Very nice cruise. Some ports were good, others weren't. The ship was good. Some things were good (entertainment) some were bad (pool) and others were just ok (food).
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Very smooth! I like that most of the people on the cruise get on in Barcelona. We got on in Rome so we weren't waiting for an entire cruise ship to load. What a great idea!
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
I have been on several cruises (around 10). While the food was good, it was "less good" than in all of my previous cruises. Maybe my tastes changed? We didn't eat in any specialty restaurants, just the main dining rooms. A few things were better than good but overall everything was just ok.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
They really do a lot of activities and it's great. The MAJOR disappointment though was the VERY SMALL pools. There is a large pool deck but only two little holes are filled. They were so hot (obviously in the Mediterranean in July) but they were also so filled with people. Very disappointing.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
Great shows and entertainment every night!
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
I was surprised that the service was so good with the lack of tipping (now they charge a service fee and tip standard with all drinks so there is no need to additionally tip). They also now charge a standard $15 pp cabin fee rather than when I previously cruised and you needed to tip your cabin steward, waiter, etc.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
It was good. Nothing outstanding or memorable (especially compared to previous Royal Caribbean ships I've been on).
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
I expected a small cabin. However, I did not like the separation of the shower and the toilet rather than a standard bathroom. The shower was pretty much just in the room. No privacy in the toilet!
An hour and a half to Florence and about 45 minutes to Pisa. We chose to just walk around Liverno. Not really anything to see or do. People in the town are overall unfriendly to the tourists. Guess we should have sat in a car for hours to take a tour of Pisa (to see a tower that is leaning?) or Florence (3 hours round trip?).
We loved this port but probably because the beach was close and we love beaches. We just rented chairs and an umbrella at the closest place (lunch and drinks delivered to the chairs!). It was expensive but a great day!
