bermuda cruise by TerriS3

I did not like the idea that smoking was allowed on the ship. I did not like being docked so far away from Hamilton and St.George.

Norwegian Spirit okay by BarbaraM5

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Bermuda

The ship needed more activites for the average person. Too much emphasis on partying at night and Bingo (that wasn't free to play). We had read that they had things for teenagers to do, but there was nothing. Bermuda was great, but we were told to book our excursions through the ship and thought we were overcharged on some. Some of the onshore trips you can do yourself and just take a bus or taxi, you don't need the cruise ship to book it for you. I see why they offer lower prices on the cruises, they get there money out of you in so many other ways. Next time I would just fly there and enjoy the island for as long as possible, you only have 3 short days there with the cruise.

WORST CRUISE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!! by JustinM95047003

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Bermuda

My Girlfriend, Nikki, and I sailed on May 8th 2009 from Boston to Bermuda. As soon as we boarded the ship we began experiencing problems that began at check in. My credit card would not link with Nikkis room card and her picture would not show up on the account. We rectified this right away, before heading to our room. Upon entering the room, `we discovered that the beds were not pushed together. I attempted to resolve this by doing it myself, only to find garbage and leftover food under both of the beds as well as under the room chair. We immediately notified the front desk as well as the room steward. During the next two days we ran into even more problems. The air conditioner in our state room was broken, which made the room very uncomfortable. The only linens stocked in our bathroom were two striped beach towels along with a pair of face cloths and a bathmat. As we began to unpack we opened a drawer to find someone elses underwear inside. Disgusted, we again informed the front desk and steward. Later that night, Nikki was showering when she realized that the shower was clogged and barely drained. Because of this, she could not open the shower down without flooding the whole bathroom. The only thing we could do is wait until the water drained as Nikki was stuck inside. During the second day, we experienced a nauseating sewage smell coming from the bathroom that was so potent that we had to leave the room only to return to sleep. Again, the front desk was informed as well as the Hotel Director, Frank. Following these maintenance issues, our room was constantly being worked on. The night of the captains dinner we returned to the room to get ready and found a technician working on the broken air conditioning unit which was spread out across the bed. Nikki, feeling very uncomfortable, was forced to use the fitness facilities to get ready. In an attempt to forget the many mishaps that had so far occurred, my girlfriend visited the salon and spa for some stress relief. Like all spas, she was asked to fill out a questionnaire on which she specified a severe allergy to strawberries. When taken in for her treatments, the beautician did not go over the form with her. She had a package of multiple treatments, one of them being a facial. After the facial scrub was removed, the beautician informed Nikki of the product she had used which contained a main ingredient of strawberries! She immediately recognized the symptoms, being an emergency medical technician herself. Her face became red and very itchy. She experienced minor throat irritation which she had to take Benadryl for. She carries an Epi pen in case of exposures and we were both extremely worried that she would need to use it. To emphasize the seriousness of this issue this allergy has the potential to have killed her or caused severe side effects. Most of the day was then spent in anxiety, hoping that the worst had passed. Once the reaction calmed down a bit the spa manager was approached and the situation was addressed with her. She was very helpful and told us the charges would be taken off the bill and also extended us a dinner offer. Again, the front desk about what was informed of the situation. Having reached the limits of our patience, the next morning we spoke to the front office manager in regards to everything that had happened. She took notes of everything and told us she would get back to us shortly. We waited in the room for her to contact us, missing out on the activities we had wanted to participate in. When she called us, she offered us the use of a balcony room as well as a $100 onboard credit, dinner at Cagneys restaurant and a free couples hot stone massage as approved by Frank the Hotel Director. This was generous but did not erase what had happened or give us back the time we had spent chasing around management and trying to solve problems that could have been easily avoided. To add insult to injury, the balcony room that was given to

A very good cruise by DickP

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Bermuda

The ship was neat and clean. Public restrooms were kept spotless and easy to locate. Food was good but not exceptional. Our stateroom was kept clean. The entertainment and shows were good but lacked variety. The staff and crew were friendly and helpful. A couple of the crewmembers went out of their way to help us.

