Review summary

I would give 0 stars if available, not because the cruise was bad but because of the way the treat you when there is a short coming at the trip. We booked a 10 Day Mediterranean Cruise for May 2022. We got Delayed in Birmingham Alabama because of a flat tire on the Airplane, and we missed our connection flight from Charlotte to Rom. Part of it was because the layover was to short and didn’t allow for any error. By the way NCL booked the flight. We got rerouted to fly the next day to Athens to catch up with the ship there 3 days later. We had to pay out of pocket for Taxi, Hotel Room and Meals for basically 2nights/3 days. We got on the ship 3 days later, meaning we only received 7 days of our 10-day cruise. We purchased a travel insurance from AON, and we got the maximum allowable refund for the Delay, which covered our out-of-pocket expenses, and only $200 were applied to the loss of the cost from the trip. I contacted Guest Experience Coordinator, which you can only online over a claim form, and you get an email back. I received an email telling me to get with AON, which I had explained that I already did. I responded back and explained that I did that, and I received a refund, but it does not cover most of the lost 3 days. Now I paid for upgraded Beverage package, upgraded WIFI, Guest services, Transfer from Rome airport to the port and of course the regular cost for the booked; and not received 3 days for a total of close to $3500.00. Applying the $ 200 still leaves me short of $3300. I tried several other avenues to speak to someone about this with no prevail. NCL didn’t even offer a Credit for the next cruise. If you ask me, don’t use NCL

Regardless of who is footing the bill, we always fly in the day before. Missing my cruise due to flight issues is my biggest fear. Also for those who may not know, NCL will absolutely fly you up to two days early for your cruise.

Our package with NCL, was free flight ….but we opted not to take it as it’s too close if somehow the flight was delayed etc and we would miss our cruise. We chose to pick our own flights, and we are flying down a week prior to the cruise. Not taking any chances for an expensive cruise to begin with.

Unfortunately NCL airfare doesn’t give you choices other lines like Celebrity do. You basically give up any choice, though I’m fairly sure you can still have them book you to arrive a day or two early. If you booked a cruise from an international destination with no margin for error that’s on you. You should build in a hotel for 1-2 nights as a planned expense for the cruise.

Oopppss CRUISE LINE BOOKED

Airline may have booked the flights, but on Celebrity and Princess I was able to select my airline of choice (Delta), the departure from SLC at the day/time I wanted, and the seat class I wanted (comfort+). Maybe I am lucky that the cruise lines I booked air through were ones that have customer service,.

Ok…sure …better planning would have helped, but as the cruise line booked the flights, they bear some responsibility for the missed days and loss of money. The cruise line should very well know the risks of such a tight connection, and should do better. People will return to a cruise line if they are treated with respect, not ignored.

How much more can the cruise line do? Your insurance covered what you paid for. Like it has been said, poor planning played a big part in this. Cruising may not be for you.

What’s the fine print regarding them having booked your airline tickets, and you being delayed by them?…would like to know. And as ASYoung said…always fly in minimum of one day prior ( regardless of what the cruiselines say)….and never sched a short connection time.

Lesson one, do not book airline thru cruise line, they use the cheapest flights

Sounds like cruising probably isn’t for you. Hopefully you had a good travel insurance policy if that covered some of your additional expenses.

Wow. That’s incredibly poor customer service. So sorry that was your experience

So not only did you do a last minute flight overseas (I would have made arrival for at least the day before) thus missing three days, but the ship stank, room was unlivable, entertainment sucked, food was not fit to slop hogs, and you barely made it home alive? WOW!
