Mediterranean Cruise by Musician

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: MSC Meraviglia / Destination: Europe

A big and new ship doesn't mean good service unfortunately. It's better to invest in good service for the customer instead of building huge ships with terrible service, unfriendly personnel and monotone food.

Recently returned from New Year... by shazship

Ship: MSC Meraviglia

Recently returned from New Year Cruise. Amazing ship but .... food in speciality restaurants excellent. Only went to Panorama Dining room once and was disappointed with food portions like starters, so didn’t go back. Cirque de Soleil was amazing so a must do.

Lost In Translation by wt459

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: MSC Meraviglia / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

While we were pleasantly surprised with our dining experience and some special superstars within the staff, by the end of our cruise we did not feel that this cruise was superior to the ones offered on other lines. Our suite was the biggest disappointment with all of the troubles with the jacuzzi and sewage backflow which was unexpected on a newer ship and upgraded cabin. Overall, we felt that MSC was trying to cram as many people as it could onto a large ship to maximize profits. Many of the activities on board are scheduled while the ship is docked and excursions underway. Rushing the staff during dinner in order to catch an evening show ruined the dining experience, and if the show is sub-par, is a crummy way to end the day. The excursion choices at each port need to be expanded and improved. We saw a lot more unique places on foot that were not available in any of the packages.

It has not responded to my expectations. by Gulliver56

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: MSC Meraviglia / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

With 15 cruises under my belt, I think I have formed a sufficient opinion to know that I like it and not a cruise. It's the third time I'm sailing with MSC Cruises. MSC Fantasia in 2011, MSC Preziosa in 2013 and this one that concerns us in 2017 in MSC Meraviglia. The ship is beautiful. It has the characteristic elegance of MSC Cruises ships. However, there are some aspects that I do not quite understand where so many millions of dollars have been spent. However I do not explain how with so much space per cabin they dedicate only 90 cm x 90 cm approximately to the toilet access dispenser where it is not possible to keep one door open without disturbing the other.  In the same way, the MSC Áurea Spa, with about 1,100 m2, dedicates a Pool of bubbles of just 5 m x 3 m approximately and a depth of 50 centimeters !. It is impossible to extend the legs if another passenger comes in front. Disappointing.

OMG!!! Where do I start?... by Paul162

Sail date: /
Ship: MSC Meraviglia

OMG!!! Where do I start? If you are thinking of going on this ship then don’t! The service is appalling. The food is terrible. No one on reception is interested in anything you want to say. I stayed in a suite for the first time and I came back from Barcelona to find my cabin jacuzzi emptied with a sign on saying wet paint! They didn’t even have the courtesy to let us know before. I could go on forever about all the negative points but I’d be here all week! I will never use MSC again! Fact!

Nice Ship! Great Ports! Many Problems Need to Be Worked Out! by kgt12us

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: MSC Meraviglia / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

All-in-all, we had a great time. Not perfect and could have been a lot better. Bad: MSC App and internet. Never worked, but I was charged a pretty heft sum for a few days. The APP never worked with personal agenda and did not even come up unless you were connected to the internet which rarely worked. I asked for refun and was never told if I would be refunded. The Good: the ship, room (except for no outlets at bed), the ports were amazing. BAD: Rude people everywhere - be prepared to push your way through when gettign of an elevator or in line at the market place buffet.

Sailed on MSC meraviglia in... by natox7

Sail date: /
Ship: MSC Meraviglia

Sailed on MSC meraviglia in Oct 2017. This was our first cruise and was hands down the best holiday me and my family have ever been on. I really cannot understand the one star reviews. So please if you have booked don’t worry! From boarding we were treated like royalty the staff are 5 star. Our waiter in the restaurant was called Marvin and he was the best, he couldn’t do enough for us. We have even stayed in touch. The bars and restaurants serve delicious food, the bar drinks menu is excellent, all top branded spirits used in the cocktails with a great selection, also heineken in a bottle if you choose the ALL INC drinks package. The ship is beautiful, lovely shops, great choice of bars. The MSC for me app is great to download as you can look what is on and book straight through that rather than going to the theatre, see the route and look at information at the ports she docks at. Pool is great for the kids with the slides and rope bridges. Also lots of arcade games , bowling etc (at an extra cost) 5 star experience.

Mind Blowing New Technology on a Ship by stevieba

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: MSC Meraviglia / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

Totally Amazing Cruise Ship. But be prepared there are a lot of people onboard. We paid for the Yacht Club Experience which was all totally fabulous, but the fare is obviously much much higher than normal outside cabins. The ship being fairly new is immaculate. Entertainment is amazing - this is a Party Ship. Just be warned - if you think you are going to find a quiet spot on the deck to rest, it won't happen. It's Party Party Party on this ship and too many people if you want a quiet relaxing cruise. But go for the party - only problem we had, when we arrived home we were exhausted and felt we needed a holiday to get over this amazing cruise. Not the Best Food in the world on cruise ships and our tip is Forget the main buffet, that was the only bad experience, it was like feeding time at the zoo !

