Cruise was okay by rmwcew

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

I would only rate this cruise as average.  The food was only medium quality.  If you want the good food,  they expect you to pay extra. Their main restaurants had additional fees if you wanted lobster or a better quality of steak. The beds were very hard and the pillows were thin.the bathrooms were very nice except all 220 and you need a converter to use your dryer which they had very few of. The shows were very good. You had to get there very early to get a good seat.

Wouldn't cruise with Norwegian again by helen1331

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

It was ok.  That's about it really.  We will stay with Royal Caribbean for future cruises.  Nothing wrong with the ship, food or night shows.  Service from the bar staff, customer service was nothing short of terrible.

What A Wonderful Cruise! by Lockback

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My wife and I just returned from a week aboard the Norwegian Spirit in the Caribbean.  This was my 10th cruise and our 6th together ... and it may have been our favorite!

First, the Spirit is a charming vessel.  By today's Mega Ship standards, it's small - I think the smallest in the NCL lineup.  But it's beautiful and the mood set by the crew and staff more than made up for any limitations it may have. The Tivoli Pool area is gorgeous (albeit not able to accommodate a huge number of sun bathers or swimmers), with columns and clever design touches that give it an exotic and warm feel.

The bars and restaurants offered a wide variety of food, drink and atmosphere.  Our favorite was Henry's Pub, a British-style bar with a friendly and helpful staff.  We were able to watch Super Bowl 50 there and the rowdy crowd kept the bartenders hopping!  During the week, other events were held there as well, including trivia and karaoke contests, all of which were entertaining and fun.  In addition, the Blue Lagoon restaurant features "comfort food", including wings, chicken sandwiches, paninis, fish 'n' chips and the most delicious tomato soup I've ever had!

We enjoy the NCL Freestyle Dining arrangement, which allows you to have dinner in a group or as a couple and whenever you want.  We used the Windows main dining room twice and the Garden room twice as well.  The Windows does require long pants for men, which is a nice touch if you feel a little more formal, while the Garden allows shorts and more casual wear.  But nowhere is it required to go Full Tux and Dress.  We did dine in the Tepenyaki Room one night, which is a Japanese Steak House experience where the chef cooks at your table.  It was delightfully entertaining and the food was, not surprisingly, excellent.  But then the food was excellent throughout the ship.  For a mere $20 I upgraded one night to the Surf And Turf filet mignon/lobster combo and it was among the best I've ever had.  Don't feel, however, that you have to pay extra for meals.  The standard fare offered on the Spirit was beautifully prepared and delicious, including a pork roast that was to die for!

While we didn't avail ourselves of the big productions in the Stardust Theater, people we talked to told us it was top notch.  Instead, we enjoyed a guitarist (Pablo, from Spain) at Champagne Charlies, which overlooks the stunningly gorgeous atrium at the center of the ship.  The view is breathtaking:  the elevators and lighting alone give the scene an amazing ambiance.

The cruise director Gio was an engaging and fun fellow and his minions on board made sure people had a good time.  We participated in karaoke and trivia contests as well as a Quest game on the final night and had an absolute ball.  It's hard to judge why a particular cruise seems to take on a definite personality but the Spirit seemed to attract fun people who enjoyed meeting one another.  We were blessed to make many new friends on this cruise!  Perhaps it's the ship's relatively small size that makes it a more intimate experience.  Or maybe it's the crew or the cruise director.  But whatever it is, it was a delightful experience.

Our complaints were very minor.  Our room steward was adequate but not fantastic.  Our stateroom was small and lacked as many electrical outlets as we would have liked.  And the hair drier in the bathroom looked like something out of a 1960s Sci-Fi movie.  In addition, the weather for our days at sea was cold and windy ... but obviously NCL has no control over that!

If you're looking at a Caribbean cruise and aren't necessarily enamored with the idea of boarding a ship the size of a small city, you owe it to yourself to take a long look at the Spirit (there are many YouTube videos, for instance, including ones I've posted upon our return.) It's a fun, charming, beautiful ship with great food and entertainment and a classy but exciting vibe that made the seven days pass all too quickly  We miss it already and hope to sail on her again!

Spirit in February by timm162

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Embarkation and debarkation were very slick. The ship itself seemed a bit dated--woodwork scratched, carpets stained. The staff was wonderful--all  very friendly and helpful. The food and entertainment were both quite good--not the best we have had but far from the worst. We couldn't get to Grand Cayman apparently due to rough seas. The private island was very nice--if you moved away from the first beach it was not crowded in the least.

Glen's get away by glen008

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Room steward was excellent but many of the staff had poor command of the English language, and the bartender did not understand about the wine package that I wanted to purchase and gave me all four bottles of wine at once and not the wine chits. Could do with more training there. Waiter in Le Bistro was excellent, not so in the steak house or the Italian restaurant. Ports of call were OK but St Thomas bus tour was pretty bad. Driver never stopped long enough for us to take pictures and dropped us off at a pretty cheap tourist junk shop. Guess the shop paid the busses to all stop there but almost everything for sale was made in China. I don't go on a cruise to buy the same crap that I can buy at my local Dollar store. Bus tour on Tortola was great. Good driver who stopped often and explained what we were looking at. Only good thing about the St Thomas tour was the SkyRide. but the port is pretty run down and the infrastructure was bad. In Tortola the roads were not full of potholes and the whole island looked clean and not dirty like St Thomas. Will not go back to ST Thomas but may go back to Tortola for a vacation or maybe to buy a time share there.

