The Nieuw Amsterdam is one of our favorite ships, so we were already off to a good start.  We sail often with Holland America because we like their ships and absolutely love their private island, Half Moon Cay.  On this cruise we enjoyed our "Duck Tour" in Grand Cayman and thoroughly enjoyed Key West.  We were not impressed with Cozumel, although the cocoa factory tour was interesting.  Overall, it was a good experience.

Food and Dining

We think Holland America's food is the best.

Onboard Activities

We thought there was not enough to do. We enjoy audience interaction game shows; they only had the Marriage Game with the same, same, same questions we've heard on multiple cruise lines. Also it was difficult to enjoy our balcony because there were smokers below and next to us.

Entertainment

The "Pan Players"/Steel Drum band was a very pleasant surprise. I didn't think I liked that style of music, but they played Broadway hits and classical music !!! The Piano Man was very good. The singers and dancers were good although we have seen the same show many times. The comedian was awful - had I not been seated in the middle, I would have left.

Service and Staff

Ronald and Ryan in the poolside bar were engaging. Overall, the service is typically wonderful, although dinner service was very slow.

Ship Quality

The ship was well maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

We like to be "forward" on ships - this was the last "forward" cabin.

Ship Tip

As You Wish Dining is the way to go if you enjoy meeting other people.

The Cocoa Factory was interesting. The remainder of the island not so much so.

Fun to walk around and enjoy Margaritaville's pool or the beach.

I loved touring the fort. Other than that, San Juan is dirty and seems a little sketchy.

Very commercial. We took a private taxi tour and enjoyed it.
