Review summary

MSC value is good. Staff was great. Food was decent. Like any cruise line, you can get nickel and dimed to death, but that's your choice.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
Embarkation was organized and faster with Fast track, since we provided all the required information prior to check-in.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
If you cruise in the general population, the buffet experience is chaotic at times and seating can be challenging. It seems like this ship has the same buffet and restaurant space, with 1/3 more passenger capacity. Some people cut in line and use their hands to grab food while holding their used plates. The restaurants were slow on service and the food often came lukewarm.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Nice gym, pool areas and theater, but, again, it seemed the amenity spaces are the same on the smaller ships and there are many more people on this one. People frequently "claim" lounge chairs with towels early in the morning and hardly use them. The theater shows were good. We aren't the type to run down and play bingo, toss bean bags, or do the dance thing at the pool, but a lot of people love that stuff.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
It isn't Las Vegas, so what can one expect. There were a few singers, a violin bit and the inhouse dancing crew. Decent.

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
They had a lot of activities for the kids, like bowling, video games and the like, but most came at a steep price.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff came from all over the world, worked hard and were very nice and interesting people.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
It is a typical MSC ship with a few specialty restaurants, over the top lighting and decor, costly boutique shops, a couple of pools and jacuzzis. The crew really kept the ship...well...ship shape.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Well laid out, small, comfortable bed, noisy at times. Our cabin steward was great.

Ship tip

If you have the funds, stay away from general population and upgrade to the Yacht Club.

Ports of call

Southampton (London), England

3 out of 5
Not much there, but a nice starting off point.

Le Havre (Paris), France

2 out of 5
Not much to see or do, unless you take an excursion someplace else.

Ponta Delgada, Azores

4 out of 5
Very scenic. Nice shops and architecture.

Tortola, British Virgin Islands

3 out of 5
Not much around the port.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

3 out of 5
Some interesting stuff to do. Nice people there.

St. John's, Antigua

3 out of 5
Nice spot.

Fort-De-France, Martinique

3 out of 5

Pointe-A-Pitre, Guadeloupe

3 out of 5

Castries, St. Lucia

3 out of 5
Nothing to write home about, but OK

Bridgetown, Barbados

3 out of 5
Beaches, beaches and more beaches, Expensive.

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
OK. Smooth. Nothing special. No brass bands, or anything.

General population? YOU are the General population that you want people to stay away from.
