Navigator of the Seas by LorindaLyons

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This is the third cruise that I have taken, but the first for my husband.  Even though this was his first cruise, he did notice the poor selection of food and the quality of the food.

My thought is that all ships should have a first time cruiser or a long lost cruiser seminar.  This will inform those of us that enjoy doing all that can be done, to know what is available on the ship and the location.  I'm sure that I missed events happening on the ship.

We did enjoy some of the performances that were available to see.  I would have like more.  For the money that we paid for the cruise, there should have been more variety all around.

Great cruise.... by mattgc

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Favorites: Movies on the pool side screen at night.  Food was great.  Room was nice.

Cons:  Free food is not available at all times during the day....  The Windjammer Cafe (buffet) has closing times and closes around 9 pm.  After that it's only room service or the shops on the Promenade.  The shops on the Promenade charge extra.

It is a great ship!  Everything seemed clean.

Mis- leading description of excursion. by DebraWilczewsk

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My husband and I booked an excursion from the desk on the ship to do the Dolphin Encounter with lunch and beach break in Cozumel on January 18, 2017.  We went   into the water and we stood on a metal grate that had algae on the bottom of the grate and up along a fence where we stood.  Later that day and the next day I started getting a rash on my feet, legs and my back due to this fungus.   On the shore excursion sheets that was delivered to our room for 3 nights said the same thing for excursion which read Kiss, Swim and get pushed & pulled across the water.  We did not get that.  Just a kiss.  It was very boring and this was on my bucket list.   Next day we went to the desk and was told that it was a mis print but the excursion sheets that were sent to our room for 3 days had exactly the same for 3 days no changes.   We got money off but that was not what we wanted we wanted to swim, and get pushed and pulled with them.  Was very disappointed that we did not get what we originally paid for.  Also on the boat there was not a lot of entertainment during the day by the pool.  No music playing or activity by the pool all day.  Just 1 1/2 hours of music and an activity.   Boring......  The entertainment at night was something that I could have seen at a club back home.   We have had more fun on other cruises that had more exciting activities and entertainment.  I will think twice about cruising with your cruise line.

Retired and Still Going by pastor4sda

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Staff was helpful, food was reasonable, except the scrambled eggs on the Buffet. They were second rate, like plastic.

Not much of an itinerary, and the evening theater shows were average, or less than average for a few. Dance show was quite nice.

For the price, I would go again.

The whole Ship Attractions are great! We enjoy almost everyone of them! The only thing is the shore excursions which are a little expensive in comparison with the locals offers.

Wonderful and unforgettable experience January 2017 by mriascos12

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Fantastic ship for couples and families.  The attention is amazing because you had hire high qualified personal to provide many services such us amazing quality of food in the buffet and restaurants, various shows, housekeeping, gym and dance clases and shore excursiones.  Great entertainment and Activities.

The company offer many amenities to keep us very busy. Offer many activities than you can possibly do in five days.

The food was great and fantastic !!! everything was neat, delicious and the food was fresh and exquisite.

My recomendation is to make the announcement in Spanish so erderly people can understand what the captain is saying ove the speaker.

I already recommended the Navigator of the Seas to my coworkers and friends.  Many of them talk about the quality of food and my answer was that the food is fantastic and very high quality of food.  J

Wonderful Ship by tdm5ef

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My husband and I just got back from a 5 night western Caribbean cruise on Navigator of the Seas.  This was our second cruise with Royal Caribbean and we can honestly say- we love cruising!  Navigator is a great value- the food was wonderful (definitely try Chops!) and the shows were a highlight of the trip.  We loved Cozumel, but was not impressed by Nassau.  Overall, the ship, the food and most importantly- the staff onboard were top notch.

Great first cruise! by elissa56905123

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Being first time cruisers we didn't quite know what to expect so plied our friends and relatives with thousands of questions before we left. And it was better than they described! We loved Navigator of the Seas and the 5 day length was perfect. Although the bus tour of Nassau was interesting, the cooking class on a Cozumel beach with an open bar and access to all sorts of water sports was superb. Luis was a terrific chef who led us step by step in making a gourmet meal for ourselves. It was delicious and I can't believe that a non-cook such as myself could do even the chocolate rosettes and dish garnish designs. We also did a Miami bus tour since our plane didn't leave until 12 hours after we docked. The hop-on-hop-off bus tour stored our luggage and took us to the airport-- all for one price.

The advice we are glad we followed was not to get a drink package but to bring a case of bottled water onboard. We don't drink much alcohol so buying it per the drink was okay. The onboard entertainment was terrific too. I laughed so hard with the comedian that I was crying! There was a nice mix of people on board from young to old, from families to class reunions, and even a wedding party. Everyone was friendly and it was fun to learn about their experiences.

