This is a fun boat with lots of options.
Pros:
* Great Staff
* Great performances
* lots of stuff to do
Cons
* Really for experienced Cruisers
* newbies need to do a lot of planning to get a good experience.
* guest to staff ratio was way off ( not enough staff )
Embarkation
3 out of 5
I had some problems with the android app (which wold coninue throughout the trip), but once I spoke with customer services and actual humans, the proccess was much better. The boat itself seemed not ready for customers, everone had was suposed to wait in public areas, but the guest rooms were no closed off, app was not reserving things until after she left port, lots of chaos until eberyone was able to put thier bags and coats into rooms.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Service here was very good, the quality was a bit dry and over cooked for my liking, but I think that is expected given the variety of guests. My man advice is to go over the different dining options with customer service well before embarkation day. If you don't know the ship, you make bad assumptions without talking to customer service first.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
there were pools and water slides,but they were dominated by young-adults and children. The adults only in the back was really useful the families claimed all the normal deck chairs and then went swimming.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
The main stage acts that I managed to get into were very good. Las Vegas strip level performances. But again here, you may not know which acts are 'reserve pre-boarding' and which are 'skip dinner to wait in line' until you talk to customer service or an agent. Every night had a 'good show' and if you missed, you could not get to the show later on. The flip side of that is that there was a variety of shows. If you caught them all, you were happy you skipped dinner for the shows!
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
All the individual servers were very good. The issue is the ship was under staffed. Long waits for service unless you searched for a person, and when you did there was a crowd to push through. Once you got your server, etc.. That person did very well. So 5 stars for the people and 3 stars for not enough of them.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
The staff that was on the boat did a good job keeping things sanitary 2nd day on. Again the issue is that the staff to quest ration was off. So your room was cleaned well, but you may have to wait until 6pm. Staff was clearing the drinks, but trays were too full to take an order, you had to find a barman. Day one was a totally different issue, boat was not ready for guests, and boat was well underway before she was ship-shape.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
If you are Solo, Booking the Solo cabins with the solo lounge is the best thing you can do. Room is set up well for a solo traveler, the Solo lounge was a great place to find other solos, and the Solo Lounge Barman was able to be bar man, keep yo informed about the ships, and schedules, etc...
Ship tip
If you have not sailed Getaway before, go over all the events and dining with an agent or customer service well before you board. you need to pre-plan things like, which places to stand in line, and when. The schedules do not line up like a 'normal' cruise, so one wrong mistake and you can be stuck with no where to go all evening..
NYC, lots of stuff to do at the port. but then you board, you anchored to a dirty boat with all your stuff, and all you can do is look out at other people actually doing stuff.
Bermuda is great, but it takes you a while get to the downtown area with all the 'stuff'. Great beaches, colorful downtown buildings, and my tour guide had great background on the islands.
This is a place that needs a morning tour, then you go off exploring. Unfortunately there was not time to do both. My tour guide was great, and maybe next trip I can just do he exploring part.
I left really early, so my main issue was fighting for an elevator. This process could really be helped with a more structured exit (x numberof cabins leave per 30mins, etc..). It felt like you had to be one of the first few cabins of or you were going to be stuck in a cuiser-jam for hours carrying your luggage.
