Review summary

Everything was fantastic. This my 2nd NCL cruise and my husband's first. I think he's hooked. And now that we know about the FREE waterpark, we'll be going back to Puerta Plata.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
embarkation was so simple and the crew was so pleasant and wonderful.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The food was delish, as usual. Getting the free soda was ok. You had to stand in line at the bars and wait. Royal Caribbean has soda machines placed throughout the ship and they give you a special cup that only works on the machines (and you can take it home and use it too).

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
The hot tubs were overcrowded with kids. You couldn't get near one unless it was after 9pm. The pool was the same. It would have been nice to have a separate adults only place with hot tubs and pool.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The shows were ok. The comedian was just ok. She wasn't funny enough to watch twice. The singers/dancers were meh. The Diva Extravaganza was fantastic though. That gal can sing and is very funny!

Children's Programs

We don't have kids

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The service and staff can't be beat. I wished we'd gotten the waiters name in the theatre. He was hysterical!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The staff are always cleaning something. It was nice to see.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The room was very clean and comfortable. The shower was spacious for being an inside room. The toilet....well, you had to sit sideways. My husband is 6' 5" and his knees were hitting the wall. I'm 5' and I had the same problem. It's just in a weird layout, but really there's no other way to put it in there.

Ship tip

If you like to have a midnight snack in your room, make sure you get your treats at the Garden Cafe before they close at 9:30!

Ports of call

New York, New York

NY is home. It's no biggie.

Royal Naval Dockyard, West End, Bermuda

We did the glass bottom boat/snorkel excursion. The water was chilly but so beautiful we just jumped right in.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

We were here on Easter Sunday. The stores were still open, which was a lovely surprise. We did the Trolly Train excursion. The tour guide was funny and engaging. I would recommend this for everyone. You really see a lot of the island.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

We decided last minute to do a "Tim Tour". He was fantastic! We went to all the places to get the perfect postcard photos, shopping, etc. He even pulled over and told us about weeds/flowers/basil that was growing along the road.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

The port was nice, but uneventful.

Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

We really screwed up here! Did you know there's a FREE waterpark just feet from the port? It's FREE to cruisers. There's places to sit, shop, eat/drink and, did I mention the FREE WATERPARK?? We didn't know and ended up on a "3 hour bus tour" that was really a 2 1/2 hour WALKING tour. I don't recommend. While it was educational about the mineral amber, it was a lot of walking with stairs and more walking. 0 stars...do not recommend.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
disembarkation was the easiest I've ever experienced.
