Review summary

Felt like we needed more time in each port, except Naples. Always felt rushed. The price of your bottled water is ridiculous!! $5 per bottle or $53 for a case...come on that alone leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Then to add insult to injury it said if you purchase the water before the cruise it would be cheaper....NOT TRUE!! You were discounting the water for a case to $49 plus adding a bottle holder at a nominal price. No one would even address that situation with me. So although the steward, and wait staff is excellent...your customer service is poor. I know that isn't much of a difference...it is just the point of it all. You can't say one thing and then do another. Or show one photo and have it not be the same. Loved Italy and Greece, NCL not so much!! That is the only reason overall rating is 2.8 because of the Ports of Call.

Food and Dining

The specialty restaurants were good, as well as the restaurants where you order. The buffet by the pool got old and things were just passable. Unless you had your eggs cooked they were awful in the buffet. The last 2 days of the cruise the food really went downhill....everything tasted stale.

Most of the staff was excellent...our steward was wonderful as were the wait staff. But the first day at customer service set the tone for the entire trip (see below under cabin)

Cabin / Stateroom

We were highly disappointed to the point where we may choose another cruise line. We booked a balcony because our adult daughter was sharing the room. We had an ocean view room on a trip to Alaska so was expecting that size or larger with the upgrade to Balcony. It was much, much smaller. It was old, and I don't think ever remodeled since it was built. Everything was old and felt dirty. The grout in the bathroom was disgusting we wore flip flops in the shower. When you stepped on the bath mat dark spots would seep up from the floor. There was nothing the steward could do to clean it...or anyone...OLD GROUT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED!!!!! When I complained to Customer Service he turned it around on me, that my travel agent () should have told us before booking. Not so, I told Marriott what I wanted based on the Itinerary and our trip to Alaska. When I said the photos showed the same cabin as Alaska he said, that there is a disclaimer on the website that photos are not of your ship...just generic and this ship is older. I have been in older hotels and they remodel!!!!

Ship tip

If the room matters to you don't book it.

Ports of call

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

Did not do an excursion thru the ship since we had a day before and 2 days after. This is hard to rate as Rome since it is an hour away. The port itself is not as beautiful as the others on the trip.

Mykonos, Greece

Tourist trap, like Disneyland...maybe a different time of year (not summer) would be better. Did the excursion. The tour guide was good....there just wasn't much to it.

Piraeus (Athens), Greece

Very hot. Did the excursion to the Acropolis and Plaka. Got into Athens late and our tour guide tried to cram everything in, and walked really fast because of it. That made it unpleasant. It was in the 90's. I thought one guy was going to have a heat stroke. The reason I gave it a 4 was because it's the Acropolis...a must see.

Rhodes, Greece

Loved the excursion.

Santorini, Greece

Souda (Chania), Crete

Loved Crete did the excursion to the monastery and into Chania. Excellent tour guide.

Valletta, Malta

Great, did the excursion. The person leading the excursion has a great deal to do with how you feel about it. This excursion was similar to Rhodes, but the tour guide in Rhodes was much better. This one liked to hear himself talk and didn't want to allow time for photos.

Messina, Sicily

OK excursion, was disappointed that the Greek theater on the excursion has modern day retro-fittings not what was shown in the photos.

Naples, Italy

Did not do an excursion....did a walking tour on our own thru a phone app. We felt we could do this because it was the only port where we had more than enough time.