Enjoyed it! by wood4853149

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Loved this cruise. The ports, the food, and Chops is amazing !!!!!! I would urge RCI to label foods that have nuts in them. Twice I got ahold of a bread item that had nuts, and I am allergic. Ice show was great, the comedians were good, and I left with 600 bucks profit from the blackjack tables !

Love the stops and some things could be improved by carolynbarcus

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Coco Cay was a fabulous stop!!! Onboard live entertainment was adequate... Enjoyed the ice show. Very busy and hard to find a seat in the Windjammer. The hot tubs were overflowing with people and in the evening they close them down, which is the time you want to go in. Dining room in the "My Time" dining was chaotic and we didn't go after the first night. Very clean and well maintained. Decided to try the "virtual" balcony - pleasantly surprised! It was much better than a room with just a port hole!

This is my first time cruising with Royal Caribbean and I was very impressed, It was way better than my last cruise which was on another cruise line.

The ship was a lot better and bigger. I'm always in awe of cruise workers excellent service, that really never fails to surprise me. But I loved loved the activities and events going on in the ship, so many to choose from! Will definitely cruise with Royal Caribbean again and recommend it to everyone I know!

Top Notch Cruise with Good Service at a fair price by adamhbethon

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

I would highly recommend the Royal Carribean, Navigator of the Seas cruise.  As a couple, we purchased on of the cheaper interior rooms on board but never felt lower class.  We were treated fairly and appropriately at all times.  Whenever we needed assistance, multiple people employed on board were happy to help.  The ship was very beautiful and with the price we paid, we can't say anything that was given to us was too little.

The only complaint I had was with the excursions.  Prior to boarding we went on the RC website and looked at prices and there were some that were too expensive for us (specifically swimming with dolphins).  This excursion was listed at $250 a person.  However, when we got on the ship, it was priced at $150 and we had already booked a third party excursion for that day.  Had we known the price would have dropped that much, we would have happily gone through RC. I would ask them in the future to give the discounts to the early buyers, rather than the ones who buy on board.

What a fabulous way to spend Christmas and welcome in the New Year 2017 by jreyno5842

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

We spent Christmas and New Year's celebrating on the Navigator of the Seas.  Typically these holidays are not covered on 1 cruise, but the weekend holidays this year made it possible.  It was so festive with tons of activities for the whole family.  The ship was decorated beautifully with the right amount of spirit and fun given to Christmas, Chanukah and New Years.  The New Years Eve celebration was like being in Times Square.  Awesome.  And what could beat starting off January 1 on the beach.

If there was one thing that could have been improved it would be the food quality in the main dining room on Christmas.  They really did not bring out the steak and lobster until New Years.  For the price of the cruise, I would have expected some better choices, especially on formal nights.  Also the chefs need to improve their fish cooking skills.  Almost every fish was overcooked and dry.  I will say they did a nice job on the soups, especially the lobster bisque.

In case you are wondering, you can find some very nice wines for $12/glass.  Some even better ones for $15/glass.  If you get the Ultimate Beverage Package, it covers drinks up to $12/glass.  I would suggest it highly for a cruise like this one where there is lots of celebrating.  It even covered our Starbucks drinks.

We did not try any speciality restaurants as they are expensive and too much food.  Delicious, but too much for us.  Maybe if you have a large group.  We did go to Johnny Rockets for lunch one day which was super good and so filling we skipped dinner.  That was only $6.95 for the works so quite the deal.

Excursions were quite varied and should cover any interest. We did a walking tour in St. John's Antique and a tour, beach and lunch trip on Bonaire.  Both were nice.  We were really lucky as this was only the 2nd time the ship had been to Bonaire and the first time at St. John's.  Not great shopping, but culturally less impacted by all the tourists so interesting.

If you are into Art, there were several Art Auctions on boards with champagne flowing.  We are and loved them.

All in all, we had a wonderful time and highly recommend a trip like this for couples or families. RC really knows how to take care of their guests.

Amazing Diamond Lounge, but a Terrible Cruise by jmikhail

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I have been on many, many cruises, none of which were this terrible. My wife and I are diamond members through Royal Caribbean. When you have cruised as much as we have, there becomes this unsaid expectation of what a cruise should be. I have never had a bad experience on Royal Caribbean and assumed that this trip would be no different.

