Review summary

We were very impressed with the Norwegian Star as we sailed from Seattle to Skagway Alaska. The crew were very helpful and friendly.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

We didn't want to pay extra to eat at the specialty restaurants so we were left with more limited dining options. The ambiance was nice but generally very noisy and crowded. We are vegetarian and so the menu options were limited and not very creative. The one vegetarian option on the menu each evening was usually Italian.

Service and Staff

We called the help desk twice and received very prompt assistance. All the crew were smiling and seemed genuinely interested in helping.

Cabin / Stateroom

We were amazed how large our restroom was. Cabin storage space was generous with plenty of hangers, drawers and shelves to completely unpack all our things. The nice bathrobes that were provided was an unexpected bonus.

Ports of call

Juneau, Alaska

We took a city/glacier tour that was all very interesting but I wish we could have spent more time at the glacier. If we ever have the chance to go back I would go straight to the glacier. There is a hiking trail to a waterfall near the glacier that I would love to have taken but it's a 45 min hike one way. We were thrilled to see bears eating Salmon.
Don't Miss: Mendenhall Glacier

Ketchikan, Alaska

We took a bus tour of the city and Saxman's village. This was our least favorite tour of the entire cruise. We were on a big old bus with fogged up windows and a tour guide who seemed tired of his job.

Skagway, Alaska

We were on a small van tour of the city and then a drive to Frasier. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the local history and told great stories. When we booked the tour we thought it included a ride on the train so that was disappointing. When we got back to Skagway all the train tickets were sold out.

Prince Rupert, British Columbia

We didn't do any excursions at this port. It was cold and pouring rain. We did a little walking around town but most places seemed to be closed for the day.

Pros: Having our own balcony

Cons: other passengers smoking on deck
