Review summary

Onboard entertainment was excellent, the four ports of call were exactly what we were looking for - exotic, safe and beautiful.  We wish we knew about the service charges at the "free" dining spots and the daily room service charge which were unexpected charges.

Room was more spacious than expected, shower was great. It was a long way to walk from the stairs and elevators, but that is why they are the least expensive cabins.

Ship tip

Be aware of the service charges at the so called "free" dining optiions and of the daily room cleaning service charge. These service charges add up quickly when unexpected and on a budget.

We rented a vehicle at the port and hired a local guide which turned out to be great. We were happy we hired the guide as he was very good and helped with the crazy driving on the island.

Belize City, Belize

Excusrion to a caye to snorkel was fantastic.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

Using a local tour guide service at the port was the way to go. Cost was $20 per person versus $90 per person on many excursion sites.

Cozumel, Mexico

Dolphin experience was phenominal. Pay for the two dolphin swimming experience.

I've never had the experience (yet) of the constant up-sell. I know what to expect with specialty drinks, shopping, and certain aspects, but have noticed things like popcorn for movies are $2 (really...) and they try and sell the spa products or booking a spa/specialty restaurant with deals... but that's also expected (and I look for them actually!)

We had the beverage package and had prepaid tips. We Never tipped a bar tender during the cruise, but others did. They still knew our favorite drinks when we came to the bar each night.

I had the drink package last year and I believe I only paid tax on the drinks and only while in port. I have it again this year so I'll see what happens. Already pre paid the daily fee. Purchasing On board credits help .

The charges should have been explained to you on your contract or by your travel agent. If you have cruised before you would have been made aware that that is the case. On each of the sites they explain there is a daily fee, which can be prepaid.  I am receiving a Beverage package for free next year , but I still have to pay the tips. Now I do not know if I will still have to pay on board for when the waiter brings me the drink, but I would not be surprised if that happens.

We often hear of the nickel and dime approach of the lines. Maybe we should start a discussion on that.
