The cojuna of the cruise shipping world by JohnF34

Sail date: / Traveled as:
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Comparing with Carnival staff, NCL's Epic were more up beat, knew how to say good morning and were abel to engage in conversation without fear of repraisals from supervisors. Supervisors not afraid to work along employees helping around seen that guests were satisfied with performance. The video of crew staff thanking the guest and urging to come back to cruise again with NCL. Affordable prices, hoping that with Allure of the seas coming on line in December 2010 NCL can make more affordable cruising on the Epic. The prices on the Oasis of the seas a bit too high for the middle class, although this is the (mother of all mother's in the cruising industry). If the inside cabins increases to $1,000 per occupancy NCL will loose guests, including the nations in which the ships make ports of calls (revenue)

This is a new ship and very beautiful. The special restatrant had excellent food. But the lobster in the Taste was horrible, other wise the food was great in the Garden Cafe and Matthan Room.

A "So-So" Cruise by Haroldm1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Caribbean

The Norwegian Epic is a new modern ship. It is quiet and well laid out with convenient elevators and stairways. However, our stateroom, a Family Balcony, which supposedly could have accomodated four was small and cramped for just my wife and myself. The curved sofa was uncomfortable and could only be sat on with any degree of comfort if one sits at either end. Lastly, the "open" bathroom was what I hated most. The small sink mounted in the bedroom allowed water to splash all over everything and it was an annoyance if the other party were trying to sleep. The sounds from the toilet and shower easily passed through the privacy curtain. No way will I ever choose this type stateroom again.

Sailed on the EPIC by MichaelB8

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Beautiful new ship...did not feel like 4000 passengers. Great things to do in the evening...loved the outdoor adult night club - Spice H20. Unfortunately, the ship's pools are VERY small....seemed odd to have such a large ship with over 4000 passengers and such little pools. Entertainment was good - Cirque and Legends. Would loved to have been informed about the biting flies at Costa Maya's "beach getaway". Staff was very friendly...would not recommend the spa. Food was better than any other ship I have been on!

Great time on the high seas! by LaurieC2

Sail date: /
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The Epic has something for everyone. The rooms are small and awkward but if you take advantage of all the ship has to offer you spend very little time in your cabin. The shower, sink and bathrooms are very poorly designed.

Smooth Sailing by TerryG5

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

My family has cruised before, but it was amazing being a passenger on board such a new vessel. Everything was clean, current and well organized. We loved being able to eat when and where we wanted, and took advantage of most of the entertainment options. Even the little things like the interactive maps at the elevators and the "wait time" chart for dining options were extremely helpful. My son loved the Recess kids' area so much that we had to beg him to stay with us for dinner some nights! Our travel agent recommended we arrive early on the first day, and we took advantage of that extra time to explore the entire ship. The exercise area was impressive in both the quantity and variety of equipment. I never thought I would spend part of my vacation at the gym, but running on the treadmill and looking out the floor to ceiling windows at the ocean was mesmerizing. Our best dining experience was at Moderno, but we found the food tasty and the service attentive at all the venues. Once we settled in to our balcony stateroom, it accommodated the three of us nicely. We just cant wait to do it all again!

Norwegian Epic - August 14 to 22 by JorgeM

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Some overall impressions of the NCL Epic from our family cruise 08/14 to 08/21: The cleanliness and condition of the public areas is quite good, as it should be on a newly launched ship. Hand sanitizers are ever present throughout the vessel. The exception here is the bathroom facilities in the vicinity of the pool and water slides, which often had terrible odors rendering them almost unusable. The ship itself is very large, not well proportioned, and not pleasing to look at. This became strikingly evident when we docked opposite the Disney Wonder in the Bahamas. The overall quality of food, restaurant variety, and dining times rated fairly high from most members of our 15-member family cruise party. Many optional restaurants are available to satisfy any food desire. Quality of furnishings in the stateroom is good and the comfort level is generally high, however many of our party did not like the placement or the design of the shower/bath or toilet compartments. In addition, the sink was found to be too small with the shape of faucet blocking most of the basin. Simply turning on the water would cause it to splash over the edge wetting anything left on the vanity near the sink. Very high marks in general from all members of our travel party for willingness and ability to help from the ship staff. Two notable exceptions to this were the manager of LeBistro restaurant who would not add an additional person to an existing reservation for 9, and somewhat rudely dismissed the request, and the ship photo staff who could not arrange a family portrait for 15 without incurring a $75.00 sitting fee. Many different venues for entertainment and activities should satisfy even the most demanding passenger.

