I would on;y do this cruise if you are looking for a bargain and new places to explore. Would not need to do it more then once. Overall we had a nice trip and enjoyed it for a great bargain.
Embarkation
3 out of 5
When we first came aboard the only area of the boat we could use was the buffet area and the seating area was very crowded and was hard finding a seat to sit down. Needed to open a dinning area to accomadate all the arriving passangers.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
For the Sail Away Package The food was ok. Nothing special but was a little bland and generic. No specialty dishes, Would have liked more seafood (lobster, clams, scallops) since we were in area that was know for their shell fish seafood.
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
It was a cold area cruise so we were not able to use the outdoor activities. I think they needed to have entertainment during the at sea days during the day. It seemed boring on the ship at sea with not a lot of excitement going on. With a ship with older clientele on board for the type of cruise it was they activities were lacking. We did enjoy the chocolate and wine pairing tastings and the martini and mojito tastings also. Very entertaining and knowledgeable.
Entertainment
2 out of 5
We went to most of the stage shows and found they were not very good entertainment. The only one our group enjoyed was the comedian. He was very good and we also went to his lounge performance. The piano player did not have a very good voice and didn't enjoy listening to him. The music group was ok to listen to.
Children's Programs
Service and Staff
3 out of 5
The service would be average. Nothing over the top for the dinning rooms. The room stewards did their job and did do some towel creations for us at night. The whiskey bar and martini area bar had very good staff and we enjoyed this area very much. The staff there was very friendly and always ready to serve.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
It was a smaller, older boat but it was clean. The buffet area was not a good layout. The seating areas where very small and you had to hunt for a seat and they could be very faraway from the buffet. Would have been nice to have seating around the buffet instead of on a long side of it.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
Never really knew who our cabin steward was. The room was what I exspected and the it was kept clean. The bathroom area was a decent size but the toilet area did not give any leg room for using the toilet.
Ship tip
You get what you pay for. I would do it again but I would have been disappointed if I had paid for thecruise without the discounted and Sail Away deal.
Enjoyed our visit to St. John. We went on a bus tour and to the caves. Interesting area with the tide coming in and out. Had clam chowder soup at a place by the caves and it was very good. Between the lower tide and the high tide it was nice to see the area and caves.
We passed Bar Harbor and went to St John first. Then we went back to Bar Harbor but because we had to go through customs for the US because we left the county and went to Canada first it took a very long confussing time to get threw customs. We had very little time in Bar Harbor after getting through customs. We decided not to take a tour and just walked aroung the little town area. Lots of shops for souvenirs. Had a piece of blueberry pie and small scoup of ice cream at a little place on main road. it was the best. Would have liked a longer time here and get a chance to go to the National Park.
Had a very nice sea board walk. Lots to see and do. We took a segway tour and really enjoyed it. First time for all of us and we all loved it. Our ages are 60 thru 70 years old and everyone did great.
Not much to do in the downtown area. Walking tour for a museum and churches. The shopping area was small. Didn't stay at port for long. Looks like it is trying to make a start of a new port.
Took a bus tour of the area and Anne of Green Gables. I was not formiliar with Anne of Green Gables but others in our group were and really enjoyed it. Stopped at Preserve Co. and found it to be very interesting of the owner and his story of how he got started.
It was a very nice welcoming port with lots of interesting things about the way things used to be. Adults and children dressed in period costumes, indian costume with a TP, fire pit, wood cutting, blueberry slices of pie and warm maple syrup suckers that they handed out. Really enjoyed getting off at this port. The small shopping area was of very nice quality items. Lots of unique crafts. Not much of a downtown area or shopping. We wanted to do something on our own but they were not prepared for lots of people. The tour, rental cars and taxis were sold out. They had a hop on hop off bus but it didn't have many stops and most were to museums that had a charge of 12 -15 dollars each.
Stayed an extra day in this port and really enjoyed the old town area. Lots of streets to walk thru with an old town feeling. Took the Funicular up to the top of the city and walked down. Went to Montmorency Falls and had a very nice time. Very beautiful with lots of walking. Taxis were had to find so we had to Uber places or you had to call for a cab.
Everything went very smooth until after we picked up our luggage. Unles you had made arrangments before you had no choices to get someplace. The taxi line was very long and not many taxis. We ended up calling Uber and getting a ride very quickly from them.
I really don't understand cruises to New England in the fall. Its gonna be cold. For fall foliage you really want to be in the mountains aka, the opposite of the ocean.
