The Cruise Test by CherylR9

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Mariner of the Seas / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

We have always traveled on the Holland America cruiseline; however, I wanted to see how "other" cruiselines rated in comparison to HA. Well, I will tell you the Mariner of the Seas is an absolutely beautiful ship and there is not one thing I can say I did not like or had trouble with. The rooms, although smaller in size, were well designed and we had no trouble in them. The food was very good and the staff was excellent. I have to say I really thought I probably would be disappointed about some things on a different line from what I was accustomed to, but I'm happy to say I would travel Royal Car. again in a minute.

Fantastic Cruise by SurgeP

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Mariner of the Seas / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

The ship was beautiful, a wonderful experience. They treat you like royalty once on board. They only problem I had was with the other people on board. Some of them were rich snobs that thought they were so great. I was told cruises are for fun, people people, etc. Some of these people were just rude and anti-social. I was not expecting that, but what can you do? a lot of them did not want to dance, participate in activities, etc. They all just sat there, I wondered, what is wrong with them? Ow well, I had a lot of fun, danced, ate, swam, exercised, and ate some more. It was a wonderful experience.

Wonderful Ship by Tomb111

Sail date: / Traveled as:
Ship: Mariner of the Seas / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

Embarking and Debarking was very easy. The ship was wonderful. All of the staff were very helpful and friendly, the Captain and Cruise Director were the best we have ever had on a cruise. Food and presentation were very good. The theatre production was good, but the ice show was definately Las Vegas quality. Very Impressive. Didn't care much for either comedian. Juggler was good. Loved the nothern itinerary for a change.

Well Organized Cruise by LindaW3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Mariner of the Seas / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

When you see the size of this ship it will take your breath away! I have cruised eleven times and this ship is the largest ship I have been on. For the amount of people which was upwards of three thousand people I was amazed how well they serviced everyone. However, this ship lacks in a personal feeling that one gets with a smaller ship. I don't think I ever saw the same people twice. If that doesn't bother you, than this is a great ship for you. I think the design caters to a party crowd. The center promonade reminded me of main street at Disneyland. There was lots of things which would appeal to the younger set such as minature golf, ice skating, rock climbing, inline skating, and basketball to name a few. And these are all at no extra charge. Food was excellent in the dining room. Staff were always pleasant and helpful. The ship was very well maintained and clean at all times.

Not so Memorable Cruise by RolandA1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Mariner of the Seas / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

Cruising on RCCL has really changed (for the worse) over the past few years. They now want to charge you for everything they can. If you want the better quality steak in the dinning room than it is an upcharge of $15. There use to be items such as midnight buffets that made cruises memorable and enjoyable - no more, no mint on your pillow at night - basically nickle and diming you, just like the airlines. This cruise experience was not like a 5 star resort but a Motel 6 stay. Sorry RCCL but it may be a long time before you see this family again.

my favorite one by Regina

Sail date: /
Ship: Mariner of the Seas / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

We found out about the cruise on the Royal Caribbean Mariner of the Seas about two weeks before boarding. I can honestly say that this was my least expensive cruise ,and my favorite one. We left on Sunday, May 24th from Los Angeles, went to San Francisco, Vancover, B.C. and Seattle, Washington and were at sea for two days. All of the ports were fun, and since we have been to these places several times, we arranged our own activities. Usually we take a cruise sponsored tour, but it was easy to walk right off at all of the ports and do our own thing. There was never a dull moment for us on the Royal Caribbean, which is an amazing ship w/many attractions for everybody young and old. On the days that we were at sea, I got up early had breakfast at the Windjammer buffet and then walked around the track to wear off all of the delicious food that we could not stay away from. Also, I went to the gym and used the steam room and would meet my husband afterwards. He enjoyed many presentations and shows such as "The Newlywed and Not So Newlywed Game". We usually had lunch in the dining room where we had the chance to meet interesting people daily. We also hung out at Seattle's Best Coffee Shop on the Promanade Deck. There was not enough time to do everything we would have liked to do such as golf, rock climbing, etc.The staff was wonderful especially those in the dining room. The food was also wonderful and we are probably losing weight now as we have to deal w/my cooking. We loved the shows especially the Ice Skating Show. The only suggestion I have for the Royal Caribbean is to have laundry facilities so that guests can do their own laundry. Everything else was "over the top" I have told all of my friends about this "last minute" cruise that was diverted from Mexico to the Northwest.

Superb Vacation by JohnO14

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Mariner of the Seas / Destination: Mexico

The Mariner of the Seas was the largest Cruise ship that my wife and I have sailed. The cleanliness, attention to detail from the Jose, the Stateroom Attendant, to Ricardo, our waiter and the rest of the staff was what we expect from Royal Caribbean and the reason we choose to cruise with this line. The food was great and plentiful as well as access to two specialty restaurants, Portofino's and Chops Steak House. We took advantage of both of these restaurants and will recommend them to everyone. We splurged and got a Junior Suite located on the stern, with balcony. WOW!! This was our 8th cruise and were NOT disappointed.

Unable to make decission when posed with a major problem. This decission I think effected the crew and staff of the ship. The services were slow and the food was not good.

