Review summary

The cruise was excellent. The food, entertainment, facilities, and naturalist talks were all top notch. The course of the ship along Alaska's inner passage was smooth and beautiful. Be aware that the wifi service is weak and plan accordingly. I plan on taking a cruise again in the future.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was smooth, especially considering I came by the land-tour train and many people embarked at the same time.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We ate at the Marketplace for most meals, but also ate at Concerto, Harmony, and Alfredo's. The food was excellent and there was a great variety of foods.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We used both pools, but mostly the Hollywood indoor pool. We also used the ping pong table. I was very glad that there was an indoor pool, as it was often to cold and windy to use the outdoor pool. My only complaint was that at times some kids dominated the pools and made it hard for others to enjoy it.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The shows in the Princess Theater were top notch. We also enjoyed the performers in the Hollywood room (Deck 17), Piazza Bar (Deck 5), and Vista room and Princess Live. We went to the Naturalist talks by Mark, and also the Ranger talk and Libby's talk. Very good programs.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
For the most part the service was excellent, but there were a few bartenders who seemed flustered with the lines and were a bit rude. The wait staff was very professional and service-oriented. Our room steward was great.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
I thought the ship design was good. I was amazed at how the restaurants and theaters all fit into the three decks 5, 6, and 7. I did think it was odd that the laundry room was so far at the back of the ship on every floor. It was quite a walk from our cabin in the front. Plus, the ship ran out of laundry detergent on Sunday morning. That is poor planning to not be fully stocked at the start of the cruise. Also, the medallion app did not work on the ship. We had to use the TV in the room to reserve a restaurant.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The cabin was okay. It served its purpose. It was tight, but I expected it to be. It was good to have a balcony, and bunk beds for my daughters. The mattresses were not that comfortable.

Ship tip

Bring your own laundry detergent.

Ports of call

Whittier (Anchorage), Alaska

3 out of 5
This was just for embarkation. Nothing there, but by the time the train dropped us off there wasn't time anyway.

Cruise Hubbard Glacier

5 out of 5
Views of the glacier were very good. The ship moved slowly enough for good pictures.

Cruise Glacier Bay

5 out of 5
We got to see whales and otters in addition to the glaciers. The ship went right to the glaciers for good views and pictures.

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

4 out of 5
Not much to do here, but we enjoyed visiting the little town of Hoonah.

Juneau, Alaska

5 out of 5
We went to the dog-mushing excursion. It was the highlight of the cruise for my daughters. Loved holding the puppies. Juneau's downtown was nice and quaint.

Ketchikan, Alaska

5 out of 5
We did the nature walk here, which was excellent. We saw eagles, salmon, and the raptor station. We were disappointed that we had to be back on the ship at 2:15.

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia

5 out of 5
We took the Stanley Park and with tour excursion. It was nice to have a last fun activity rather than just going straight to the airport.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
I was amazed at how efficiently everyone got off the ship and to their excursions or to the airport, especially since we had to go through Canadian customs.

Why would you want to do laundry at the start of a cruise?
