Had booked smaller ship, 2000 people, Norwegian put ship in for rehab, was switched to Joy, 3800 people. Just too big, too many people, lines and noise.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Smart to have assigned boarding times with that many people
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
We ate at complimentary restaurants. Didn't want to pay more for specialty ones. Not a fan of buffets. Was looking forward to salmon, but all fish over done.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
In our 60's not interested in race track, laser tag, etc geared toward children. Pool nice & well kept. Hint for quiet head for observation deck.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Shows good, comedians great, entertainers enthusiastic. With that many cruisers make sure to make reservations for everything!
Children's Programs
no kids
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Service people worked hard and very pleasant.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
For the amount of people service people were always there taking care.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
The extra room was nice and amazingly quiet, except people slamming doors at all hours. Our steward, Noel Miniones, was on the ball and pleasant.
Ship tip
Make reservations for everything, be prepared for crowds & noise. Bring ear plugs. Wonder what the decibals were?
Very commercialized, but guess people want their souvenirs. Did jeep ride, canoe & "salmon bake". Tour people very organized and nice. 20 people canoe not 2 man like brochure and salmon bake was a salmon spread on bread, clam chowder was just broth no clams or potatoes in mine.
Lots souvenirs. Tour guide, Tara, lots of info, funny and nice. Mendenhall glacier actually sad receding so fast. In 30 yrs you won't be able to see it from that spot any more. Tram very disappointing. Waste of time, long lines.
Beautiful town. Took a bus tour. Hint take a taxi to The Empress, only $10. one way. We split with other couples. Shuttle $15.95 round trip, long lines.
Well organized, color coded. Take advantage of the FREE luggage pick up from room to your flight. We just took the shuttle through ship for $20. a piece.
We've found things we like better with both the smaller vs larger ships. For us, anyway, the 'density' of people wasn't much different except during embarkation and debarkation.
In the end, any cruise is what you make it and I'm glad you enjoyed yours, even with the change of ship.
