This is the third cruise for us. All of which have been on Norwegian, so even though I ding them on food, I keep going back to them. For me, the best meal was breakfast, whether at the Garden Cafe buffet or at O'Sheehans (sp?). Booking excursions at every port can be exhausting if the meeting time is 8AM or earlier as you tend to stay up late at night and then need to get up early to have breakfast and meet the tour. I was glad we made our own plans in Cannes and didn't plan an organized excursion in Mallorca. The day at sea was very relaxing. One thing we didn't know was that we began our trip at Cicitavecchia but others started from Barcellona. So when we got to Barcelona, some folks got off the boat and new cruisers got on. This isn't problematic except that there seemed to be more competition for restaurant and show reservations, which is why I said to show up even if the show is fully reserved.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
By the time we boarded the ship there were only 49 other people to board so it went pretty smoothly.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
The specialty restaurants were somewhat disappointing. The food was only slightly better than the dining room food which isn't saying much. We ate at: Le Bistro - great French Onion soup but only the Creme Brulee dessert was good. I've have better frozen desserts; Cagnes - nothing special; and Moderno's - the salad bar was good but the other food was just okay. We also selected the free drink package. This is great if you are a beer drinker because they can't mess up a bottled or canned beer. Every time you ordered a mixed drink it would tast different even if ordered from the same bar. Additionally, we found that all drinks are not aailable at all the bars. For exapmle, you can only get "The Getaway" drink at certain bars and not all bars had blenders so slushy drinks like :Mango Meltdown" were not available at all bars. Seems like every bar should have a blender.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
we really didn't participate in any onboard activities but it seems like there were a lot to choose from, from bowlilng to rock climbing walls.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
the Cirque show was very good if you like circus acts (juggling, balancing, contortion artists, etc)
Children's Programs
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
We found the staff very attentive throughout the ship and always willing to help you.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
The ship is well maintained.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
We had an aft cabin on the 9th deck. It was very noisy (vbrations) when the ship was entering or leaving the port and had to change direction otherwise it was very quiet. The room layout isn't that great as there isn't any privacy in the shower or when on the toilet. Every sound can be heard.
Ship tip
If a show is "sold out" show up about 25 minutes early to get in the waitlist line. On our cruise, the waitlist line always got in to see the show.
Hate to generalize, but this is the second time I have visited Cannes and the French folks are just darn right rude to non-french speaking people. They should be reminded that if it weren't for the allies they would be speaking German right now. We rented a car for 11 EUROS and drove to St Paul de Vence and had lunch at L'Colombe D'or. Very nice trip.
Did not know what to expect at this port. Being an island I thought there would be more of an island flavor but its very developed and very clean. We enjoyed our time there. No excursions.
Again, booked a tour (not thru Norwegian) to go to Rapello, AMalfi, and Positano. Unfortunaelty, the night before there was a rain storm which closed the road to Positano, other than that great tour.
Put the bags out the night before and when we got off the ship about 9AM there they were, bith bags together no problems. Booked a transfer to FCO (not through Norwegian) and all was good.
