Review summary

This was a Covid canceled trip so we had been dreaming of this for 3+ years. It exceeded expectations!

Embarkation

Easy easy easy! I expected chaos and long lines with Covid tests, but they had a system and we were on board within 30 minutes.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Maybe just one “eh” meal in the main dining room, but 5 stars overall. Le Bistro, Teppanyaki, Cagney’s: all delicious! Great selection at the buffet in the morning. Lunch was usually ashore.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
I didn’t participate in much except the ropes course, but that was fun! Be warned, it is WINDY on the top. That’s what made me nervous. We did sit poolside, great entertainment, drinks, and people watching.

Entertainment

Choir of Man - AWESOME! The black light show (I can’t remember the name) - GREAT! The acrobatics? Eh. Howl at the Moon - a hoot! Bamboozled - fun!

Cabin / Stateroom

Perfect size for us, ample storage.

Ship tip

Unpack on day one. There is lots of storage and it helps. Hit the big shows early on your trip. We thought we could catch a couple things later and they were no longer offered.

Ports of call

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

Was only here to board.

Santorini, Greece

It was lovely, but crowded at the dock until you can fight through the crowd to get away. We hired a cab and went to Oia. We found a nice little spot for a couple glasses of wine and a delicious Greek meal.

Piraeus (Athens), Greece

The Hop On Hop Off is right outside the terminal and was PERFECT! Get off early and go straight to The Acropolis. It will already be busy, but you’ll beat some of the crowds and lots of the heat. We jumped back on the hoho, got off to see the Olympic stadium then walked to Plaka, which was so much fun!

Mykonos, Greece

We rented scooters which was very brave and fun! Little Venice is nice, but super touristy.

Corfu, Greece

DO NOT BOOK THE HOHO THROUGH NCL!! The regular Joe’s use the same bus for a fraction of the cost. Buy your ticket at the terminal.

Valletta, Malta

5 out of 5
Possibly our favorite. The HOHO is kind of a s*** show and maybe not worth it except for seeing Mdina, which is incredible! Off the ship and across the street is an elevator, 1 € and you’re in the most amazing place. Explore Valletta, you will love it!

Messina, Sicily

We did a private street food tour and had a great time. Don’t miss the bell tower at noon. A walk up the stairs after the show is definitely worth it.

Naples, Italy

We did Pompeii. Pompeii itself was cool, the vendors are sketchy. Check your audio set ahead of time, mine shattered after #1 and they wouldn’t refund my money. Accused me of breaking it.

Disembarkation

I’m trying to understand the luggage tags, they pick up your bags and take them downstairs so you can pick them up? I thought they would load it on my transfer. Oh well. It was quick.
