Lasting Impression and Experiences by JoyfulCruise

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

This ship is the biggest in New York. This is our first cruise ever and I liked everything about it, there is so much activities and things to do onboard the ship. They have give away stuff every day at the duty free and fine dinning at different restaurant. The shows like Rock of Ages and Second City are awesome. Highly recommended for those who wants to try out cruises for their very first time and those who have been to one to try this Norwegian Breakaway.

Disney Cruise by eugenerockett14

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

This cruise ship is definitly not for seniors..  The service in the Manhatten room was terrible.  Always waiting for an elevator that was already full...Port Canerval is in the middle of nowhere.  Did not stop at the private Island.    No movies. Could never get a seat for the shows.  The balcony was a joke.  They should call it a French Balcony.

It's Okay. by AntonioAndFida

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

What can I say. ... We booked this cruise to get away from the cold plus, it was convenient for us to get to the NYC piers. ... Other than that, I had no expectations. I knew what I was getting into on a ship carrying 4300 passengers and VERY LIMITED open-air, deck space.

CABIN: We booked a mini suite #13798 - PERFECT location midships (Since there are only TWO banks of elevators. One forward and one aft.) Can you picture that on a ship this size? ... Our cabin steweard RANDY CRUZ was EXCELLENT! ... The cabin space itself was fine, and the bathroom was excellent. PLENTY of storage in the cabin and the bathroom. The balcony, ... a joke. Sooooo small.

FOOD: Main dining rooms - Excellent. We especially liked the MANHATTAN ROOM. Buffet: Deck 16 - Fresh, tasty, excellent variety. There is a smaller version on Deck 15 with, fresh air seating (very nice). Specialty restaurants: Ate in the Brazilian. Excellent food, service, ambiance. And a lot of fun. You can reuest a table overlooking the dance floor of The Manhattan Room. Very nice location. Ate in The French restaurant. There were 4 of us. We each ordered a different main dish, and all were excellent. Desserts were outstanding EXCEPT the chocolate fondue served with fruit. The chocolate was not of high quality. Tasted like heated up Hershey's syrup. I do not recommend that you eat outside the restaurant, at the nice bistro tables they have set up. The smell of cigarette smoke from the casino is overwhelming (Whether or, not you're a smoker. Wouldn't you rather be able to taste and smell what you're eating and not, cigarettes?).

ROOM SERVICE: Very limited breakfast menue. After the third day, it becomes, same-old, same-old. Very inconsistant in their arrival times. Very! The mini suites have a small one-cup coffee maker. Ask the Steward to leave extra coffee pouches and double-up when brewing a cup. The coffee packets are weak tasting. The coffee in the buffets are restaurant is good.

ENTERTAINMENT. Burn the floor -  A MUST SEE! ... OUTSTANDING! Second City - The family version NOT FUNNY. Did not see the "adult" version at 11:00 pm but, was told by 3 other couples that it was EXTREMELY vulgar. All 3 walked out. Rock of ages - DISGUSTINGLY VULGAR. Why NCL would have a venue like this is beyond my comprehension. We left as soon as two guys "came out of the closet" and the audience applauded.

CRUISE ITINERARY. Really, really bad. Like I said, we only took this cruise because of convenience and to get away from the cold. Cape Canaveral - Oh my goodness! The ONLY way to get off the docking area is by taxi (cannot cross the causeway on foot), and ONE taxi company controls everything. Get prepared to wait and wait and wait on very long lines to get a taxi. And the taxi fare prices ... as high as New York City's.

You get the gist. ... Overall the cruise was okay, and just okay. Would I cruise NCL again? Probably not. ALL the entry level and mid level cruise lines do everything they possibly can to separate-you-from-your-money but, but, but, NCL has taken it to a whole new level. Eliminating every inch of public free air space and creating pay-to-enter venues. It is sincerely over the top. To the point of insultingly bad taste.

Why does my review matter, and you should take heed? Because I have taken over 40 cruises, have owned 3 full service travel agencies, and had done hundreds of ship inspections. Bottom line - If you do not have ANY expectations of experiencing a "fabulous" cruise, and, and, and you can get yourself a fabulous blowout price then, okay, take this cruise. If not, DON'T!

BREAKAWAY ACCOMPLISHED by ENERGETICEIGHTY

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

OUR FIRST TRIP ON THE BREAKAWAY WAS VERY REWARDING.  ALTHOUGH WE ARE

ACCUSTOMED TO SMALLER SHIPS (WE WERE APPREHENSIVE) WE FOUND THE SHIP'S

PERSONNEL TO BE EFFICIENT AND HELPFUL.  THINGS WENT VERY SMOOTHLY.

THE FOOD WAS ABOVE PAR.

THE CABIN (OCEAN VIEW) WAS VERY SMALL---OUR SMALLEST EVER ---NOT EVEN A

CHAIR FOR SOMEONE WITH A BAD BACK.