The Epic Experience by ElenaV1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Terrific shows: Legends of rock, the circus show and the Blue Man Group were amazing. The food in the specialty restaurants is also very good; much much better than the Manhattan and the Taste Restaurants. Beware of Bingo; very expensive to play and the prizes are tiny.

Best Vacation! by MannyP

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This is only our second cruise. We loved this particular ship as it is so big and the program/shows they had during the cruise were excellent. We particularly liked the freestyling of dining options as you get to try the different cuisines every night. Also, the spa was just amazing and relaxing. We took advantage of it every day with a great package they have. At night, the party/dancing options were excellent as well. We enjoyed the dancing pretty much all the nights and they have different theme nights that makes it more fun. The service overall was excellent, everybody was very attentive to our needs. This ship is definitely at the top of my rating.

Good ship but NOT Great by JenA

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We got on the ship which was a very smoothe process and I was quite impressed. The staff was very friendly and helpful and we got our luggage quickly. I have been on 6 cruises and this was my 7th and first with NCL. I heard alot about the EPIC and traveled with my 6 month old daughter and parents and inlaws. We are not picky people but I must say this ship has its pros and cons. The ship is huge and decorated beautifully and the staff was AMAZING. The food is really good but gets old by the end of trip. However my problem is that NCL is misleading when it says that this ship has over 12 restaurants to eat at. ONLY 3 are free the rest are all 25.00 a person a night and you need to make reservations in advance or you will not get in. The entertainment is great but you do need to book in advance before the trip or you won't get in. Cirque was amazing as well as the comedy club and oter music shows. Cabins as you probably read are horribly structured. Way to small maybe ok if you are traveling with 2 people. But we were forced to purchase a 3 person room because of the baby and they are the same size as a 2 person room which is annoying and unfair and very expensive. It is a tight fit and the bathrooms and showers are see through and your sink is pretty much in the bedroom. No privacy at all. Pools are ok great for kids and the waterslides are fun but the Adult section is nice but the pool can maybe fit 10 people in it. Not even joking. Plus all the pools are about 85 degrees not refreshing at all. Bottom line ship is great for kids , Entertainment is great, Staff amazing, Cabins are way too small, Pools are way too small, and Not that many places to eat.

Almost Epic by junkyarddog

Ship: Norwegian Epic

The ship was full so there were some lines. A little patience goes a long way and most people were very polite. If there was line mdr try the other and there wasn't They opened a portable beer bar on the pool deck and it helped the congestion Food was good at all places we tried , a couple of the desserts and soups were amazing.

Great itinerary, meh cruise by bekahchica

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Epic

We were concerned about the Epic having heard of its quirky design. The cabin was actually fine and the least of our worries. The endless lines and crowds especially at bars and the huge cuts in entertainment turned out to be our biggest bummer. I'm glad this was a port intensive cruise as the ship experience itself lacked any "wow" factor.

Nice cruise, Crowded. by KingKamehameha

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Fun, but very crowded ship. Norwegian Epic was over 6000 persons with passengers and crew. Instead of relaxing, we had to compete for every activity. It felt as if every activity was a nickel and dime ploy to wrest money from the customers. We felt more like marks, than guests.

Most expensive & worst vacation by Hannahmariexoxo

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

I just got back from the 2022 Norwegian Epic Christmas cruise. This was the most expensive & worst vacation I’ve ever been on. They completely booked the ship. But did not have the staff or amenities to keep up with the guests. Embarkation took 4+ hours. They never addressed this or apologized. Instead we got a $10 credit on our account. Which won’t even buy you a nice drink. All we did on ship was wait in lines. The ship is not big enough for the amount of people they booked. Waited for the dining room, the buffet, the public bathrooms on the ship, get on & off the ship at ports, the bar, had to be on stand by for the shows. Being on ship was like being at Sam’s Club the day before Christmas. An absolute nightmare. They changed the show times and rebooked us without checking to see if we were available. Poor communication all around. The food was awful. My husband and I both got sick after having some fishy scallops. The food was bland and the dining room messed up our orders multiple times. When we complained about the food. No one apologized and the manager took no accountability. We had 5 port calls while on this cruise. They changed the times of all aboard and were awful about communicating when they changed the times. The app was useless and did not work. The pools were tiny and crowded. In the adult section of the pool there were only hot tubs. After being in the sun all day there was not where to cool off. Guest services did nothing to mitigate the problems. I have never had such disrespectful service. The staff looked miserable & did not want to be there. Shore Excursions, Box Office and most of the restaurants had horribly short and inconvenient hours. It was hard to get breakfast most days. I blame Norwegian for overbooking and not delivering the service they promised. Do not waste your time or money with this awful cruise line. This was my first cruise and will be my last.