One of the worst parts of our cruise was our stateroom attendant. She was incredibly rude from the start. She did not introduce herself till the middle of the muster drill (while we were leaving to go to our station). All week my wife and I were having issues with her. There were never enough towels. I'd find her in the hallway, ask for more towels, and not receive them for hours after my shower. She would give us the wrong cruise compasses during the week, so anytime we wanted to know what was going on we would have to go down to guest services to find out what happened. She was incredibly loud. My wife and I work very hard during the week and our vacation time is quiet valuable. She would start cackling and going on at 7am, and would wake our entire area of deck 6 up. It was miserable. On more than one occasion I would catch her complaining about how much she hated her job and how terrible it was to clean these rooms. She would complain about passengers and how messy their rooms were from the night before. What truly was the worst, was when she would constantly talk about partying after her shift was up and the detailed comments she would make about her explorations. I don't need to know that and she should be holding some sort of professionalism. She was the worst stateroom attendant I've ever had.

Our room attendant was bad, however, our dining experience was just as bad. Normally, the dining room is our place to enjoy ourselves throughout the evening with a bottle of wine, good food, and good conversation. Not this time. Our service was unique to say the least. Multiple times, even though we would arrive on time or early, we would be getting our appetizers while the rest of the people around us were finishing dessert. Our waiter never explained the menu to us, never greeted us, and never explained what the dress code was for each night. Finally, my wife and I just gave up and went and ate at other restaurants around the ship.

To top everything off, our final night on the ship I was washing my hands in the bathroom. I hear our neighbors in a stateroom next to us flush their toilet. All of a sudden my feet are soaking wet in a filthy, smelly substance that is about 3 inches high. I run to call custodial staff to tell them there was a leak of some sort. They said they would be there shortly. That was at midnight. I called a second time to notify them that the water was rising...no one came. Finally, around 12:45 someone showed up. When they showed up they were eating pizza. Yes, I said it, pizza. So they had to finish their pizza before they could clean our room. By the time they got out of there it was 2am.

Finally, the deportation process. I was given the number 12. I had transportation through the cruise company to get me to the airport. I thought to myself, "I've never had an issue with this process! This part will be easy." Wrong again. The day before I had gone and asked guest services twice if my number was right. They explained that there was no problem and I would be fine in making my flight. The next morning, I knew something was wrong. I went up and asked a worker about my number, showing her the receipt to my transportation. She explained that I should have been number 2, not number 12. I had to argue with her to get off of the ship because we would miss our flight, and she rudely told me that we would be standing in the ship terminal waiting on our luggage. Luckily, because we were suppose to be on the early group leaving the ship, our luggage was available for pickup right outside the terminal. We were able to make our flight with no problem.

The only saving grace of this cruise was the diamond lounge group. These people are the hardest working people on the ship that are available for me at any time. They were helpful, pleasant, and made what was left of our cruise wonderful! I'm very thankful for them and their hard work.

Be advised if you gone on this cruise ship: you will run into people that don't care. It is what it is. Because of our status with Royal Caribbean, we won't be going anywhere, but man oh man, I'd like my money back on this one.

Worst RC cruise we've ever been on by cruiserjoan

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: North America

I'm hardly certain where to start...with the food, I guess, which is usually a highlight of a cruise experience. It was terrible--at the breakfast/lunch buffets, the nightly dinner seatings, and the specialty restaurant we went to (Giovanni's)--both in regard to the offerings and the quality. And the portion size--the tortellini main course consisted of FOUR tortellini. There was no steak offering unless you wanted to pay a significant upgrade fee (more than a whole steak dinner at a regular restaurant). Water refills were infrequent and at no point was I offered a glass of wine with dinner--I had to hunt down the wine steward each night to request one.

There was at least one less public restaurant on board this ship than on the other four we've been on, so breakfast/lunch was a madhouse--if you could find anything edible. Even the french fries were consistently horrifically inedible. The only food option after 9pm was room service, which consistently took 1.5 hours to arrive and was nearly inedible.

I discussed the food situation with other guests and with the staff, and they all agreed. One staff member told me to never take an RC cruise out of Miami because they're the worst ones...but that's where they're headquartered, which seems odd.

Service in general was spread thin--across the restaurants, staterooms, and other areas--and nothing like we have had before.

The stateroom itself was dirty when we got there (lip prints on the mirror) and stayed that way. The beds were uncomfortable. The balcony was even smaller than usual and barely the depth of a chair.

The entertainment was okay-ish, other than the ice show, which was VERY well done and definitely of the quality I expect on a spendy cruise.

If this were my only RC cruise I would likely never cruise with them again. As it is...I've invested quite a bit to get to Platinum status and am not really sure where to go now.
