Never Norwegian Again by debkennedy2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Security check in was horrible.  I paid $5  for a bottle of wine and Norwegian wanted $15 to bring aboard.  I had a couple of bottles of ice tea in a cooler.  One of the security people took them out open them and you could hear the seal break, she them proceeded to put it to her nose, touching the rim with her nose to smell it after clearly knowing that she had broken the seal.  That was so unsanitary.  I ended up throwing them in the garbage.  The people at the service desk was so rude.  I always pay cash at the end of the cruise and therefore have the gratuities removed.  Every time I went to service desk to do this I was told I had to come back at the end of cruise. I did not like this cruise and will never book a Norwegian cruise again.  I have been on many cruises with different cruse lines, but this was by far the worst.

Worst Cruise Ever by QuoVadisGreen

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

I've been on the Sky before but this was the worst the AC in room didn't work and they didn't fix it a cruise ship member stole money out of my room and it was never found and then they sent security up to search me and pat me down and go threw my luggage like I stole it yet they didn't question the strewardist or anything they also said they would give me back my money for a excursion then the morning we get back in Miami they say see someone shoreside but when I get off the ship there is no one shoreside from NCL I'm then instructed to call a 800 number and was on hold for 2hrs only to be told there is nothing they can do I WILL NEVER CRUISE WITH NCL AGAIN

it was great but could have been better by nchansoria

really enjoy the free style cruise and stops they have made

only thing bothers is that they give very little time between two stops and let me be honest they are not far so it doesnt take time anyways .

food selections was good for a three day cruise and really liked the selction depending on the destination

rooms were not as big as shown in the pictures , they were way to clumsy and small and beds were not comfortable at all

DONT EVER GET four person bedroom as forth one may have problem as their bunkbeds are horrible

moving on from beds

time your destination as this cruise line dont provide much needed time to explore your destination

on board activites were not so good . the shows were really bad except for one where they sing and dance and compete

really didnt enjoy as expected but still due to destination being great had good times

staff was really nice and co-operative people

trust me on this one . if you need anything sepcial to eat they will bring it to you from back for your comfort

they close down the deck pretty soon it should stay open and active for least until 2 AM

cruise was way more expensive according to what i got from it

Unable to board by jenniferawillia

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

We were late due to our plane leaving and we were unable to board the boat!!! They were unable to accomadate us , therefore wer were stuck in Miami without hotel reservations and transporation.  This left a sour taste in my mouth for Norwegian, so I will not be trying to book a cruise with them again.  Although I purchased the trip insurance, different agents told us different maximum allotments. But none of them was for a refund of my money, even though it was not my fault.

not good managment on the ship. by DonaldS2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

The comon area toilets were dirty needed to be cleaned better and they smelled from urin

The casino was always a place smokers came and stunk up the place.  Casino managment was rude.

Food in the dinning rooms was sometimes cold. No varrity in the menue.

We have cruised almost all lines. Princess was the best carnival was very good also. Royal cribbean was also very good. Holland American was  very fine but I don't think we will be traveling on  N. C. L. again. Sky was very pretty but conditions were not up to par.

First Experience by davidlucas

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Our first cruise, was very leery of being "trapped" where we could not leave. However, within moments of boarding we felt very assured that we could relax. There was never any point on the cruise where we felt uneasy. Everyone on the staff was super friendly and welcoming, especially our stateroom steward. Food was great, atmosphere was wonderful. As older (we don't normally think of ourselves as old) we didn't feel excluded from events but we enjoyed NOT hearing partying when we retired for the evening. We enjoyed the restaurants and the casual "freestyle" cruising.

Great experience for first-time cruisers! by hburton123

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

My husband and I chose to celebrate our anniversary by taking a cruise for the first time.  We chose NCL for the price and the itinerary.  We were very pleased with our choice.  The best thing about this cruise was the food.  It was excellent!  We ate at the buffet every morning for breakfast.  I did not care for the buffet for lunch but really enjoyed the made-to-order pasta bar at Il Adagio during lunchtime.  This restaurant costs extra at dinnertime, but is free for lunch.  At dinner, we ate at Crossings and Palace, each of the main dining rooms that are included in the price of the cruise.  Both were excellent - excellent service and food!  We also ate one night at Le Bistro, one of the premium restaurants for which there is an additional charge.  As expected, it was superb.

We also enjoyed the many many onboard activities and entertainment every evening.  At home, we generally go to bed early, but on board we were up every night past midnight because there was so much to see & do!  The game shows, The Newlywed Game and the Perfect Couple Game, were hilarious!  We enjoyed listening to salsa music by Duo Caribe.  We enjoyed the comic Andrew Kennedy but felt that sometimes his material seemed thin.

Our stateroom was very nice.  We had an oceanview and, although there was not a lot of extra room, we had sufficient room to put all of our clothes & toiletries away.  The bed was extremely comfortable and we slept like babies every night!

