A wonderful time! Our first with Holland America Line but not our last. From start to finish, no detail was too small or left undone.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Embarkation at the Port of Rome (Civitavecchia) was made easy and very smooth that’s to a very organized system and attentive staff!
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
We loved the main dining room but there were so many great food/eating options!
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
We enjoyed relaxing poolside or walking the 3rd Deck around the ship 3 laps = 1 mile. We never once made it to the fitness center, spending most of our energy on shore excursions.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
The Step One dance troupe was amazing and put on two phenomenal shows over the course of our 10 day cruise. The BB King All Stars were amazing as were the classical musicians who played the Lincoln Center Stage, but our absolute favorites were the Rockers in the Rolling Stone Rock Room.
We also quite enjoyed David Coperfield (no not that David Coperfield)!
Billboard On-Board was a lot of fun too!
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
The staff was SUPERHUMAN! Attentive and wonderful!
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
The layout of the ship was mapped and displayed everywhere. It was easy to get around and took to time at all for it all to become muscle memory. The ship was clean (it’s maintainers we always busy painting, cleaning and beautifying). Also, for everyone’s health, there were many hand washing as well as automatic hand sanitizer dispensing stations.

Ship tip
It was our longest cruise to date, so we didn’t have a lot of experience. It was our first time in Europe for leisure. It was our first time cruising with HAL and there was a lot we didn’t know. The best advice I could give would be to download the Navigator app and read your daily ship’s bulletins. Choose quality over quantity and be selective as to how you spend your time...make it count. Don’t feel like you have to be doing something all the time. Relax.
Lovely town. Easy port access. We flew in the day before and enjoyed some time on the waterfront (where our hotel was located). We did a little exploring, had a wonderful meal enjoying an extraordinary view of the sunset, followed by a walk and some gelato.
All passengers were given many different options including time and method of disembarking the ship. It was orderly and smooth. Everyone received a copy of their room statement prior to leaving.
