Review summary
There is nothing I really liked on this cruise.Food is ordinary, shows are awful , embarkation and disembarkation in New York was a torture(we have been waiting for check-in for 2 hours in line ! The "City Tour " in San Juan was just OK.It does not worth $46 we paid pp.But the diving excursion in St.Maarten was excellent ! The cabin(inside) was really small .But we liked the bathroom.The restaurants with fee were not impressive too(except Teppanyaki).This cruise was very low key,more on the cheap side.You know the difference between 5 stars and 3 stars hotels.So this was 3* Hotel vacation. I tried really hard to like it,but....no.I don't recommend it . Spend your money better on different cruise line
This is the food in buffet on New Year Eve .And plus they prepared pizza.Common NCL ! This is not even funny!!!!

Restaurants are not that good.Very strange ship design.The Stardust theater is excellent ,but the entertainers and shows are really bad.For the Christmas and New Year Eve the food everywhere on ship was a JOKE!!!Forget about seafood!!!Beware of the thermospa ! You have to fight for the chairs!

It is not just the GEM, it is NCL. I catch a lot of flack because I say the food on NCL is the worst I have had on any ship and the MDR service is the worst I have had on any line I have cruised with. Lot's of people complain about the food in the free dining rooms and the service.
I hope your next cruise is better and on a different line.