Of the ports of call, we enjoyed Freeport and Great Stirrup Cay the most.  From Freeport we went on a snorkeling excursion booked through the cruise line.  We thought it was well worth the money.  Afterwards, we hung out in Port Lucaya, a town on the island that we had visited previously and really enjoy.  Great Stirrup Cay, NCL's private island, was really enjoyable.  It actually turned out to be our least expensive day since we chose not to drink alcohol nor rent any rafts or snorkel gear.  There were plenty of beach chairs and shade, the barbecue lunch that is provided was perfect for the setting, and the beautiful sand and water were free!

Overall, we would highly recommend a Norwegian Cruise Line cruise to anyone, especially first-time cruisers!

Fun, but too much and too little by kimber0007

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Boarding the vessel was extremely easy and fast. We drove in and used the port parking while on the cruise. Unfortunately all of our paperwork failed to mention where exactly we were supposed to go as far as Terminals and parking garages went. We ended up having to stop and call Norwegian to find out it was Terminal C.  All of the staff was very nice, very kind. SOME of them went out of their way to make our experience extra enjoyable and others would just say sorry to special request (especially at dinner)

This cruise is good for first time cruisers or older couples that are  either not aware of what is missing from the vacation aboard a cruise ship, or not into staying up too late and partying on the ship. We found ourselves quite bored in the evenings due to lack of entertainment available at sea. The fact that the ship ports every day is actually a little overwhelming and tiresome if you plan to stay up late every night. Unfortunately as hard as it seems they try the dj's and dance club never seem to be jumpin...the hot white party was OK but this cruise isn't really for younger couples who want to party and have a good time. Sadly the dance club has a very small floor and looks like something more of a strip club scene with all the velvet chairs that face the floor which makes it a bit awkward to want to get up and dance with people just sitting and staring...Convinced that Norwegian sends some crew members out as "cruisers" and try to pull people from the chairs to dance with them to get the atmosphere going. It works a little, but it's still not the right crowd for it to be completely successful. I give them mad props for trying though as the "cruisers" were very nice individuals and tried very hard to succeed as much as they did. Other entertainment on board was either at very random times that they never seemed to fit our schedule, or just not really anything we felt like participating in. Sadly the "sports bar" only has one sports channel so it's hit or miss if you are hoping to catch a certain game. They mostly played soccer/futball games from 2010 that we noticed.

Food - main dining room "The Palace" and "The Crossing" both had the exact same menu's every night but were just worded a bit different in each. The food was very tastey, but nothing really spectacular. The presentation of the food was always impeccable but unfortunately the taste was sometimes a little bland, especially when it came to desserts. They tasted like they were flash frozen/thawed cakes. We didn't try any of the specialty restaurants because we really didn't feel like spending more money than we had to for a decent meal.

The cruise ports to 3 different islands of the Bahama's. Freeport - if you don't take or do an excursion you will be pretty bored within the first 2 hours of being there as there is not too much around the port area without taking a cab to explore. One thing I really love about Norwegian is unlike most other cruise lines I've ever gone on, they do not seem to over charge for excursions. We were going to take a cab on our own to Lucaya National Park and the cab driver wanted $100 per couple so we didn't end up going, but once we got back on board  we realized too late that they actually give you excursions + "do it yourself" rates for each port of call, and according to their chart we would have been robbed blind had we taken the cab. Not only did the cab driver lie about how long it would take to get to the park but also would have upcharged us about 40% more just because we seemed gullable at the time.

Second port of call is Nassau. There is a little more to see and do around the port in Nassau however it's definitely worth $4 pp for a water-taxi to go and spend time at Atlantis for the day unless you have another excursion in mind.

Last port is Stirrup Cay which is Norwegians "private" island even though within a short distance away we noticed a Carnival cruise ship ported as well. The beach is nice, pretty big area to walk around and find privacy if wanted. Sadly it looks like a man-made beach as the sand has fake seashells in it...it looks like the island use to be a rock and it was bulldozed and turned into a private island. Again the beach was nice, the water was warm and it's pretty shallow so you can get pretty far out without any danger. Lots of activities available on the beach for a fee. We were encouraged to bring our beach towels from on board with us and there are plenty of lounge chairs available for free to use.

In all - it was a nice little cruise with a very friendly staff that seemed to try very hard to make it all as fun as possible for everyone. I really want to recognize the crew aboard this ship as they work tirelessly at cleaning and making sure the ship always looks good and they are always cooking and serving up food 24 hours a day. For as many hours as these fine people work for the most part they are all very nice, very kind and always have a smile on their face. I never heard a single one of them complain about anything...and one thing to really keep in mind is that they do this job 7 days a week with new people coming aboard twice a week ,but they still make you feel special and your cruise a one of a kind experience.

