Sick during Caribbean Cruise by jjb883

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Dawn / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Too many sick people coughing without covering their mouth. Lousy weather for 3 days limited smokers to the Cigar Room with terrible ventilation. Food quality and taste poor. Hence recycled a/c caused me to develop bronchitis. My cabin below hallway by bar and Cigar Room and heard heavy foot traffic until after midnight. At times some smoke drifted into my stateroom. The rating of 3.1 was because of the excursions booked thru Cruise Only Alaska Airlines. Not because of NCL.

Norwegian Dawn - Not What We Expected by CMMGirl

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Dawn / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

Customer service staff is not helpful. My first tip off should have been when I called Norwegian's customer service before the cruise. I was double checking what my travel agent had told me. I had a late flight into Quebec and I was concerned with getting on board the ship if I missed the first day's boarding time, which I had been told was 11 PM. My travel agent told me if I did miss this time, I could board the next morning after 9AM. The Norwegian agent told me that I should have called them directly because I really did need to get on board the ship that first day and my travel agent should have told me that. I was so appalled that I called back and spoke with another Norwegian agent who said that my travel agent was correct and that I could board the following day in the event I was unable to make it there the first night. (I made it at 11:05 PM and got on the ship – yeah!) Once on board, you will have to figure out for yourself where to find things, what deck to take to disembark and the time to be back on the ship, etc. If you miss the one sentence in the announcement that tells you this, you are out of luck. They also do not respond to complaints. I did so in person and also wrote a complaint to them regarding my sleeping room and the noise. We were awakened every night by the cleaning crew in the restaurant that was directly above our room. This vacuum should have been used during the day when everyone was awake and the restaurant was closed. The Oceanview sleeping room was nice, the 1:00 AM wake up was not. Sydney is a stop that is not worth going to - there is nothing worth seeing, unless you want to take an hour-long trip (one way) and pay far too much money to see Alexander Graham Bell's house. We did not see many leaves turning color and we had assumed we would see them as the ship went along. Not so. You mainly see water only. No land. We did take a few hop off and on tours and did see a few trees with leaves changing color. If you think a tour will be cancelled due to weather, think again! If it is raining cats and dogs and you can't see anything out of your window, you will go anyway so be wary of timing and weather. You also have to go through what they call "customs" on the ship when you enter US water. Basically, everyone on the ship has to walk in a line and show your passport. This was a pretty big fiasco with the ship blocking most elevators to only go to the 7th floor where this was going to be held. We had people in wheel chairs and scooters trying to get to the 12th floor for breakfast. So - they had to go to the 7th floor, and get off, then wait in the very long lines to get back on to go to the 12th floor. It personally took me 40 minutes (and I walked up stairs to the 7th floor) to get from the 5th floor to the 12th floor for my morning coffee. UGH! I will give credit to them for great food, great restaurant service, and good entertainment. If you stay somewhere besides the 5th floor, it might be something you will enjoy. Best Wishes!

Very Disappointing by jpolich138

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Dawn / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

To say we were greatly disappointed is an understatement. This cruise is touted as a fall colors cruise, yet once you leave Quebec, the boat is so far away from shore that nothing is really visable, colorwise. The food throughout the ship was poor, overall. Ate at the buffet the second day, and did not go back - eggs were like those at a Days Inn, and coffee was undrinkable. The coffee throughout the ship was not good. The specialty restaurants were laid out poorly, and had we not had three free meals in same included in our package, I would have said we got gyped. The only stellar entrée was the lamb chops at Cagneys. Other than the Atrium, the public spaces were not public friendly. No place to sit and read where there was an ocean view (so we mostly read in our room). Too small of a space for daily Trivia (Gatsbys). The two saving graces on the ship were the service from our Butler and two bartenders, and the Atrium entertainment, especially Jose and Patti (they were excellent). This ship needs to be relegated to cruising only 4 day booze cruises in the Caribbean.

