Norwegian Sky overview

By Cruiseline.com - Updated Mar. 9, 2020

Despite being one of the smallest vessels in the fleet, Norwegian Sky offers the cruise line’s signature amenities, from the full-service Mandara Spa and Salon to its sports courts and Splash Academy children’s program. The ship boasts two golf driving nets, eight bars and lounges, and five outdoor hot tubs, including one that’s designated for kids. And for those who love to be entertained, Sky offers several high-energy shows, such as Rock You Tonight, the ship’s tribute to rock icons, and Showdown, a mock talent competition a la American Idol where the audience picks the winner.

Revitalized from bow to stern in 2019 through the multimillion-dollar Norwegian Edge program, Norwegian Sky came away from dry dock with several new venues, including a Starbucks-licensed shop, the Pinnacle Lounge, and Sushi Bar, and the vibrant Bliss Ultra Lounge. With updated recreation areas and common spaces, a renovated pool deck, and more seating in the ship’s lounges, Sky promises an improved passenger experience overall.

Norwegian Sky cruises range from 3 to 6 days, with destinations in the Bahamas and Caribbean. All of the ship’s voyages include an all-day stop at Norwegian’s own private island, Great Stirrup Cay, where passengers can snorkel, lounge on white sand beaches, and swim with dolphins. For busy travelers looking for a short weekend getaway, Norwegian Sky offers 3-day cruises to the Bahamas with ports of call in Nassau and Great Stirrup Cay.

Before you book

Why sail on Norwegian Sky: As one of Norwegian’s smallest ships, Sky should appeal to travelers who enjoy the intimacy of a smaller vessel and like to form connections with fellow passengers. The ship’s shorter itineraries may also appeal to busy cruisers looking for a tropical weekend getaway.

You should know: Norwegian Sky is one of the cruise line’s smallest ships. Travelers looking for the variety of dining, activity, and entertainment options available on a large ship won’t find them here and may prefer one of the fleet’s mega-ships such as Norwegian Encore or Norweigan Bliss.

Great Itinerary on a Ship That Needs to be Retired by mbalcerak

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky

We enjoyed the itinerary but needed more time in most ports. However, if this had been our first NCL cruise, we would not cruise NCL again. The Sky is too outdated and needs to be retired. We paid for the unlimited drink package but found no value, as the bars were closed more than they were open. The Entertainment was very disappointing from our previous NCL cruise experiences. The stateroom was not worth the money. We were trying to enjoy the Observation Lounge each afternoon upon our return from port but several times we were asked to leave for a private event. And the ceiling in the Observation Lounge was leaking on one side, so they had to close it off a couple of times and ask us to relocate. The Garden Cafe selection was disappointing and the hours were too limiting, especially considering most guests returned from port around 4pm or 5pm looking for a snack. The Outdoor Garden Cafe was open but it was always the same thing: hot dogs, burgers and really gross sandwiches. Not much selection at all and most of it not edible. The Outdoor Cafe and Local bars weren't open until 6pm and most of the time even then they did not open on time. Most disappointing experience we have had on NCL.

Great weather on an early season Canada/New England Cruise by drjknox

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky

We used NCL Air arrangements. All went well until the day before departure, when NCL moved our return from YQB-EWR-FLL to YQB-YUL-FLL. We had upgraded seats on original schedule, change to new airline and route caused loss of upgrades, but United kept telling us to check into the original flights. Working with United to get refund on upgraded original schedule. Trouble checking in with PAL and connection to AC in Quebec, Montreal didn't accept boarding passes issued in YQB, finally was able to download AC tickets to wallet which AC accepted in Montreal. 3 gate changes and delays in Montreal.

The weather was perfect. The ocean was very calm—smoothest of the 11 ocean cruises that I have ever taken. The ship, Sky, was small. The balcony room was cramped—hard for even 2 people to move around without bumping into each other.. by magichc

My wife was served half-a-grapefruit in one of the restaurants with a large moldy spot. No one even noticed until it was brought to their attention. Very poor quality control. I wrote a complain, but never got a reply.

1097 Norwegian Sky tips

We found a little gem on Deck 11 in Il Adagio for breakfast. They serve made to order omelets, and waffles. It's quiet and there wasn't much of a line. It was quaint, and not a lot of people went up there to eat. Most people hit the buffet for breakfast.
