The captain and crew of the STAR do everything possible to make sure you have a wonderful time and get your moneys worth. Alaskan scenery makes for a beautiful trip--one that you will always remember.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
We had some very outstanding meals and some that were not so great -- it is hard to prepare for thousands of people! We did not participate in the "cover charge" dining restaurants -- but several people shared they thought those places were worth the extra money. Don't just go to the buffet -- the service and meals in the Aqua and the Versailles are too good to miss.

Entertainment

Always plenty to do or you can choose to do nothing!! Great variety -- great schedule --again, they aim to please you on every level. They know you have a choice and want you to choose Norwegian again --- and that is evident. I felt they were really sincere about wanting to give you their best for your vacation dollar.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The ENTIRE staff -- captain, crew, workers at every level are THE BEST!! Being waited on hand and foot by such lovely people from 60 different countries was amazing. They love their ship and their job and are always happy and aiming to please you. You know they are great when you don't even mind losing money in the casino -- they make you so happy!! I can't believe there could ever be another crew that will top this one -- the STAR has "set the bar"!!

Ship Quality

The staterooms with a balcony are definately worth the extra money on an Alaskan cruise. There is so much beautiful scenery to see --take along the binoculars and enjoy countless sights in the privacy of your own room. Sometimes you just enjoy these beautiful sites without other people around and this is the way to do it!!

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Our housekeeper kept our place spotless and worked around our schedule. Again -- the balcony was sooooooooo worth the extra money and having chosen lesser cabins on previous trips -- I am spoiled by the balcony and will save my money to make this choice again.

Ports of call

Prince Rupert, British Columbia

3 out of 5
Least favorite port -- really a place for the ship to get gas -- get off, walk around and get exercise -- nothing against Canada at all -- as a matter of fact, some might enjoy the fact that it is not so "commercial" -- great local art gallery -- don't miss it!
Don't Miss: Local art gallery

Ketchikan, Alaska

Loved the "misty Fjord" tour on the small boat -- lots of treats -- tons of beautiful sites -- well worth the money! (you even have time to shop afterward....)
Don't Miss: Take the "Misty Fjord" trip and see the glaciers -- waterfalls -- eagles, etc.

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
We had a beautiful sunny day -- which we know is rare--but the trainride is a MUST no matter the weather. Too much to see -- fun ride -- pleasant -- great narration!
Don't Miss: SKAGWAY RAILROAD

Juneau, Alaska

Go see the capital building and the local shops -- great place to walk around -- didn't do any side trips here -- LOVED the quilt shop upstairs (for all you seamstresses---save some money to purchase fabric!)

Pros: Wonderfully decorated, clean ship to take you through the beautiful Alaskan scenery.

Cons: Some meals were outstanding, but some were a little below average.
