Beautiful country but food and loss of last two ports diminished the experience.

Review summary

The ship itself would only get 3 stars while the ports we were able to visit would get 5 stars. The food was not up to standard and while we loved our room, the small size of the balcony disappointed us. The biggest disappointment was missing the scenic cruising of the fjords. Also the tender service was poorly administered and wait time unacceptable.

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
Food was marginal. The breakfast buffet was good but lunch and dinner were fair to poor. It seemed that it was a deliberate choice to push you into the pay for dining in specialty restaurants. The quality of food in main dining room has declined over the years as the increase in pay for dining has occurred.

Alfredo's Pizzeria

Best food on the ship

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
We had 2 ports that required tender service to go ashore. We waited 1 1/2 hours in lounge before we could go ashore and 1 1/2 hours in a line to go back to the ship.

Tender Embarkation

1 out of 5

Waited 1 1/2 hours in lounge to go ashore and then waited in a line for 1 1/2 hours to get back to ship. Need to use more tenders to move 4500 passengers.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The entertainment was excellent but the princess theater was about 500 seats too small. To get a seat, you had to get there 45 minutes before the show. The house band Evolution that played in the piazza was outstanding.

Princess Theater

Too small for the number of passengers. Had to get there 45 minutes before shows to get a seat.

Children's Programs

No kids

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Waiters and room stewards were excellent.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Very clean but design not good. For a large ship with 4500 passengers, they haven’t figured out how to get that many people off the ship and back on. Especially in tender ports, the wait time was unacceptable.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
This was a mini suite and the size of the room was great with plenty of storage and large sitting area but the balcony was a joke. There were 2 chairs and a table but not enough room for 2 people to sit on the chairs. To recline the chair, you had to open the door wall. Very disappointed with balcony. Would not travel on this ship again.

Ship tip

Bring extra money to eat in specialty restaurant if you want good food.

Port Chalmers (Dunedin), New Zealand Did not visit port

The weather report caused us to miss this port.

Cruise Fjordland National Park Did not visit port

Because of weather forecast, we did not go here, which was an extreme disappointment. This was supposed to be the highlight of the cruise and instead we spent the last 3 days of the cruise on a slow boat to Sydney.
