Review summary

The cruise was good. Food was good but not outstanding. Most of the staff was good but found main dining room and bartenders not overly friendly. Wenwere a group of six adults who don’t drink so once they knew that they weren’t super attentive especially at the Spice H2O bar. Our room steward Junior was fantastic! He found out it was my husbands birthday and decorated our room with balloons, confetti heart in the bed and a bottle of champagne! The onboard entertainment is severely lacking. There was no English speaking comedian, only Spanish. For the size of the ship the theatre was small and you couldn’t get into the show if you didn’t book ahead of time. We went to watch Burn the Floor and walked out because it was not good. We have been on other cruises where we went to the theatre every night and the shows were fantastic. Not on this ship. Having said that, the dueling piano bar, Howl at the Moon was terrific! They have theee of the most talented musicians working there. They were so fun and put on a great show every night! The Cirque Dreams show was also very good. You have to pay to go see it but it was entertaining. It’s too bad that isn’t the main show every night or something like it.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Embarkation is quick if you go a bit later. We went at about 2:00pn and it was so quick. The girl at the desk said people start lining up at 11:00am and it’s long lines from then until about 1-00pm

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The main dining room food was ok. We dined there three times and some nights the appetizers were cold. Not consistent from night to night.

Ship Quality

Ship was very clean and they made everyone use hand sanitizer everywhere you went which is fantastic. Ship is a bit old but clean. Carpet is pretty worn and buckling and lifting all over the ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

Ship tip

Book a cabin closer to the front or back but not midship. Elevators and stairs are far away and stay either closer to deck 14 or deck 7 that way you can take the stairs every time and avoid the slow elevators and crowds.

Ports of call

Barcelona, Spain

Naples, Italy

Very busy to get out of in a taxi or hired car but quick to get back in. We hired a tour guide to drive us to the Amalfi coast and then Pompei with a private guide. Very crowded in Positano and Sorrento but stunningly beautiful. Pompei was amazing. Could have spent at least a day in both places! Definitely worth the money to hire a private guide on Pompei and skip the line tickets?

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

Far away from Rome. Takes 90 mins to get into the city. We hired a tour guide for the day. I would recommend just taking the train and doing your own walking tour of the city. Less driving and more time seeing the actual city.

Livorno (Florence & Pisa), Italy

2 out of 5
Took the shuttle bus to Livorno...nothing to see or do there really we then took a shuttle bus from Livorno to Pisa. We loved Pisa! Everyone said not to go but we thought is was a fun little place and had a picnic on the lawn against the fortress wall in the shade. Would recommend renting a car to meet you at the port and then driving to Lucca and then to Pisa and then back to the ship. Our friends did that and had a wonderful day biking around underground tunnels and the town of Lucca and then Pisa to see the tower!

Cannes, France

Cannes was our least favourite port. Have to tender over to get there. We took the little train on a tour of the city and then went to the market, had lunch in a cafe and went to the beach. Not much to do in Cannes. I would recommend taking the train to Nice or Monaco but the train line was closed and we weren’t sure it would open to be back in time.

Palma De Mallorca, Balearic Islands

LOVED Mallorca!! Walked right off the boat and rented e-bikes. Rode all over the city. There is a fabulous bike and walking path around the whole shore line with amazing views and cafes etc. throughout your ride. There are castles and cathedrals and lots to see. It was our favourite port!! Great way to end a busy week!

Wow, 2 stars. To each their own. I love the Epic! There are picky people in life and then there are people like my ex wife.
