Definitely wouldn’t sail on the Getaway again. Great scenery, especially the Norwegian Fjords.

Food and Dining

Food in the specialty restaurants and main dining rooms was excellent. O’Sheehan’s was hit and miss and the Garden Cafe Buffet was bland and horrible.

Onboard Activities

For such a big ship at times there wasn’t much to do that interested us. It would have been better if it had an observation lounge like the Spinniker Lounge on the Jewel.

Entertainment

We were on the Getaway in October 2015 and much of the entertainment in the theatre is the same. Thankfully Syd Norman’s Pour House (formally Fat Cats I think) had a great band playing 70’ and 80’s music so we ended up there most nights.

Service and Staff

Apart from the woman at the Cruise Next desk the staff were very friendly and helpful. Occasionally we came across a rude bartender. Whilst on board we visited the Cruise Next desk and were told that there was an offer for a limited time that if you purchased Cruise Next deposits within the next couple of days you could use two deposits per person when booking future cruises. We asked the woman at the desk to clarify this and she assured us that this was the case. The next day we went back to the desk and purchased four deposits and asked her if we could use then all when booking an Australia/ NZ cruise on the Jewel in February 2020. Once again she assured us that this was a special offer and we could use all four. Well today we booked our cruise through our travel agent and she contacted NCL about using 2 deposits each and they were adamant that we could only use one each. I know the conditions state that only one per passenger can be used but we were assured that this offer was “special”. Obviously we were lied to.

No complaints. Clean and comfortable.

Ship tip

Just my opinion but the ship is too big and crowded. Went on the Jewel earlier in the year and enjoyed it much more. Think we’ll stick to the smaller ships.

I believe all Norwegian are freestyle.

We went on the Getaway in 2014 when it was new and didn’t have the free style dining. We really enjoyed it and had a great time but I don’t think I would enjoy it now. It does get some great reviews but not a fan of freestyle dining. Is all Norwegian freestyle?

I cruised on the Norwegian Getaway in August of 2018 and I feel the same way. My husband and I never could get near the pool. All the parents had their children in the adult pool. Norwegian does not enforce the adult only policy. Plus way too many people. Enjoy the smaller ships. Have cruised Holland America Eurodam and loved it. Going on Norwegian Pearl in October. Smaller ship.
