Review summary

Over all, this was an ok trip. I would suggest if anyone wants to really see Alaska, do a land and sea package and travel the outer passage.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The main dining room menus are not what they used to be. Selections were good, but the offerings seemed similar, many were on the spicy side as a whole. Two nights we chose from the standard fare. The staff was great accommodating ten of us and very efficient, no issues with getting the correct orders, etc. Many went above and beyond. The buffet was good, breakfast is the best. Lunch was ok, but different than past experiences with offerings. Staff was great clearing tables and moving passengers in and out of the buffet. did not eat here for dinner so no idea how dinner was. Bar service, a lot to be desired! There are a couple bartenders that did not know how to fit a margarita, Pina colada, or even a Malibu and pineapple drink properly, often substituted rum for coconut rum! They were either too much alcohol or watered down. Wine and beer was good! Fountain type sodas like Sprite and Coke were watered down. Cagney's was great! Steaks, service and atmosphere were met with expectations from past cruises on Norwegian.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
This cruise was not for the kids or teens. No kid's club and very few kid activities. No teen get togethers, lounge, etc. I wish I had realized it before booking it on this ship as I had brought my sons and their families abroad.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Good productions for most part, especially Alex Ortiz! The cast productions were well done, choreography was the best I have seen since Disney! Vocalists were good, however, the mix of the music and voices was not so good. It appeared the voices were either over or under the instrumental backings. The black female vocalist was always under for some reason. Good vocals however! I felt the acrobats were ok, not all that entertaining, and the magic show as average. The final night production was good, great mix of all involved. Music could be less. The lights at top of stage flashing into audience should be adjusted so not to be in the audience yes.

Children's Programs

Nothing here! My two youngest (4 1/2 and 8 yrs. old) only had Karaoke and some coloring to do and they enjoyed that. However, my teens 14 and 19 did not have anything to do and were bored.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
A great staff as for service. The stateroom staff was excellent as well as our waiters and their staff in the dining areas.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
These areas were well maintained and well kept, above my expectations!

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
No issues except the AC was on full time and thermostat would not adjust. I did try to get assistance on final day and it took two tries, but finally at 7:00pm the tech showed up and did a great job in a short amount of time! My room was 6565 not 6581 as listed!

Ship tip

Read activities especially if you are bringing children or teens.

Ports of call

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia Did not visit port

Not enough time.

Sitka, Alaska

4 out of 5
It was ok, we did the whales and sea life adventure. Did not go into to town. The tour was great and a well seasoned guide on board.

Juneau, Alaska

5 out of 5
We did go into the port but not very long due to catching the excursion, salmon fishing.

Skagway, Alaska

4 out of 5
Not much to do in town except shop and escape all the jewelry stores! Having been there previously on 3 trips, repeated excursions were of no interest.

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

3 out of 5
To me, this was a "not much to do stop." I booked a halibut fishing trip outside the cruise line in order to have something to do.

Cruise Hubbard Glacier

3 out of 5
Fog, ice and rain prevented our sight of the glacier. I am sure many were disappointed. I had seen it before as well as others from past trips so this was no problem. But my friend with me had not and she was disappointed, but you can only blame the weather!

Seward (Anchorage), Alaska Did not visit port

arrival and departure times.