I recommend this cruise for anyone who just wants to get away and plans to do a lot of relaxing with no intention of worrying about the entertainment factor on board. I think if you lounge at the pool all day and go to sleep early enough to get off the boats when they arrive in port at 8am every morning and make the most of your day ashore you will truely enjoy this cruise. If you are honeymooning or young and looking to have fun till the wee hours of the morning this is not the cruise for you.

horrible cruise!! by uzzell2014

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

I will never ever go on a norwegian cruise!!

1.Very old boat

2. FOOD HORRIBLE (Hamburger and hot dogs for almost every meal)

3. Terrible customer service.

4.Terrible entertainment

Mold on the 8th floor. No captains dinner. The entire entertainment crew was rude! They would walk by you and not utter a word.

I wrote a two page letter to them the dya after my cruise and they still have not responded. I called there customer service number 9 times with a average wait of 22 minutes for I gave up. There is way so much to tell. I advise anyone not to go on norwegian sky!!! PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!

Bahamas Cruise by danabob91

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

This was a fun cruise.  Weather conditions kept us from going to the private island and pool side/deck was way crowded that day.  The buffet was the same menu ALL 3 days which got old.  Food was ok.

Buyer beware! by Nothappyeither

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

This was my first cruise (and my last ever on Norwegian) but my friend with traveled with me had been on Carnival to compare her experience with but here's mine: from the moment we stepped on the ship to the moment we got off we were dissatisfied!! First-as you have seen from other postings-- we were told we could purchase the alcohol package on board also and found out within minutes of arriving we could not...but we were more than able to purchase a $100 bottle of alcohol with an additional 15% gratuity or a ridiculously over priced wine package!  Upon contacting the corp number and "going to the top" and being told "we have the right to change policies at will" (meaning so sad; too bad and you know what else it means!!). Needless to say that attitude and treatment put a damper on the fun but we tried to make the most of it....until....we were stuck on the ship for 36 hrs due to cancellation of 2nd private island stop  and with  lack of deck chairs and pool size/space only added to the frustration of paying the full price for this cruise but only getting a portion of what was "promised/planned". The rum punch they served that day to pacify us had no rum in it! I drank 5 fast with the  hopes of getting a buzz going only to be left needing the bathroom--and no buzz--nada nothing!!! :(

Saturday night there was a bill in my room for $5.18 for a bottle of water--which we DID NOT drink!! Had to argue with room service and the porter over this to get it credited back to my account. Unreal!

Sunday night we went to settle our accounts only to find they charged us again for the $12/day service fee after already paying for them in advance and was told to call the number when I get off the ship to get my credit! Seriously??!!  I found my receipt and took it back Monday a.m. and amazing they credited it back immediately.....makes you wonder doesnt it?? Some pretty shady dealings all around on this cruise! (additionally they credited friends account for activity/excursion charges I had paid for in advcance on my personal CC and was told to square it away with her--they would not credit my account directly).Shame on Norwegian....and now you know: buyer beware!

The wine bottles, garbage and dirty plates were left in our room the entire 3+days! Bathroom floors werent cleaned--3 days worth of hair all over! Dirty glasses in bathroom never switched or removed!!

Cant say much for the entertainment but friend said Carnival entertainment was so much better than Norwegian.

Drink package cancelled! by teresabettina

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

We booked this cruise on and were told we could buy a $50 per day drink package, including alcoholic beverages and soda. We were also told both people in the room had to buy it. We tried to add it at the time of purchasing the cruise and were told we could book it on the ship. When we got on the ship, we were told the package was cancelled the day before! Customer service on the ship was not helpful-they suggested we call the cruise line from out room (at $4.99 per minute!) if we wanted to complain.  The customer service agent on board said she could not call the cruise line-her phone did not call out.  This got our trip off to a very unhappy start.  There were people on the cruise who had pre-purchased the package and it was honoured, so if the agent had let us book it when we were booking our cruise, we would have had it. We were also surprised to see automatic gratuities of 15% added to every beverage purchase, even though the documents provided said that bartenders and servers didn't share in the "discretionary" automatically-added gratuity.  Of course they didn't need  a share of that -they were getting 15% on every sale!  Also, if you wanted to dispute the automatic gratuity, there was a one hour window to do so.

On the first day, we were to dock at Nassau.  There were no indications or instructions anywhere as to where we were suppposed to get off the ship.  (it was 12 floors!) We found a staff member (a performer in one of the shows) who told us what floor to go to, and there was one sign with an arrow.  It was very difficult to find our way off.

We did not dock at all the second day (on the private island) due to the choppiness or something. We stayed on board, fighting over the very few deck chairs.  Forget about getting into the pools-the capacity of one pool was listed as 17 people, and the other one wasn't much bigger. Totally insufficient for the 2000+ people on board.  The "quiet" pool was fairly empty, but it was also only two feet deep and about 12 feet by 10 feet, so there wasn't much capacity there, either.

