Played trivia games & really enjoyed the music venues & the shows at night. Went on a paid tour of the ship which took 4 hours over 2 days at sea. Fantastic tour which was very informative

Didn't miss a show. The ships singers & dancers were great as were the performers that came aboard at each port.

This was our first cruise & it was quite easy to find our way around. The ship was definitely clean & well-maintained.
Cabin / Stateroom

We were upgraded four days before departure from a room with a view to a room with a balcony which spoiled us for all future cruises. We loved the room.
Ship tip
If you need to see the ship's doctor it is not inexpensive. However, you can submit the bill to your insurance company when you return home.
The best tour we went on. Six of us viewed the island by van driven by a local resident who we met once ashore. Going to the top of "The Rock" & inside of it was the highlight of the tour.
Once off the ship we met Marco & he took us sightseeing in his van. There were 5 of us & Marco was very informative & made sure to get us back to the ship on time. The highlight was seeing the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
Considering that the ship could not dock as scheduled in Barcelona & docked a day late everything worked out well. Holland America did everything possible to assistance the passengers. We even received a refund for the night in the hotel we had booked.
Nieuw Amsterdam was our first cruise in 2010 and, we too, got hooked mainly because of how wonderful everything was - I mean EVERYTHING. Happy to be hooked! Love HAL. 👍❤👍
