Refreshing and relaxing ..Eastern Caribbean Cruise. by LindaCats

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Bliss / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Fully enjoyed...Bliss more crowded. Disappointed didnt get to see Nassau. Too windy for ship to dock. Loved St. Thomas and Tortoila. Photo staff need to change backdrops and get friendlier. Loved it. Would like to go again. I wanted to see Nassau.

A Cruise of Shortages, Chaos and Bad Food by Frango

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Bliss / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

A Cruise of Shortages, Chaos and Bad Food We booked this trip over the Christmas Holidays thinking that it would be special. Instead, it was absolutely terrible. The Food: They use low-quality products. Such products cannot result in good food. Quality and limited variety aside, the preparation was substandard. To make minestrone soup, they probably just dissolved some bouillon cubes in warm water. The cold cuts section looked like “delicatessen for people on food stamps”. How did they manage to develop a watermelon that’s not sweet? Personally, I prefer Italian and French cuisine to Indian food. I also like Chinese food. However, on this trip, I ate only Indian food because it was relatively speaking better than anything else. If not for that Indian food station my family and I would have nothing to eat. We tried their extra “specialty restaurants”: Cagney’s Steakhouse, Ocean Blue and Q. Of the three only the Q – Texas Grill was OK. The other two restaurants, although you pay extra money for it, serve the same chewy steak and the same tasteless fish. The service: All the service personnel was primarily from India and the Philippines. The service was polite, but there is nothing new about it. The entire Hospitality Industry had figured out some 20+ years ago that training people in how to be polite and cheerful, is cheaper than buying quality food products. In my mind, the reason the food quality was so poor beside the substandard products was also that Filipinos, unlike Chinese, Japanese or Thai are not known for being great cooks. Shortages: Allegedly, our cruise was fully booked. This may explain why all the specialty restaurants, all the entertainment shows and 99% of all other activities were sold out. However, if you come in person to the so-called “fully booked” restaurant they will sit you. While there, you will quickly notice that the restaurant is half empty. Shortage of cooks, perhaps? The Ship: Like us, most people wanted to book Bliss because it is a newly built ship. To me, it means no cockroaches and other bugs. But the boat is no frills, mind you. The floor covering is mostly linoleum and cheap carpets. Our stateroom was so cramped0 that there wasn’t enough room to open two small carryon suitcases. While the bathroom was small but sufficient, no bar of soap, no shower cap, not even regimented 2 Q-tips. Forget it. It’s just the soap and the shampoo/conditioner dispensers. Our balcony was the smallest I have ever seen on a cruise ship. Commercial photography - Cheap Commercialism: We quickly discovered that their onboard photography studio owns the ship. All the traffic is centered on decks 6, 7 and 8 where the Customer Service, most restaurants and the entertainment are located. Every corner and every niche was populated with their photographers along with their lighting setups. Those photographers think that they own the ship. Consequently, if a fare-paying passenger would like to take a selfie with some of the ships Christmas decorations, or some ship stairway as the background they are out of luck. We tried and were booted out. Incidentally, their onboard decorations are mediocre, to say the least. Chaos: We signed up for a snorkeling trip on St. Thomas. The minute you step on the pier you are lost. Their assistance of where to go and how to find the group you belong to was almost nonexistent. The same goes for checking out of the ship upon return to Miami. They put a lot of pressure on us to check out of our stateroom by 9 AM. However, when we’ve got to deck 6 for debarkation we found a mile-long line. No wonder, the passengers for the next cruise were already waiting. The meat grinder must go on. We will never come back!

Just got off the Bliss.... by kennymac1277

Sail date: /
Ship: Norwegian Bliss

Just got off the Bliss. Overall the cruise was outstanding. The shows...food...drinks and service were all top notch. The only negative I have is that they need to add more help for such a big ship. The staff in my opinion are overwhelmed at times, especially sea days on the pool deck. I give this cruise a 9 out of 10!!

Staff were over worked! Some were very nice but others not so much! The gift shop did not restock the ship! So our cruise you could not buy cigarettes (other than marboro reds) or good liquor! They told my girls oh well guess you can quit smoking. No sorry or anything! Room was very spacious had 2 TVS and a patriot between the big bed and the couch bed! Large bathroom with 2 sinks and a tub! Our Stewart was very nice just over worked!

Ho Hum Ship by RustyGee

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Bliss / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Be prepared for long waits for eating due to the dining staff being short staffed. We rate things as will we go back and we will most likely not look for going back to the Bliss, Be prepared to make reservations before the cruise and on embarkation go to the Social to complete any reservation that are not on the NCL web page. We went to buy unlimited go cart tickets and had to go back to the Social after going up to the track. This ship is huge so expect with small elevators at the forward and aft locations in the ship. The crew has closed off portions of the decks and stairs around the go cart track which limits access to the 5 hole mini gold course. You actually go to the 5th hole to pick your ball and putter then walk through the course to get to hole 1. If others are playing, you are walking through their game.

The Bliss is a great... by tdukes1993

Sail date: /
Ship: Norwegian Bliss

The Bliss is a great modern ship that is very clean and has an awesome layout! There are many areas to explore around the ship, so you're never bored. Specialty dining was very pleasurable and all the resturants had very high marks. The Bliss may be a popular staple for NCL, but there were some Mark's that were terribly missed! A majority of the staff, close to 85% seemed to me like they were just burnt out. Moral was very low between the staff all the way from guest services to the washy-washy happy-happy sprayers. I specifically had an accident with a water slide attendant who chose to describe me around a group of guest in a negative way. The Bliss to me had a feel that it was geared more towards the 35 and up crowd. Yes, they have attractions and rooms geared for the younger crowd, but it felt more like an afterthought. With all the restrictions placed on the ship, the go karts aren't really designed for the kids. Eating at the free resturant accommodations were sometimes a hit and a miss. We ate at Savor for breakfast and sat there waiting for our food. 45 minutes had passed and someone who sat down after we did received their food very promptly, but that wasn't the case for nor the family that got up and left as soon as we pulled through the securely area. The pools are very deep for the average pool. The adult pool was around 6'8 and the other day pool was around 5'7 which is pretty deep for me.

Eastern Caribbean Cruise 2018 by Sewingbear2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Bliss / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We had a very enjoyable cruise. The seas were very calm and the ship was amazing, albeit perhaps a bit too big, this was our first Mega ship. A lot of walking. But on the positive I only gained 4 pounds on this trip. !

Very Nice by maryd3836

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Bliss / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Thanksgiving cruise and very nice family vacation with my college daughter and husband. Very nice ship with large observation windows. Food was average. Entertainment some was very good and others were ok. Book all specialty dining and entertainment in advance. Purchase beach club tickets as soon as they go on sale day of embarkation, limited number sold. Hope this helps.