Experienced much better cruises by mjstraub

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

This was our fourth cruise on Norwegian and one of the most disappointing. The food was mediocre to say the least. The 5 "free" dining restaurants were ok, nothing to rave about. The menu was the same in every venue, so it didn't matter where you ate. If you wanted to try a "speciality restaurant", it cost you between $20 - $50 per person.

There was so much salt in the food that all in our party had swollen fingers

Upon questioning the front desk about tips, we were informed that they were compulsory. Not true!Tips mean to insure prompt service! You can dispute the daily tip charge added to your bill if not satisfied.

Given the huge size of this ship, the entertainment options were very limited.

The cabin size was much smaller then previous Norwegian cruises.

All in all, it was an ok vacation. Would we book Norwegian again? Not sure!

My Breakaway Cruise by foxie5100

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

I had a wonderful time on the Breakaway. It is a beautiful ship with so many fun things to do . The crew were kind and wonderful people who catered to my every need. The food was the best I had on any other ship . I can't wait to cruise on the Breakaway again maybe sooner then I think.

Review of the Breakaway by jasonrodriguez1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

I usually cruise with RCL and enjoy their ships very much. The Breakaway seemed overcrowded, I believe the layout makes the ship seem smaller. Way too many charging activities, makes me feel like I am being hustled. Food and service was good for most restaurants, the churrasco place was nasty and the service was poor. For such a big ship I believe it rocks way too much. The rooms are very small but bathrooms are very nice. The shows are good, I enjoyed Burn the Floor and Second City, I did not like Rock of Ages(not into that kind of thing). The best thing about NCL is the freestyle dining, but I would still choose the Oasis or Allure any day.

If not for certain waitstaff ,asking for things offered. by seal196886

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Going on a trip with two friends, neither have been on this line, I was once before but thought I would try again. Everything was going great until I read Freestyle Daily and it had stated I could have the serves of the same waiter daily (this is the reason I did not go sooner I like the same wait staff). When asking for this service everyone was great that is until I went to the dining room to try to get it. After this the hostess treated my guests and I extreamly poor. So poor that I had put a deposit down on another cruise that I actually went and pulled my future cruise credit.

I had an amazing time on the cruise. Plenty to do while aboard just wish I had a little more time on land. Room service and dinning was great. Always someone around to direct you and make you feel safe. Also met some good people aboard

Wonderful vacation! by lfulfordw

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

We have been on 2 other cruise lines and this was the most fun! We loved freestyle dining and dressing more casually. There were lots of activities so we were never bored. We really loved Nassau. It was very picturesque and the beaches were beautiful. The Straw Market was great, especially if you know how to bargain. We enjoyed the outside restaurants and bars on the promanade deck. And the most important thing of all- the service was excellent! The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the food was not quite as good as on Holland America.

Stormy weather----poor communication from the deck-captain---tooo many pasengers by merlot67

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Never again a cruise with more than 2500 pasengers. The Shows were great. The staff was excelent, very accomodating, friendly and helpful. The captain appeared to be very impressed with himself. My cousine and I are German and....No German material on board....I had to translate everything. At the end of the cruise the New York City Tour was canceled and absolutely NO effort was made to help with the connection to any of the Airports. I had booked this Cruise directly through the Norwegian Cruise Line website and I dont think that I will be on another cruise with Norwegian Cruise Line.

Burgunda Probert and Hannelore Lombardi, Colorado and Germany

Not what I expected by Dantheman1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

No complaints about any of the crew members or the level of service that was provided.  That was fantastic.

I think that handling 4000 passengers comes with its challenges.  First off, only 4 complimentary restaurants, not 5 like Norwegian states.  Restaurants Taste and Savor are not different restaurants at all....they are the same.  Same menu same kitchen...Same Same Same.  Because there are only 4 complimentary restaurants, wait times are long.  When your hungry, so is everyone else.  If you don't feel like waiting then you have a ton of options at restaurants with a cover charge.

Compared to other cruises, the entertainment was not that great.  I thought the entertainment staff lacked "energy".  The on board game shows were a little dull.

My family and I have been on close to 20 cruises. This ship has the best sports deck, shows and service that we have seen. The food was delicious, and we never had to wait for any anything.

i love NCL by gliu

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

I love NCl, but this time wasn't so good, they only had 2 shows per cruise. The cruise directer was really bad, they need to replace him if they want more people to cruise with NCL. All  excursions are worthless because it's just not enough time to see everything, yet you will pay full price for it .

Great ship, quality food, service, and entertainment by pckwesteast

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

I've been on a few Carnival cruises in the past and really enjoyed them, however, this really felt like a step up.  Great food, service, and loads of entertainment options.  Don't miss the Cirque Dinner show or Slam Allen's Jazz band.  Also, the magician was fantastic.  The Adult only area on the 16th floor (Spice H2O) has it's own hot tub, bar, massive tv with seating area, soaking pool/waterfall, and comfy lounge chairs .
