Review summary

We have been on a number of Norwegian cruises and like the cruise line overall but this was our least favorite cruise. Menu selection for the complimentary restaurants and the fitness center were areas for improvement and better organization for the embarkation process is a must.

Embarkation

1 out of 5
Terrible embarkation - experience started out in a big cold tent that should have had a few heaters. Very disorganized and hectic and the process seemed to take forever with no real direction from the staff at the tent. We arrived from the airport to the embarkation area at 8:30 am and didn’t get to board the ship until after 12:30pm

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Specialty restaurants were very good as usual but the other ones - taste, savor and Manhattan room were lacking this trip. The steak quality was bad and the meat was tough and chewy - other meals were ok and not as good as some of the other Norwegian cruise ships we have been on.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Vibe was great and staff was great - wine tasting was fun. And our kids enjoyed the race track and other activities they did.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The shows were in my opinion very bad - they seemed like high school productions with out of tune singing and out of sync dancing - the elements show had great costumes but that was about it. The comedy club was good and the Beatles in the cavern club were entertaining.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Staff was great and accommodating - our cruise was over Christmas and everyone we encountered was pleasant and nice.

Ship Quality

1 out of 5
Ship was clean and layout was good. We were very disappointed with the size and layout of the fitness center - for the size of the ship it was very inadequate and small. It lacked equipment and should be expanded and redesigned with a better and larger selection of weight equipment and more ellipticals and bikes.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Cabin was clean and no complaints - bathroom was a good size and Jimmy our cabin steward was nice and attentive.

Ship tip

Might be worth paying extra for priority boarding based on the departure port

Ports of call

San Pedro (Los Angeles), California

2 out of 5
They changed our port last minute and we left from the outer pier - nothing was around there to do and we had to sit and wait in a tent.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

5 out of 5
The tender process was terrible and took a long time to leave the boat and although we had a good time in Cabo returning to the ship was horrible - the line to get onto a tender to return took over an hour and a half.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

1 out of 5

Mazatlan, Mexico

3 out of 5

Ensenada, Mexico

1 out of 5
Port was ok and buses that took you from port to location for excursions was nice but city was Dirty and the excursion we went on was terrible and not much to do here

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
Much better than the embarkation