There was no soap in our bathroom.  there was shampoo in a dispenser in the shower, and some other (unlabeled) liquid which may have been body wash or conditioner-who know? Our room attendent "snuck" us two bars of soap and said not to tell anybody-it was supposed to be saved for the suites!  He did do a great job of keeping our room tidy.

The two shows we attended (comedian Andrew Kennedy and the Vegas show) were good.

I have never been on a cruise before and probably will never do it again.

My wife and I enjoyed the 4 days on this cruise.  The staff was exceptionally kind and available for anything that we needed.  We recommend that others take advantage of this time "away".  It was just what we needed for rest and relaxation.

not impressed by twinmom042195

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

We sailed on the Norwegian Sky May 12-16, 2014.  When we were going through security, my purse AND carry on were both searched.  The carry on had 3 bottles of wine which we had to pay $15 a bottle corkage fee on (the other cruiseline we sailed does not charge this fee UNLESS you take it to the dining room to have with your meal) I paid more in corkage fees than I paid for the wine in the first place!!  After we got that issue taken care of, I was looking for my purse and it was still on the conveyor.  I went to get it and was very harshly asked where I was going with that bag.  I explained to the lady that it was my bag and I was going to board the ship.  She immediately started YELLING for security and I asked her why my bag needed to be searched, she never answered me, she continued to YELL security and I asked her if it was ok for me to take it to the table where my other bag was searched.  She didn't answer me, kept yelling security and I picked the bag up and took it to the table where my carry on was and she watched every step I made.  Had she told me what they were looking for, I could have told her that it was my fold up cane.  I was humiliated, to say the least.  Everyones eyes were on me.  The last cruiseline we sailed on, 3 weeks prior to this one, had no issue with my cane.  It went through the scanner with no problem.  By this time I was ready to cut our losses and drive back to NC from Miami!!!!!  I was totally blown away with the way I was treated.  I mentioned this to a couple of Norwegian staff and they just kinda blew it off.  They acted like it wasn't the first time they were told about this.  By now, I have been up for 36 hours, driven 14 hours, had a migraine and was past disgusted!!!  I needed to go to our balcony room, which I had been looking forward to, to sit on the balcony with a glass of wine and chill.  Not so much.....We had an aft balcony and there was soot EVERYWHERE!!!!  Avoid an aft balcony at all costs!!  Ruined a pair of brand new shorts because we weren't sure what it was, until we got up and had it floating in our drinks!  DISGUSTING to say the least.  When we mentioned this to our stewardess, she made out like that was the first time she had seen anything like that and 'attempted' (not very well) to clean the lounge chairs. Not only was there soot everywhere, there were chicken bones and cigarette butts out there.  Again, I was ready to cut our losses and go home!  When we received our checked luggage, it had been gone through also.  No one could explain why.  I guess, because of my cane, I was smuggling something in my checked luggage.  We only ate at the outdoor buffet and the garden cafe.  The food was wonderful!!  No compaints at all there.  I will have to say that the ship itself was clean and the staff was cordial.

We had made up our minds that we were going to try all of the cruise lines and see which one we liked best and right now the winner is NOT Norwegian!  I will never sail Norwegian again, unless they offer extremely deep discounted rate or give us a free cruise, even then, we would really have to think long and hard about sailing Norwegian again!!

Pictures are of the soot of the balcony that we took to send to Norwegian...

Glad I Tried by mikedean39

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Wanted to shake up my experience so I booked a suite with a butler as a perk.  Found out that the butler, at least this one, was either over worked or lacked desire to fulfill even our basic desires, and was nothing more than a room service crew member.  We asked for some items only a butler can do for their guest and he failed.

Embark and debark was a breeze due to suite perk.  Even debarking at their private island with assistance from the concierge was good.  The Concierge was great.  Karin really cares for her guests and it shows.

We ate at Cagney's for breakfast being suite guests and we chose eating in the 2 MDRs for dinner.  Food was good at all 3 places.  No complaints.  Food and service were good.

Was nice to have senior officers walking around and stopping in passageways and tables to chat with guests.

Private island time was good.  Plenty of loungers for all.  Food for lunch was good too.  There are a few beaches to choose.  We found the 1st one had a lot of rocks at waters edge and in the water.

i liked NCL enough to book another suite for a Western Caribbean...

Great cruise.  Food was excellent, service and staff were wonderful.  The staff was so friendly and helpful and all always had  a smile on their faces.  Great idea with the hand sanitizer at any resturant.   Shows were wonderful and the comedian Russ Rivas and the dancers were Fabulous!    The only problem we had was he room was way too small for three people.  I will think twice before booking another cruise for 3 people...  Not sure if all ships have the same size rooms.
