Review summary

The cruise from Boston and returning from Boston was a first. This was so easy I'll do it again. The Norwegian Dawn is probably my least favorite ship I've ever been on for reasons listed above. The best part of the cruise is always the people you meet along the way. Fellow cruisers, along with the 7 port stops was the highlight for me.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
After tax and tip a soda will cost $4, a beer $8+. If you got the "free" drink package the tax and tip added hundreds of dollars to your bill. Food compared to other cruise lines disappointing.

Service and Staff

2 out of 5
So many of the staff were outstanding however there were 3 experiences that were upsetting and stand out.I heard a hostess at O'Sheehans deny a couple offering to share a table because according to the hostess, the other passengers wouldn't want to because they (we) wouldn't understand. This blind couple were upset and voiced feeling discriminated against. They were humiliated and discriminated against. They left the restaurant and returned to their room. I felt distressed for them and furious at the hostess for making assumptions about the passengers. They would have been welcome at my table. #2 Bamboo restaurant hostess scolded at least 4 couples for not making reservations. It wasn't a suggestion or that there wasn't space available, but a scolding. We happened to share a table with the other 3 couples who were also feeling scolded. #3 Disembark lines, another female person who manned the gate where a line of passengers was being held until 8AM yelled at the passengers because we were not policing the line to prevent others from cutting in. I know she was frustrated but she took it out on us in line. There was an over riding impression that the passengers were a pain. Have never ever seen anything like this before or felt the way these experiences made me feel.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
It was one of the easier ships to find our way around. Pleased with our location on the 4th floor. Didn't expect to like it down there but it was generally quiet and convenient to the disembarking ramp at all the stops.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
The sheets were short for the bed resulting no sheet covering the upper mattress cover by morning. The comforter width is short too. It only comes to the edge of the mattress. Just imagine loosing your cover to your partner who thinks he should have a normal amount of covers. There is a work room behind the wall where occasionally noise was heard. Typically 5am there was some banging. Earplugs worked well.

Ship tip

If you are a non-smoker, you might want another ship. Fewer places were free of the smell of smoke.

Hounded by taxi drivers seeking fare. Sometimes felt unsafe by sheer numbers of them crowding.

Found a wonderful walkway around the base of the fort that was about 1.5 miles along the water.
