For those who want to know more about the towns/ports of call and the history of Alaska, I recommend seminars, Q/A or at least a handout in advance of each port arrival. The main emphasis of the cruise seems to be on the dining/food and cruise evening shows- we could be anywhere in the world. We wanted more information about the history of Alaska and the people who live there. All we received were excursion lists and a map of where I could shop in town.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
No lines, very organized steps to enter the cruise ship- better than we expected
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Buffets were fine for breakfast- although the room felt like a college dorm dining room. Specialty restaurants were quieter, better choices, although my fish main course on the third day was set aside- not good and not eaten.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Went to Yoga three times. The Q/A with Captain, CTO and Manager/Rumi, was well organized, informative and we would have liked this type of seminar earlier in the cruise. We also enjoyed the technical seminar about the ship led by Dan. We also played shuffleboard, listened to music by the pool as well as on Level 6.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
Went to hear comedian... he was okay
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Jeofrey was our Steward on Level 11. He was outstanding and we submitted his name for a hero award. Joel in the dining room was helpful and Keisha in Fitness Center (yoga) wa also personable and a good instructor.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
No point of comparison, but the ship looked very clean and up to date
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Clean, comfortable- pleased to see a clothesline in the shower, happy to have laundry service
Amazing- would like to know more about the history of the glacier and the impact of warmer temperatures compared to prior years of cruise ships entering the area
Disorganized. We almost missed the whale watch because the guide from the bear watch gave us blue tickets with a handwritten 2:30 PM departure time for the whale watch and the boat left at 2 PM
Cruising the inner passage between Skagway and Ketchikan was great. We wish we could have seen more of the narrowest portion of the passage but we entered after dark.
If you want to know more about the history of Alaska and it's people, I suggest studying up about it before you go. Get a book or watch a documentary. Then when you go, take some excursions to what you learned about. The ship may or may not provide the education materials you like so take an active role in learning.