Ship: Norwegian Dawn / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

1. Pool and deck areas were very nice. 2. I didn’t like having to make a reservation for dinner in a non-speciality restaurant. 3. Chinese restaurant, Bamboo, was very good. 4. Room was awesome! Temperature of room was perfect/TV was excellent. 5. Staff was very nice and very efficient.

Very Nice Cruise by swissmiss15

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Dawn / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

It was a very nice cruise for the price we paid. The production number show was spectacular. Our cabin was nicely planned out despite its small size. There was a good variety of food in the dining room nightly.

A relaxing, stress free anniversary celebration by jgaither781

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Dawn / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

It was a relaxing, comfortable time. The cabin was great - no need to upgrade. The food was consistently good, and Patrick our Steward was very kind and attentive. The show Elements was especially entertaining.

Overall a good cruise with good food and entertainment. Horrible oceanview cabin (8602) which should be sold as an inside cabin. No view whatsoever and staff walking outside your window making noises. I paid an upgrade for this cabin.Waste of money. by jc55

Overall a good cruise with a horrible obstructed oceanview cabin and horrible disembarkation in Boston where everyone from the ship were trying to get into the few taxis available and no internet service at the port. Apparently UBER is blocked by the port of Boston since it could not pick up my location. It was chaos

This is a Cruise You Should Do at least once!!! by jazzman61

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Dawn / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

It was a great cruise. I am so glad we went to this part of the world. It was more than I realized and we will be back. All the ports are so different from the caribbean. It was not as cold as I thought it would be. Spend the money on the excursions on this cruise as in some cases you cannot really get to the really cool sites without it. It is much harder to book off ship as well as there is not nearly as much of a market for cruise except during season. Definitely spend extra time in Quebec and get to Peggy's Cove the first time.

It was nice. Did not like the comedian. The voices of the night show singers were hard to understand. Food was fine. Did not see any whales. The weather was wonderful. Cruise director was not as good as the sun.

Never Norwrgian Again by grampasrocker

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Dawn / Destination: Bermuda

Have been loyal NCL cruisers over time, no more. Recent cruise to Bermuda re assigned to Maritime Canada!!! Other NCL ships from different ports leaving days later re routed to Bahamas and Florida. Ended up in Bar Harbor Maine, 50 miles from home. Understand safety aspect of having to re route cruises due to weather, however a Canada cruise is no substitute for a warm climate cruise. Was notified of trip change at 10AM morning of cruise traveling to Boston. No opportunity to pack warm clothes etc. Arrival at Cruise terminal and rudely told that "you're going to Canada". Conversations with staff on ship indicates that they all new 3 days in advance that they would not be returning to Bermuda. Absolutely no acknowledgement from NCL as to the inconvenience of all this. This re route was in the cards as this was to be the last trip to Bermuda for 2018 shifting to the Canada cruise for the remainder of the season. Paid more for the Bermuda cruise than the cost of NCL's scheduled Canada cruises and it didn't include Quebec City or Prince Edward Island. This cruise should have been re routed to a warm climate as others or given option to cancel. Feel like we have been robbed!!!!

Worst Vacation of my life. Booked for Bermuda not Canada, will never go again. by hmojo1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Dawn / Destination: Bermuda

This was our 3rd cruise. The 1st 2 were amazing and this was the worst time of my life. The destination DOES matter. A more suitable destination should have been chosen. We were packed for Bermuda and received notification on way to port. We had no clothes to even leave the ship. My beach vacation was taken away. I would have settled for Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard. Where is the beach in Nova Scotia? If my flight is cancelled, they just don't send us anywhere.

Nice staff, disgusting passengers, nickel and diming. by dcarlson

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Dawn / Destination: Bermuda

Negatives: Disgusting clientele--morbidly obese people everywhere trying to get even fatter. Pools and hot tubs too disgusting to use. Smokers and polluted air in many places. Way overpriced wifi access. Tips automatically, inappropriately to bill. Entertainment geared to people with no intellectual curiosity. Positives: nice, accommodating staff. Decent food and choice.
