Big and beautiful means a larger dissapo by SuzanneW2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

The Epic is big and shiny and new, and I felt like I was paying for it! Seems like everything had an associated fee, and it really bothers me that to get specialty items at least one dinner(I.e. Lobster or crab) I have to pay extra. The food was just average everywhere else, internet was extremely expensive as were movie rentals. Cabin was smaller that other Norwegian balconies, overall it was a disappointment. Hostess yelled at other staff members right in front of us at cirque dreams and dinner.

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

we were very disappointed. we sailed on the norwegian dawn and so we tried this new one the epic. we think they made the ship larger to fit more stateroom the public spaces were the same as a smaller ship ..the design fo the state room was awful the steward had to go thru the bathroom to bring in a tray while i was in the shower there was no closet space and every time i went for coffee i hit my head on the cabinet this room was supposed to fit 4 people it didnt ...very disappointed

Higher expectations by KirstenB1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

We sailed NCL Epic out of Barcelona, Spain. The ports we visited were Florence, Rome, Naples, and Palma. Overall we enjoyed our cruise mostly because we traveled with our parents and enjoyed watching them enjoy themselves! I had expected more from such a new and large ship but was a bit disappointed. The cabins were tiny and we had a Family Balcony. I cannot imagine more than two people in our cabin! The food was average, a bit above hotel food in my opinion. There are too many extra charge restaurants which seemed to make the dining rooms crowded. The best food we had was in Rome while ashore. We only saw our room steward twice in 7 days. The shows were good, we enjoyed the 3 we attended. I would not seek another NCL cruise but if the time, ports and price were perfect I would cruise NCL again; now that I know what to expect!

Nice ship but entertainment needs improv by AS

Sail date: /

Entertainment is short except for Blue Man Group and quality not as good as other NCL ships that feature Jean Anne Ryan & Co. performers.

good time. good cruise by CarmenF1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

Ship was good and new. Had no issues checking in. Now, shore excursions bookings with Shoreexcursions.com was a a disaster. We had an excursion to Pompaii and Amalfi Coast. Finding the bus tour was horrible. Once found, felt the need to keep checking I was in the right excursion. will never book an excursion if not directly with the ship.

A magnificent experience by TammieF1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

Teh ship was beautiful, the restaurants were great, now on this ship, you must book your restaurants and events way before you get on the cruise or else you will not get to go to the blueman group, the legens in concert, the circus d soleil, and some of the restaurants as they sell out fast and you are only allowed to watch them one night out of the whole cruise, since there are so many people wanting to see them and to eat at these restaurants. The Manhattan room is the free restaurant and they have great food every night, the irish pub is a great alternative if you want to eat any time of the day

Great ship by JudyK4

Sail date: / Traveled as:
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

We thoroughly enjoyed the cruise. We loved all the storage space in the room. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and we appreciated having the shuttle buses available from the port to Florence and Rome. The ship is very nicely decorated. The swimming pools are small and overrun with children.

A great cruise spoiled by NCL by RodP

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

A very nice cruise liner that is well laid out - plenty of amenities for adults, teenagers and young children. The pool area on the deck 15 can get very noisy as there is a 'live' band that plays every afternoon from 13.00 to 17.00 and that can wear you down. There are quiet areas on deck 18 but they are not serviced very well by bar attendants and for example, if you want to get an ice-cream you have to get back down to deck 15 - by the time you get back up to the quiet area your ice-cream has melted! There is an adult only area at the aft of the ship, which has 2 jacuzzis and a pool, and a massive cinema screen. It is well serviced by bar attendants but the food is additional cost. The trips are very expensive eg the trip to Rome was $299pp plus tax. You can do these trips on your own using the local transportation, but NCL seem to have a policy of really pointing out the dangers of the local transport always being late etc - I think this is to scare people so that they take the vastly over-priced excursions. I have mention 'plus tax' alot - this is because prices are just stated - you only find out about the tax when you are billed and at 18% it soon amounts. In addition, there is an additional $12 per day, per person service charge added to your bill (this is for passengers aged 3 and up!). The service charge is supposedly distributed to all staff at the end of the cruise - how this works I am not sure. In addition to the service charge there is tax, and on each transaction - eg bar service there is an additional gratuity of 10% added to your bill. There is then an additional line for you to add your own tip which goes directly to the server. You even get asked for this if you are actually sitting at the bar! One really big negative was our final bill - this was checked before we went to bed on our final night - all okay. I then received a paper copy final bill at 07.45, 1 hour before we were disembarking which had an additioanl $147 added for 'Housekeeping Merchandise'?? Guest Services had a queue of around 50 people and whilst waiting in the line, it became apparent that around 15 of us all had this additional charge. (The charge was towels that were handed out on day one before we could get into our stateroom.) Every person with this addition had returned the towels and the attendant tore-up the reciept - however the initial signed sheet for the deposit was not destroyed and it is charged on your bill, not on the day it occured, but at the end of your last night. I am afraid to say that many people will have disembarked not realising that this charge had been added. Also, nobody would tell me who the person in charge of this facility was so that I could discuss directly. Overall, we had a good cruise but although it started out as a very good price in comparison with the same itinary on Royal Carribean Legend of the Seas, you actually pay the difference once you are on the ship.