Beautiful new boat, with terrible food quality and verity, overcrowded - try to avoid ! by guybar

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: MSC Meraviglia / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

When we booked the cruise (family of 2 adults and 2 Young kids) there were no reviews, since it was a brand-new ship. A month before our trip we read reviews from all over the web and we got concerned. The following is our point of view all though we came with very low expectation: The good: It is a new ship which most of the ship is beautiful and clean ! Security is good and firm. Some of the shows were lovely. There are two shops that needed to pay (chocolate and ice cream) that were excellent. Restaurants the service was good. The bad: Food- is horrible !!!!!! all restaurants have poor base ingredients, when we complained we noticed that no one really cared, so we only eaten salads and pizza at the buffet restaurant. Service was not good when we needed any type of service from reception including not answering to the phone, it seems they are totally apathetic to their customers. There is no public children playground and the only playground they have is a place that they allowed no parents to stay so you need to leave the children with their own staff. (and even that place was not adequate for such big ship) Overcrowded !!! the entire ship in all public places including restaurants, pools, bars, main avenue is so overcrowded that it gave us a poor experience. It seems that MSC is trying to squeeze money in every different way from their captive market costumers. In total please try to avoid MSC, by doing that may by they will start respecting their customers. Thank you,

DON'T DO IT!!! by ATLcruisers

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: MSC Meraviglia / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

If you are American, have cruised before, and are considering MSC... DON'T DO IT!!! We had read the bad reviews but decided to give it a try thinking it couldn't be THAT bad. It was. The Meraviglia is new and spotless. So there's that. The food was AWFUL! EW, just thinking about it turns my stomach. AND...the buffet was the same food... EVERY DAY. If you have cruised Holland America, Celebrity or Royal Caribbean you will be EXTREMELY disappointed. There was not enough space at the buffet lines so most times it was 5 - 6 people deep with no seating in the restaurant. We had to laugh at the FEEDING FRENZY and tried to stay away. People were pushing and shoving as they filled their plates with the same disgusting food every day. You would have sworn it was the last meal ever to be served due to the intense nature at feeding time. We reserved a suite and based on MSCs website we thought we could at least avoid the morning feeding by ordering room service. Room service is available, but there is no hot food (continental breakfast only and cold sandwiches during the day). We ended up eating on shore most days. We also booked the Tryptic dining experience. The Butcher's Cut was marginal (that was the best of the three specialty restaurants). But, you are only offered a very limited menu and have to pay extra if you order anything different. The food at Eately was unpalatable - it still makes me queezy to think about it. The sushi restaurant was equivalent to the sushi you can buy at your local Publix or Kroger. The clientele on the ship were low rent (worse than Carnival) - I watched a woman lift a baby out of a full hot tub and change it's dirty (feces) diaper on the side of the tub, then put the baby back in the tub. She threw the dirty diaper on the deck below. So many rude people... who pushed their way in front of us for the simplest reasons...and treated the crew like dirt. We were stunned at the absurdity. Our cabin was a suite with a hot tub on the deck. It would have been amazing had there not been a 4 inch brown ring around the top from the previous guests filth. We called our cabin steward and he said they didn't use any chemicals or clean the private hot tubs, they simply drained the tub 1/2 way and refilled it for the next guest. Since the tub didn't heat above 35 C (95 F) it was completely unsanitary and therefore unusable. Our wristbands (for cabin purchases) still showed the previous guests for the entire time we were on the ship and we received a notice daily that there were issues with our credit card. We had to go stand in line at customer service 5 times (for ~45 minutes each time) to provide the exact same credit card, which they used to close our account and then reopen it - each time telling us it 'cleared' the problem. It didn't. There were 5,500 guests and only ~1,700 crew who were overworked and not happy. We asked a bartender how his day was going and he flat out said his day was 'crappy' and he 'hated this place'. We did meet a lovely girl from the Philippines (Delilah) - it was her third week on the ship. She said she liked us because we were nice to her. We asked if other people were not nice and she started to cry. It was heartbreaking. We ended up getting off the ship early, changing our return flight and hanging out in Barcelona for a few days. We had street food that was better than any meal on the ship, enjoyed amazing music and atmosphere (even in a city that just experienced horrible terror), and felt immediate relief to be off of that floating Walmart/Motel 6. Save your money. Do ANYTHING else.

The ship was beautiful, pool... by vittoriovek

Sail date: /
Ship: MSC Meraviglia

The ship was beautiful, pool were very nice and there was many really good theme restaurants like teppayaki, sushi, eataly butcher etc. Cabin was really nice ( the best of all the cruise I did ) The staff was really kind and the spa was beautiful ! The "Galleria Meraviglia" was a gallery like the "Royal Promenade" of Royal Carribbean ,that was beautiful, like a floating city. Embarking was great. I had aurea&welness package and that was great cause I had many free drink and free entry to the spa, free massage and a private solarium "top 19". Entertainment was great and there was awesome parties ! My family and I had a great time !

just come back from MSC... by Cazza2001

Sail date: /
Ship: MSC Meraviglia

just come back from MSC Meraglivia, the ship is beautiful, plenty to do for the kids in the club, good selection of pools, especially the pool at the back if the ship that is much quieter. Our cabin was lovely, clean and roomy. Food was excellent, service a littlevgvgvg slow at busy times but we were not in any rush. Staff at only to happy to help, not all speak English which may come across as ignorant to some looking at previous comments. Very family friendly ship. Just beware of hidden costs, charges to get from the ship to Marseille was @€15.90 per person, not including any excursion, and was too far to walk. They also charged us automatically for photos taken of when we boarded the ship, the photos where put in our cabin, which we thought was a complementary, but they are €30! check your final bill and they will credit them off if you ask. Cirque du Soleil is extra which we did not know, €15 each, but was worth it. Themes for dinner dress where white night, Mediterranean night, casual night and formal. We had an amazing time would highly recommend.
