I would recommend Alaska but on a different cruise line other than Norweign.
Embarkation
1 out of 5
Husband is disabled and was assured there would be wheelchair assistance from the bus up onto the ship. However every person I asked for assistance they just kept telling me to continue down the road and follow the signs. After walking 1.5 blocks we arrived at the terminal to embark onto the ship. Again asking for assistance and just the same response,, "follow the signs and there will be someone to help! After walking up 2 ramps we reached the people telling us where to go. So we go to the wheelchair section and waited 2.5 hrs without seeing one wheelchair for us but other people being escorted with wheelchairs from somewhere else before us. We decided, along with many other travelers, to just walk it ourselves. My husband has ALS and used his walker to track uphill onto the ship and not one person offered to help when we asked. Needless to say my husband was exhausted and not impressed. This was a bucket list end of life trip.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
2 out of 5
The main dining rooms were good as for service and food selection. The buffets was a disaster! The employees did not help to facilitate a table for the disabled with electronic scooter. Also due to the ALS disease my husband has we needed a straw and the staff just instructed us to go to the bar to get one. I will say eventually we found a couple of staff members who did help us once we stated we would tip them well. The food was OK but the fruit was terrible. There wasn't enough variety.
Onboard Activities
1 out of 5
The announcements could not be heard inside the stateroom. We had to open the door and step into the hall to hear what was being said. Did not take into any activities.
Entertainment
I had reservations for Jersey Boys but it was rescheduled and I could not accomodate the time.
Children's Programs
no kids
Service and Staff
1 out of 5
Ship personnel in Guest Services was rude and unresponsive to my husbands needs. The waiters and room service was very good and tried to assist. Had problem with room steward being missing in action. Also room service would not remove dirty trays of food unless we asked even when they were delivering new trays of food.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
The ship was clean. The layout needed better signs as to where things were at.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
The cabin was extremely small. The electric scooter would not fit in the doorway as it should have because the hallway was too narrow and could not make the turn. The bathroom was ok but there was not enough room to eat in room for the food trays. The balcony was nice.
Ship tip
Make sure you get a room not far from the elevator and get a balcony, it's worth it. Also make sure you bring all your over the counter meds with you because the ship does not sell such things as Tums; Gas Ex; Motion sickness; cold meds; cough drops; anti itch creams; or other common Sundries you would expect in a hotel. The ship makes you see a visit to the Dr. for these items and then charges a fortune.
Went on the excursion to eat crabs and that was good eating, but no time left for shopping. This was a big disappointment as the shop inside the mill was awesome but not enough time at this port.
Have you booked a handicap accessible room? If yes, you should've had enough space for comfort. I'm very surprised that so many people still don't know why a Seattle round trip cruise has to stop in Victoria.
