Review summary

I enjoyed the cruise and activities and would highly recommend it to others. I would even consider doing it again some time in the future. Just would need to remember to take a few more warmer clothing options.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
It was very efficient and easy -- it was good having a time to check in rather than showing up with a number of folks with no specific time.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
All the dining facilities were great. The only issue I had was that they closed early even on the nights that passengers had late off-shore events and returned to the ship late. One restaurant had to accommodate a number of people at the same time.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Visited the spa. My grandsons used the soccer/basketball area; bowling was fun. We also took advantage of the card/game room. Was too cold for us to use the pool -- wish there was an indoor poor. We did take advantage of the shows in the Stardust Theater and enjoyed them.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We greatly enjoyed the stage shows. I particularly enjoyed the show on the last night when many of the crew members came on stage. It was great to recognize them and their hard work.

Children's Programs

We signed up, but the boys never wanted to participate.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All the service staff were terrific. Very friendly and accommodating.

Ship Quality

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
My cabinet was comfortable and clean. Maybe next time I will do a balcony of oceanview. But regardless, I was pleased.

Ship tip

When you can, take advantage of some of the specialty restaurants. Well worth the money.

Ports of call

Seattle, Washington

No excursion; we did things on our own.

Juneau, Alaska

5 out of 5
Enjoyed the whale watching.

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
We did the Klondike Family Experience and it was fun. We were unable to get on the excursion for riding on the dog sleds, but did get to at least see them on the excursion we did.

Ketchikan, Alaska

5 out of 5
We did not do an excursion, but visited the discovery center and enjoyed that very much.

Victoria, British Columbia

5 out of 5
The Butchart Gardens were beautiful. Unfortunately, the timing for the tour does not provide sufficient opportunity to see it all. We were fortunate, however, to be there for the fantastic fireworks. This would be worth a future visit.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
It was done with ease. It was very useful to take advantage of the Port Valet -- checking in our luggage and getting the boarding passes. Made it much easier to hang out in Seattle upon our return until a very late flight (after 10 pm).

What is the Klondike Family Experience? I have visions of the kids, grand-kids and me surrounded by piles of those delicious chocolaty ice cream squares. Perfect for an Alaska cruise, you can even bake 'em. How was it sailing out the Pacific Northwest? I've never done it and doubt I will but...I do like fresh salmon. Fresh salmon and cold water are not found in the Caribbean, my stomping grounds. I love the Pearl, almost enough to go to Alaska. I'm curious how the ship is now, compared to last year's Panama Canal cruise.