Norwegian Spirit by DennisD4

We really enjoyed the Spirit and our cruising experience. Best of all was the FreeStyle Dining feature. The use of hand sanitizers at all eating places was a plus in helping to prevent the spread of germs and viruses. The food qulity was excellent except that it was often not served hot enough.

A terrific bargin by ToddR

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean

Destination: Central America, Curacau & Bermuda Sailing date: 2008-04-19 (12 days) We recently sailed on the NCL Spirit. This was our 3 cruise and 1st with NCL. We really like NCL's freestyle dining. The Windows main dining offered great views and was far better than the Gardens main dining (too cramped). Raffles buffet offered a good selection but most food was lukewarm. Blue Lagoon offered great comfort food. The nightlife activities were typical. Limited after hours dining. Nice pool with 4 large hot tubs. Nice casino with better than average cruise ship chance of winning. Our inside cabin was cozy for 2 but I wouldn't recommend it for anymore than 2. Overall we have to say the ship was better than expected. The staff was courteous and friendly but didn't always speak understandable English. Unfortunately, you always felt their goal was to get into your wallet everytime you turned around. 15% auto-gratuties on liquor/soda orders unjustified. While we were happy with the cruise itself, customer service prevented us from having a perfect cruise. The rep asked if we were celebrating any special events. We confirmed it was our 39th anniv and she said she would note the account. Unfortunely she never did and we didn't even get a free bottle of wine. After the trip admitted their mistake and said they would try to do better in the future (assuming we book with them again). The rep also suggested our cabin location for its lack of cabins behind it. Turns out the Atrium was behind it with music from the bar keeping us up most of the night. Don't rely on professionals.

the cotton-top express by RobertS6

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean

This was a 12-day snooze of a cruise. The entire ship was closed down (including the "disco") by 2pm every night. All of the interesting on-board activities were cancelled and replaced with Trivia. The staff was lax; stewards were poor. Food was terrible. 12 nights was much too long to be stuck on the Norwegian Spirit.

A Relaxing Cruise by LouisW

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean

The regular cabins on this ship were quite small in comparison to cabins on other cruise lines. The pool was their biggest asset. Large, clean and warm. Their children's pool was also very nice. The food was just satisfactory. One item I found odd was, you pay an additional price to go to a speciality reataurant and when you get there you find out that some menu items require an additional cost. The ship needed an additional large lounge. Henry's and the sports bar were small.

A Great Cruise, Fair Waitstaff Service by RaymondR

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship was nice but is their oldest of the fleet and is showing some signs of wear and tear. The ship staff were great with the exception of the waitstaff. The freestyle environment is great in terms of flexibility however it creates an environment that allows lackluster peformance. The waitstaff are not working for your tip but rather receive a prorata share of the gratuities that are automatically posted to your room account. This allows for lackluster service. That being said, we did have some excellent servers in the main dinning room on three of the nights and as it turns out they had worked in an "assigned seating" configuration prior in their careers.

Freestyle Cruising doesn't work by BobL10

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Western

A very nice ship, well-decorated and well laid out. Cabins were comfortable. But everything that was touted as a feature of "freestyle" cruising was a disaster. Rather than battle the lines, we either ate dinner at 5:30pm, or paid to eat in one of the cover charge restaurants. The freestyle disembarkation meant waiting about an hour and a half to get off the boat and up to the customs desk. The itinerary was interesting, but not particularly exciting. The port in Guatemala had great shopping, but only on the heavily armed compound. I overheard a conversation about an abduction taking place at one of the beaches. I never heard anything official about it, but I would not have been surprised. We took a trolley tour of Puerto Barrios, and while interesting, it was not a scenic or historic town, just a large city of impoverished people who stared at you as you went by. The tender at Belize took well over an hour to get on at the boat in order to take a long (30 mins?) ride into the town. The shopping there was not nearly as inspiring, and leaving the shopping area meant going through heavily armed checkpoints with people on the others side yelling to you to come over for "tours of the city". Costa Maya was like stepping into a Disney shopping area, with nice buildings, well painted, etc. Probably some nice "fun in the sun" activities, but we didn't venture beyond the shopping area. The crew was very friendly and happy to do most anything to make you comfortable.
