Review summary

I won't cruise on the Gem ever again...loved the Escape cruising next on the Encore with my 96 year old mother who need a scooter and we already can't get a handicap cabin...hence my concern about Norwegian caring about seniors

Embarkation

It was the most horrible experience of my life. we waited at least 5 hours with a toddler and myself a senior with severe arthritis of the hip and spine in a freezing cold pier along with other handicap people, people with oxygen and there were not even enough seats for everyone. And Norwegian did not even care like someone said the already have your money. They didn't even offer you a hot drink they said it's a coffee machine where you could buy a drink are you kidding me

Cleanliness is excellent

Cabin / Stateroom

Pull out bed on the floor is ridiculous you can't get out of the bed. you have lots of senior on these cruises. It appears that Norwegian does not care about seniors at all

Ship tip

If you're a senior think twice about sailing on Norwegian look for another cruise line with better care about seniors and people with disabilities

I want to hear from NCL not from the peanut gallery

In a handicapped senior in an electric Wheelchair. I've always contacted the Handicapped folks and always got a handicapped accessible cabin, but i don't wait until the last minute. If you Have ANY special needs, before booking, talk directly to an agent at NCL to be sure they can accommodate t you. I can understand your frustration but i suspect you could have made better arrangements if you dealt with an agent, or be aware you would have some difficulty. I do agree the handicapped waiting area set demarcation in NYC leaves a great deal to be desired.

There are lots of seniors on NCL ships, in wheelchairs, on scooters, with canes. There are also lots of handicap accessible rooms if you look at deck plans. If you ever book again with NCL then you should go thru customer service, they also have a special needs department dedicated to customers with special needs.

An I understanding this correctly? You’re upset because NCL doesn’t have any handicapped staterooms available? It’s somehow their fault that they’re all booked?
