Review summary

We finally took our Alaskan cruise and it was ... pretty good. Not wonderful, not horrible, just okay. In retrospect, I wish someone had told us that Alaska began its rainy, foggy season in the fall. Extremely temperate weather with a heavy coat needed only once or twice, but definitely rain gear was imperative. We also hit a major storm with 10 - 12 foot swells, causing us to change our route and miss the last of 4 ports. It happens. The excursions were plentiful and ours (we are older) were perfectly suited to us. I talked to other younger passengers who did the zip lines, etc, and they were pleased. The cruise line was excellent - we were on the Norwegian Jewel. Good food, great service, and a lot of friendly fellow travelers. In the beginning, we ran late due to a connection in Salt Lake that had a mechanical problem. The cruise line sent a bus for us (and 9 others) when we arrived in Seattle and got us to the ship on time. Thanks, Norwegian!

Ship tip

We ate the breakfast buffet on deck 12 every day - excellent food and no wait! It was freestyle (your own time) in the dining room, so similar to waiting at a restaurant. On the evenings we ate in the dining room, we went early and never waited in line.

Ok, interesting. I guess that is the upside of cruising Alaska in September - less kids. In August, there would have been a lot more kids..but weather may have been better.

Very few children at all.. however, the ones I did see were quite well behaved and seemed to be well supervised.

Were there lots of kids on your sailing?