Royal Caribbean Mariner of the Seas by JebJ

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Mariner of the Seas / Destination: Mexico

Great ship, gorgeous interior, well kept up, lots of activities for the guests. However, it felt very crowded much of the time. Bars were full, shopping areas were full, Service by cabin attendants was slow. The cabin attendants were over worked or over extended. The rooms were left untouched if your schedule and their schedule conflicted. The food service is declining as the cruise line cuts costs. The speciality restaurants were excellent. However, the day to day main fare in the dining room and Wind Jammer Lounge was nothing to brag about. Plenty of food was available but the quality is going down hill.

Can you say Swine Flu??? by MelanieD

Sail date: /
Ship: Mariner of the Seas / Destination: Mexico

This was supposed to be our best vacation ever. It was our honeymoon!! We had bought shore excursions for Cabo San Lucas and Mazatlan and I had set up a "vow renewal" ceremony with a reverend in Puerto Vallarta. Since we got married in the states so that our family could be there, and we really originally wanted to get married on the beach, this was going to be a surprise for my husband. Well, the first day at sea was awesome. The food was good, the drinks were being poured, the sun was out... It was exactly what you expect for an 8 day 7 night cruise to the Mexican Riviera. The next day we arrive in Cabo and go to our shore excursion which was the Baja ATV excursion where we ride 4 wheelers for a few hours in the desert and along the coastline. It was absolutely gorgeous and left us completely satisfied! HOWEVER, when we were all back on the ship that evening, we were told by the captain over the loud speaker that Royal Caribbean has chosen to cancel the rest of our ports of call due to the swine flu concern. Most of us had heard nothing so far of the swine flu. THEN we find out that prior to embarkation, Royal Caribbean knew this was a possible concern and that we would probably be canceling our ports but decided to sail anyway and not say anything to any of its passengers. Ok, so we're not going to our other ports of call, we all need to cancel our excursions and try to get our money back, and now we're stuck on this ship for the rest of the week because they're not going to let us off. Wonderful. Then the captain comes back on and tells us that their main office in Miami has set us up to dock in San Francisco for Friday. Great... Not only are we stuck on the ship spending tons of money in the casino and bars because there's absolutely nothing to do during the day and they haven't added any daytime entertainment to make up for this inconvenience, we have to head north for San Francisco where it's 53 degrees and raining. No Mexico, no sun, no fun. I think the least they could have done was to give us the option to go back to Los Angeles (where we departed) and cut the trip short or Royal Caribbean could have given us a credit towards a future cruise so that we could at least enjoy what was supposed to be a romantic fun honeymoon cruise. I have been on a cruise before with Holland America where we had to miss a port of call due to a hurricane and I think they did a MUCH better job of improvising and creating fun things for everyone of all ages to do during the days we were at sea. I will cruise again but it will not be with Royal Caribbean.

WORST FIRST TIME EXPERIENCE by TerryC3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Mariner of the Seas / Destination: Mexico

HAD A FEW ISSUES WHILE ONBOARD SHIP AND GUEST SERVICES WOULD NOT TRY TO PLEASE US AT ALL. THIS WAS OUR FIRST CRUISE FOR MY COLLEGE GRADUATION GIFT, SAVED UP FOR IT FOR TWO YEARS. THE FIRST ISSUE WAS TRYING TO GET CHOCOLATE MILK, WHICH THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE TO ME, AND THE SECOND WAS LACK OF TICKETS TO EVENYS HELD ON SHIP. THE THIRD AND MOST IMPORTANT WERE THE BUGS THAT WERE ATTACKING US IN OUR STATEROOM!! WHEN WE WENT TO GUEST SERVICES- THEY COULD CARE LESS, DIDN'T HELP US AT ALL, WANTED US TO SEE THE SHIPS DOCTOR AT OUR EXPENSE (300.00 DOLLARS). I DON'T THINK SO! WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS SHIP TO ANYONE! THE DINING AND FOOD SELECTION IS EXTREMELY LIMITED AND IF YOU HAVE SECOND SITTING EVERTHING IS CLOSED (POOLS, HOT TUBS AND BUFFET) TO SNACK LATER. AND YOU WOULD MISS ANY SHOWS UNLESS YOU WANT TO GO AT 1AM. NOT A PLEASANT EXPERIENCE FOR US, WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!!

Beautiful Ship by AT380

Sail date: /
Ship: Mariner of the Seas / Destination: Mexico

We were on the Mariner of the Seas and it is a beautiful ship. The promanade area with the coffe shop and ice cream store was a nice feature. Our stateroom was roomy and comfortable. The beds were very comfortable to sleep in. Their was one show I was dissappointed in, but the rest were great, especially the live comedy. I would defineatly sail on this ship again.

A great cruise by RobertD2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Mariner of the Seas / Destination: Mexico

The ship was clean and fairly well maintained. It was hard to find a place to just set and relax where you could look out over the ocean. There was only a couple places like that and they were always full of people. The food and all the personnel were just great.

Great time. Great food and entertainment. Lack of activities for kids under 2, made it difficult for us to really relax. Boat was a bit overcrowded, sometimes felt like cattle.
