Cruise left a day late, Norwegian did little to help customers waiting in NY. Ships. food, staff, entertainment etc. all were average. Ship is old but clean. Ports of call were best part. I'll not take Gem again. Unimpressed
Embarkation
1 out of 5
AWFUL ship arrived a day late, and those waiting on the pier where told to leave pier by 4pm which left 2000 people scambling for a place to stay overnight in NYC. Norwegian did little to help the situation.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
The food was very average, and menues did not change much in the main dinning rooms. If you had food allergies be prepared to be sick, They had me spend an hour every day waiting to talk to thier representative as to what I could eat on the menue for the day, then when I went to dinner, They said they could not get what was agreed to. or made mistakes and brought things that I could not eat. Twice I was brought and ate of things I thought were correct, only to find after tasting that they had brought me things I told them I could not eat.
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
This ship had the lamest free activites of any cruise I have ever been on, all better activites cost $20+ per person. Be prepared to read a book alot.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
Here is where the B team of Circus/Las Vegas / & Broadway finds work. Acts run from awful to pretty good, with nothing being spectacular.
Children's Programs
We did not have any children with us, although people who did have children said the program was great.
Service and Staff
3 out of 5
The staff was ok, but at times did not complete task that needed to be done, An example of this is twice they served every one and totally forgot to bring out my meal and did not come back to discover this until everone else was done.
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
They did a good job of keeping the ship clean, but the layout of the ship was not good. The dnning areas were not easy to find or access.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
This cabin was small but nicely done. It has a view 70% blocked by a life boat, but you can actually see the water a bit, and it's nice to have daylight in the cabin.
We took one of the off ship shuttle services to pigion Bay, a nice beach with refreshmant stands, bathroom cost $1 but there is one, It is in between a Sandles resort and a state park. Be prepared to pay for a chair and a shared umbrella.
Dilapedated old city, we took the beach excursion package from the ship, only to find we could have walked there for nothing. Beach was nice, and the boat to take you to the turtles was $10 extra but well worth it!
Pretty beaches, shuttle buses easy to take and affordable. You could save 50% over the Norwegian package deals by taking one of the local services, but you will have to pay if you want an umbrella and chair.
Cleanest of the Islands we visited, took the shuttle to megans bay, a beautiful beach ^ dollar entry fee to the beach.. Has free picknick benches, bathoom, and shade areas.
They were supposed to disembark by a color code which they used for the first color, then they had everyone sit for an hour, and then let us else go all at once.
