glacir bay is great. I just wish we can get to Juneau earlier then 2pm. The price Rupurt port is boring, I would choose Victoria next time. The food is good, but everyday is the same menu for the buffet. Too cold and raining to use the pool. But generally speaking, good deal.

I thought the ship was clean & comfortable. I did not know that there is a daily charge to the passenger for ship services of twelve dollars a day.

The captain and crew of the STAR do everything possible to make sure you have a wonderful time and get your moneys worth. Alaskan scenery makes for a beautiful trip--one that you will always remember.

Family Vacation by LeeA

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We really liked a couple of the specialty restaurants, the buffet was OK and one of the two dining rooms was good as well. The other dining room (Versailles) we tried several times and each time was really disappointed. I was glad there were so many choices of different places to eat but at minimum they should all be good, as it would be in bad taste and rude to simply walk out if the food and service weren't up to standard as this one was. The staff at the bars were very engaging and a delight to chat with. Our room person was always very helpful in making sure we had whatever we needed. My overall experience minus the dining experience was very, very good.

Not on a Norweigen Free Style Cruise by SteveK9

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This is my eleventh cruise (first on Norwegian). We went on the 7 day Alaskan inside passage leaving Seattle and returning to Seattle. The free style cruising leaves a large misconception. Long lines for dinner. The food in the free dining rooms was nothing comparable to other cruises. It seems like the food that they are serving in the upper end restaurants (pay to eat) is what you should be getting in the restaurants. It seemed like every time you turned around they were trying to get into my wallet. A real joke for purchasing a bucket of beer you have to pay for the tub $5.00 and say that you get it back when you return it. Guess what I still got billed for about half of the tubs, even though they were returned. The service was way below par compared to all the other cruises that I have been on. There were definitely more cons than pros.

Not so Toddler Friendly by PeeleeD

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

I felt like I was cheap (even though we spent big bucks to cruise) because you have to pay for everything. There is a beautiful spa with the only indoor pool, hot tub, steam room... Only 100 guests can purchase the use of these amnenities for $119. That would have been relaxation for me but why is it not included?

mixed review by MarshaM1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Surprisingly the NCL line was not as service oriented as one taken previously. The food was marginal and often cold with fish that was not fresh. Dining options were limited and specialty restaurants were pricey options. There were additional charges for many more activities than I recall on prior NCL cruises several years ago. Cabin service was poor. Room service was slow and the food was poor. There seemed to be a staff shortage in the area where our cotravelers were....they are still waiting for ice as requested on two separate occasions. Were it not for amazing scenery and wonderful excursions it would be a complete waste of money.
