MSC Lirica

7 Night Eastern Mediterranean (Venice Roundtrip)

Sail date: September 13, 2019

Ship: MSC Lirica

Traveled as: Singles/Friends

Review summary

We did enjoy our holiday on Lirica, but totally spoilt by the lack of sleep. Unfortunately nobody seemed to take the complaint seriously. I travelled with mum, who was 75 and to have barely any sleep all week, just ruined our trip.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We went from Venice, all very easy no problem and had a boarding time of 12.45, but actually got on midday, so quick and easy.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food and drinks very good. All of our meals were hot, not warm. Main Dining was a pleasure, staff friendly and eager to please. Buffet were chaos as always, lots of the usual pushing and shoving. Drinks are always good on MSC, unfortunately lack of staff meant you had to wait a fair time for drinks.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Cant say theres loads to do. But the staff work hard, and are always trying to please.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Theatre shows were excellent on night one, then as the week progressed, they became very similar. The Band that played in one bar were very good, got everyone up dancing so a nice atmosphere

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Excellent staff, although extremely short staffed at times. They all work very hard, and majority are so friendly and helpful. Main Dining room staff are excellent, work so hard to please. Room stewards are kind, considerate and again eager to please. Only the coffee shop bar, staff came across a little rude, where they couldn't keep up, and obviously short staffed at times.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship is nice, not too many bars open at times, which did seem unusual compared to previous MSC cruises we have done. Waiting staff are over run too. Felt sorry for them. Do avoid cabin 10173. We didn't sleep for well for the whole week. We complained about the pots and pans crashing about from midnight till 3am every night. But due to full ship, nothing could be done(so we were told) I even recorded the noise. Not good enough when paying £900 So do check your cabin number. Worst cruise for noise all night. Compensation was canapes and prosecco, not needed when you get it on drinks package and food on tap!! Sleep is all we disliked about holiday, lack of!

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
This has to be the noisiest cabin ever, underneath the washing up of pots n pans every night midnight till the 3am. Then starts again 6.30am.10173 avoid!!

Ship tip

Check cabin location, avoid back of ship 10th floor. Sheer hell.

Ports of call

Venice, Italy

4 out of 5
Busy place, but stunning, save your energy for Venice. You'll need it

Chania, Crete

5 out of 5
Really liked Chania, it's a big place, again would like to spend longer here.

Santorini, Greece

4 out of 5
Santorini is a lovely stop, but do allow plenty of queuing time for cable car trips. We waited an hour to come down, in the baking hot sun. Tip, book the boat trip as you get off Tender boat, takes you to Oia, no cable car needed!!

Split, Croatia

Argostoli, Kefalonia, Greece

5 out of 5
Beautiful place, would like to return.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
You always get chucked off early, but that's pretty standard. Venice is quite a lengthy walk to the people mover, which is a over head monorail, so if you're elderly or struggle with suitcases, plan a taxi transfer from port. Much easier.
