Review summary

This cruise was amazing, the ship, the literary, the crew, were all great! Were there glitches? Sure! Did that ruin our cruise? Absolutely NOT! The embarkation was the first for this ship out of the Port of Rome, the folks doing the work were not ready, We still got on the ship by noon. Someone got sick, the Captain turned around the first night to get that passenger to medical attention. We missed a port. That also did not ruin the trip. Every journey has its unexpected turns. None of them took away from our cruise.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
I gave it a 5 because even though the folks on shore were confused and created chaos with their inexperience, we boarded at noon; which is okay. NCL may need to retrain the contractor so that does not keep happening in the future.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The best food at sea! Even O'Sheehan's had a prime rib night the last night of the cruise. We ate at both specialty and complimentary restaurants and were never disappointed.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
One of the best things about Free-Style Cruising is you can do as much or as little as you want. We spent time in the fitness center, spa, casino, and sometimes just sitting in the Atrium.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Choir of Man is the best show I have ever seen! Music around the ship was diverse and well done, if you didn't Latin in Skyline, go to Andy in the Brewhouse.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
I wish Norwegian would buy an airline so we would have this excellent customer service on airlines as well. One night we commented we loved the bread at Manhattan Room, next morning we found our waiter, Juli had sent some to our cabin. Another night we complimented Tarrance, the Assistant manager of La Cucina, on the cannoli's, he too sent some to our cabin. We met the General Manager Kvanc, we told him of the chaos at embarkation, we received a plate of chocolates in our cabin.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Beautiful, easy to navigate vessel. To talk about cleanliness, on the last morning at breakfast in Savor we saw crew polishing the wood paneling.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We had a Spa Balcony, that was clean and had plenty of room, and more storage area than we needed. We had several stewards, Benji, Linda, and Cason, due to vacations, and all did a great job.

Ship tip

Book everything you can before you leave, you can adjust once sailing but it is better to have reservations. Then first thing on the ship is find where they are taking reservations for shows and dinners, go there and do that.

Ports of call

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

Stayed in Hotel Traghetto the day before departure. Giuseppe (desk clerk) tipped us off to coffee houses and restaurants.. We sat in a square and watch some local children play soccer, met some other travels, and had an amazing dinner at Cibus Hostaria Romana,

Piraeus (Athens), Greece

5 out of 5
Busy but what do you expect? Guide was great pointing out sites and regaling us with stories of ancient Greece.

Mykonos, Greece

3 out of 5
Disappointed not in the excursion or the guide, but in the place. With all the hype we thought Mykonos would be a highlight, instead it was boring in its sameness.

Corfu, Greece

5 out of 5
Corfu was beautiful, mountainous and green. We stopped at a Kum Quat distillery and a coffee and ice cream shop on top of a mountain, beautiful AND delicious.

Valletta, Malta

5 out of 5
What a delight! We originally were going elsewhere but were changed to Malta before we left. We saw highlights and had wine at an estate winery, wonderful.

Messina, Sicily

5 out of 5
We did not go to Pompeii, instead opting to visit Mount Etna, which had been erupting recently. We saw a lava flow and had wine and snacks at a family winery on the side of the mountain.

Naples, Italy

5 out of 5
Busiest excursion of the trip, so much to see! We toured a Limoncello factory, saw views of Sorrento, walked around Sorrento, toured Naples, had a pizza lunch, toured the coast where the villas are, It was packed, and our guide Marteous was funny and knowledgeable.

Livorno (Florence & Pisa), Italy

5 out of 5
Beautiful ride through Tuscany and toured an estate winery where we also had snacks and a wine tasting.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Could not have been easier.