GREAT SHIP - great trip by slickfarr

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

I can't imagine a better experience than what we had on the Norwegian Spirit. The NCL Spirit very comfortable and cozy compared to the larger ships. The food and service was excellent in every restaurant we visited - including the buffett, Bier Garden, Shogun, Le Bristro and Cagney's. We had dinner with the Hotel Director in Windows main dining room and that was a very special treat.

Every crew member we inter acted with treated us like old friends...which we are - and some remembered us from previous cruises. All the crew were well trained and most greeted us with a smile when we met them face to face.

The entertainment was very good - comic was funny - magician was magicial - dancers and flyers were special.

All in all - one of our best cruises ever - and we've cruised over 30 times - mostly with Norwegian...and we plan on sticking with them...because we love their brand of hospitality.

The ship is in excellent shape considering its age. The whole crew were just wonderful. We had a great time at all the shows. Loading and unloading of passengers was a breeze. The new terminal was well laid out.

relaxing & enjoyable time with a few complaints by bitemenow

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

overall was a great trip!  this was my first NCL cruise and I would cruise with them again, we were on the spirit which was a smaller ship, but was nice, we had an issue with our bathroom the first day and a 1/2,   and it took several calls and a trip to the service desk before it was finally resolved,  but NCL sent us a tray of chocolate covered strawberries and a bottle of wine to acknowledged our inconvenience which we appreciated.  I loved the itinerary but did not care too much for having two sea days at the end I'd rather them be at the beginning it just seemed so long at sea to get back to port, my only complaint would be the buffet and the entertainment choices I feel on a 7-night trip they didn't plan it out very well, one night there wasn't much scheduled going on and then the next night there was four things going on at the same time and I found that to be disappointing, All staff we encountered were friendly and helpful except for one lady on the dining staff who was a bit rude, we did not dine in any specialty restaurants  we dined in the garden room and shogun asian fusion and they were both good, the buffet was a bit boring not many changes from day to day and it seemed to be the same thing over and over at lunch time

FIRST TIME TRY FREESTYLE by gtdawson64

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

MY HUSBAND AND I DECIDED TO TRY THE FREESTYLE CRUISING.  IT WAS A DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE FROM THE TRADITIONAL WAY.  THE RESERVATION SYSTEM TOOK AWHILE TO UNDERSTAND AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT, BUT THAT WORKED.  WE STILL DRESSED UP FOR THE SPECIALTY NIGHTS AS THAT IS OUR WAY TO SHINE.  THE SHIP "SPIRIT" WAS A NICE SIZE.  THE FOOD WAS NOT TERRIBLY DEFINABLE WITH CERTAIN LIKES OF OURS MISSING.  BUT ALL IN ALL, IT WAS A FINE CRUISE AND THE STAFF WAS VERY COURTEOUS.

The Best of Times by Cruiser348

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

HappyWe had a fabulous time on our 7 day cruise on the Norwegian Spirit that sailed on January 30, 2016. The ship is not one of the mega ships and lacks some of the features of those newer and larger ships but it was just what we needed. We ate at the Windows restaurant every evening but one and had some of the best dining experiences we have ever had. The staff was so wonderful and friendly it reminded me of the old cruise days when you had your wait staff for the whole week and you really got to know them.

In Nassua, we went to the Straw Market and thankfully it was Sunday and only about 1/3 of the vendors were open .....which means we got out of there in record time. We then walked to Junkanoo beach and sat at the Tiki hut there where you get 4 beers and 4 shots for $10. We also met the owner of the place who was also lead vocal on the hit song...Who Let the Dogs Out. We were going to take a taxi back to the ship but the locals told us to take the bus for $1.25. We did and it worked perfectly.

St Thomas, where we honeymooned 35 years ago, was amazing as always. We took a taxi right from the dock to Magens Bay for $8/person.....rented chairs and had just a great time. It is as beautiful as it was 35 years ago but a lot more people than back in the day. Taxied back to Charlotte Amolie for some brief shopping $8/person. Great day.

Tortola, which is just starting to figure out the cruise industry, has a lot of construction in the dock area. It will take some time but it will be great. That being said it was our favorite port. We decide to do a ship excursion to transport us to and from the ship to Cane Garden Bay Beach. We did this because we didn't know what the taxi situation would be......glad we did it and it was only $39. The ride over the mountain is  a mixture of very steep grades and hairpin turns that was fun and exhilarating and provided tremendous vistas for picture taking.. The beach was one of the best I have ever been on.....beautiful white sand, crystal clear water and a panoramic view that is second to none. There I was laying in the lounge chair on the edge of the water looking out on the most beautiful scenery imaginable, drinking a Corona that is so cold it's almost turned to ice and I thought " Lord, you can take me now".

Very Good Time by joemaloney6

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Wait staff in the restaurants and hotel staff (cleaning rooms) were very courteous and attentive -I was impressed. Food was good, and selection had a lot of variety. Most of the shows were good - especially the song and dance shows (I am not a big fan of magicians and acrobats, so my opinion on these may be biased). There seemed to be a lot of varied activities for every interest.

Crew members were the worst of any cruise I have taken in 25 years by bfeldman134

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The ship is comfortable, the food was average, formal nights were not scheduled (Dress or Not is the option given on both sea days).

If you did not pay additional fee or choose to dine in the specialty restaurants, dinner was just average. Pork products were in greater abundance than beef.

Crew walked past you without acknowledging you

Wait staff did not identify themselves in either dining room

Guest Relations staff were unfriendly

First and only NCL for us.
